We are part-time residents who, with our two dogs, spend much of the summer months in Waynesville. I cant recall how we first connected with the Animal Hospital of Waynesville but am thankful we did. Our dogs have been seen and treated by doctors Harrington, Yarkovich, and Bull and we are terribly impressed by their knowledge and their empathy for the patients owners (us), and for their love of the animals themselves. While I do not enjoy having to take one of our pets to the "Vet," I always leave feeling that I have received the best possible care available, and I (and my pet) are much better off for it. I will say, and this is based on my experiences with the Waynesville Animal Hospital, my Veterinarians back in South Carolina, the stories of family members and many friends, costs for veterinarian services are fast approaching those for humans. At some point, it will be too expensive for a responsible person to have a pet, and this will mean an increase in euthanasia of our animals, as well as an increase in mental health issues for humans, as it has been shown that pets can have a very positive impact on our development as responsible, caring persons. I have no answers. I feel my vet deserves as much compensation as my brain surgeon (and I do have one). I do not know what "extras" the Animal Hospital might provide, but I can suggest providing free neutering, etc. once a month - perhaps in cooperation with the local SPCA. Or providing an option on their invoices for clients to donate a few extra dollars to help those who otherwise would have difficulty providing their pet with the medical services he/she needs. Or, just put a jar on the counter for clients to leave tips to help others. Perhaps the Animal Hospital is doing these or similar things to help. Based upon the kindness and concern they show my dogs, I believe they are.

I searched for 2 years as my dog aged, trying to find the most compassionate and caring animal hospital. Believe me, many in the area were very rough with my elderly dog. I called to inquire about the services provided, hoping for in-home euthanasia when the time was right. Dr Harrington spent about 20 minutes with me on the phone speaking about my dog and what could be done to accomodate her...and I wasnt even a client yet. As a trial run I took one of my other dogs to him for a wellcheck. He found a couple masses that we schedule for immediate removal. As my older dog started to decline, he also helped me in her end of life decision making, ultimately came to my home as we had discussed and put her down peacefully in my arms in her home. I have since started taking all my dogs to Dr Harrington and he displays the same amount of genuine care and compassion for each. At the AHW they allow a long time for each patient visit. No, they are not the cheapest in town but you get what you pay for. They alot plenty of time for thorough exams, procedures and time with the pet and family. You will not be rushed in and out. The entire staff is very pleasant, they come out from the back to pet the dogs and say hi. They have great coffee while you wait :). I couldnt be happier with their service and highly recommend them. Update 8/18/15 Still very satisfied with the AHOW. Dr Harrison continues to be my vet and is always very attentive and thorough, devoting plenty of time and never making me feel rushed through. As a physician, I realize how hard this is to do when you have a full schedule. He is very intelligent and I have never had a problem with his surgeries on my growing fur family. Continue to be tickled I found a great hospital and vet.

I have a new rescue kitten, who immediately had several medical issues. I phoned and they got us in that day. I saw Dr Annalie First off, the wait was VERY long - something I hesitate to rate, based on one visit ( for all I know, someone brought in an animal that was hit by a car and they took him first?) I dont know the reason but there are times in a medical practise that waits are unavoidable. You might want to phone ahead and ask what a typical wait time is. As I had a tiny kitten, I wisely took a meal for him with me - came in very handy. The staff was terrific - gave us a llitter box and checked in periodically to let us know we werent fogotten. The examining room was roomy with good seating and magazines. There is a seperate entrance for cats. Dr. Annalie was very thorough. She asked a lot of questions and made observations that one would only make if they really knew cats. She was also gentle - something I always notice, having had an elderly, arthritic cat that a substitute vet handled roughly. She allayed some of my concerns and advised me on others, She gave him some things to boost his health and offset his lousy start in life. Out of all the vets Ive seen in my life ( which is a LOT), I would certainly put Dr Annalie in the top 10. If I had had more visits, or a more tenous case, I might give 5 stars - kind of tough to go by one visit. Bill was more than I expected, but we came home with a bag of meds and supplements. Their basic office charge is less than most vets. If you are on a strict budget, speak up and let them know what you can afford. These are not stuffy people nr do they strike me s judgemental.

I cannot say enough about the Animal Hospital of Waynesville - from the minute you walk through the door to the minute you walk back out you are greeted with warmth, and genuine sincerity. The team behind the front desk are always polite and good humored - answering questions, phones and multi-tasking, but all the while making sure you are been addressed and ALWAYS with a smile on their face and in their voice. Then you go into the clean rooms for the doctors visit, and are met with the technicians (I think that is the term). Again, they take the time to answer every question and listen to all concerns. Then we meet the doctors. All super friendly (we have met 3 to date) - I would not pick one over the other as they have all been FANTASTIC, so do not mind who we get assigned. They are knowledgeable, and spend as much time as needed with you - I have NEVER felt rushed or that I am not getting the full attention deserved, in fact I often felt embarrassed for been in the room so long. The entire staff ask after the other dog we have, if not there and I always feel like they remember me and my family (dogs included) and that makes all the difference having the personal touch. I am so happy we found them!

Just wanted to get my year-old puppys nails cut locally instead of going to her regular vet in Sylva. It was a new environment with new people, but I wasnt allowed to stay with her during the visit. While she was in the back, I paid the $13 for the nail trim, but a few minutes later, I was told my dog was too stressed and they couldnt cut all of her nails. They got 6 nails cut. My dog was shaking, panting and heart racing. I understand that they wanted a stress-free experience and they did try a few techniques. It was suggested that a sedative or a series of desensitization sessions might help, but I really think the easiest solution would have been to allow me to stay with her. I took her to our regular vet today and they were able to cut her nails without a problem or any stress to her because she was able to see me and hear my voice telling her it was ok. They also cut me a break on the cost since I had already paid $13 here... I appreciate the caring environment they were trying to provide, but it was just a frustrating experience.
