.I saw Dr. John Mearns briefly at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in the emergency room on August 3, 2016 at about 10:22 pm. I received an enormous bill from him for a short conversation. His bill alone is $1097.00 . He told me, "I will be back shortly and I see no reason to admit you" and will probably let me go back with my boys on our vacation, but when he didnt return when I asked for him, I was told by a nurse that he left at 11:00pm, the end of his shift! and that I was admitted. This bill is being contested! This is not the hospital bill, (the hospital was very good about cutting their bill by 3/4 for a veteran without insurance), this amount is just for his group. 15 minutes of his time, tops. $1097, lets get it down to nothing for such poor attention to patient care! He did not keep his promise to follow up with me before he left at 11:00 PM. I have called his office and requested that he call me and explain himself, but so far, no response. If I could post with no stars, I would, but thats not an option.

If you go in for an emergency, pay your bill, and wonder why collections has called for a bill you havent paid for - its because they do not inform you that there is a separate physicians bill. Even though I came in for only an IV bag and nurses who were very upset to help me, I got charged for "seeing the physician". No notification about this bill until it randomly shows up on my credit report. The woman Sandra who is supposed to take these collections hasnt answered her phone in over a month either. Thanks for no help and charging me years later for a bill I was never notified about. I see within these reviews this has been an ongoing problem for this place for years. Shame on you guys

Like all other reviews on this place, I wasnt aware that I owed $5 (yes $5!) until I got a letter from a collections agency. Ridiculous.
