On Monday March 6, 2012 I went to Chippenham emergency room and told the triage nurse I had broken my arm. It was obviously broken off my shoulder because of the way it moved. When she asked me to remove my sweater I told her I was in so much pain that I could not get it off, so she told me to take a seat. I was in terrible pain. After 45 minutes my husband spoke with another on staff and told her I needed to have something for pain, could they please take me on back. She said to him “This is the new healthcare and you may as well get used to it”. We waited while they took a number of little children with runny noses back that had been running around playing the whole time. I felt so bad for my husband because he couldn’t get anyone to listen. Another staff member said “You shouldn’t have come on a Monday. They party all weekend and bring the kids in on Monday”. After two hours we decided to go to another hospital, but I passed out before we could. This finally seemed to get their attention, they put me into a wheelchair and took me back. They did x-rays of my arm which showed the ball that fits into your should was pulverized. My shoulder was broken as well as the bone in my arm, which went through the rotor cup. The doctor was livid that they had let me sit in the waiting room so long. I had a heart attack a few years ago and my cardiologist told me whenever I went to an emergency room make sure I tell them about my heart. One of the staff flippantly said to my husband “You didn’t bring her here for her heart”, my cardiologist was infuriated that they never notified him. Chippenham said it would be three days before they could do the surgery. The surgeon said we had to get an ambulance to Johnson Willis because I needed surgery and he could do it the next day instead. An ambulance came and took me to Johnson Willis, it was good to finally get something to help the pain, but it never fully went away. Also it was good to be laying down where they were able to put ice on my arm and shoulder. The next day I had my surgery and it was days before the pain subsided a little. I thank God for a good surgeon that took me to a different place so I could get my surgery instead of waiting three days. Having a heart condition has had me to the emergency room many times over the years, always either St. Mary’s or Henrico Doctors. I had a kidney stone one time and was in so much pain because it was moving down my back. Henrico Doctor’s Hospital took me right back, put me on a heart monitor and gave me something for the pain. I have never had to sit in an emergency room for over two hours. My cardiologist has always told me to let the hospital know immediately that I have a heart condition so I can be treated appropriately and my heart would be monitored at all times. The fact that the nurses didnt think it was important enough to let anybody know that I had a heart attack and irregular heart beats could have cost me my life. They need to take a good look at what is going on in their emergency room before they lose somebody and get hit with a large lawsuit. Also, people need to be treated with respect and kindness, especially when they are in a lot of pain. I will never go to Chippenham again. Even though I live in Chesterfield, I will always go the Henrico Doctor’s Hospital. I could easily have lost my life while waiting for the staff to act. The only reason I went to Chippenham because they were close and I was in a lot of pain. I know now I should have gone to Henrico Doctors. My cardiologist is there and I know the emergency room would contact him. Please don’t take anyone to this place. It could be the last mistake you make.

Boyfriend came into the ER the nurses there were great he was admitted to the ICU fifth floor the nurses the first day were nice as well this morning I get here the nurse doesnt even introduce herself when she comes in the room and the she treats me as if Im annoying her by asking questions. She called the front desk for help herself no one came for like 5 minutes.. Then the nurse that did come I overheard her say "I cant help her anymore Im not gonna risk my baby for that as if my boyfriend isnt a person. We came here just for the ER if I wouldve even thought he wouldve needed a ventilator I would have definitely took him to VCU.. Ive been to their ICU before and its nothing like this they answer questions without attitudes u call for help someone actually comes and even if its not their patient if a nurse hears an alarm she comes regardless...I wouldnt even bring my dog this hospital...I have an update.... So his mom comes the second day hes admitted she asked all day to speak with a doctor who never showed up to speak with her although said Dr (whom I wont mention until hes discharged) was on the unit the whole time sitting at the nurses station that was right ACROSS from his room. The nurses the third day were completely awesome unfortunately he had the same Dr. He came upon a personal issue which was causing him pain and bleeding I heard the nurses report it to her and ask her to check it but she didnt later on that day his pain got worse so the nurses contacted her once again she still never came to check the issue but came to the conclusion he didnt need pain meds now there could be a reason she said that but being that she never came to the room or saw how bad the problem actually was I dont know her reasoning. I never seen a Dr like her in my life its literally jaw dropping.

I spent 3 days and 4 nights at this hospital and left with no results or explanation for my condition but I did leave with pain meds, of course. On the night of my arrival (I arrived around 7:30) into the ER, I knew as soon as it was time for my urine sample I had to go. The nurse escorted me to the restroom (note: I was in the ER for passing out, dizziness and more symptoms) and it was hard enough to even go to the restroom and wash my hands without feeling sick. I open the door and the nurse was gone, so I think its kind of strange that he would leave. What if something happened? Low and behold, something did, as I walked myself back to my room, I dropped right there on the ER floor and my FRIENDS came and escorted me back to my bed. NO ONE HELPED. Besides the fact that I waited for HOURS just to for them to tell me I could go home until I asked them about some other pain and then they proceeded to do other tests which prolonged my stay in the ER yet some more. In the midst of it all, whomever took my blood accidentally threw it in the trash and had to retake it all again... UGH. Finally I got a cat scan at 1 AM and then admitted to the ICU (yes, ICU) at 4 AM!!!!! It was horrible. I loved loved loved the nursing staff but to go through all of that and that was just the first night and leave with no explanation.... It was horrible.
