Undoubtedly the worst experience Ive ever had. I was very impressed with Dr ballards knowledge (or so I thought). My dog was on and off sick and he insisted we had to do every test at once. Racking up a bill nearly $600. But nothing was wrong. Then said we needed to do more tests. To cost more $$. I ended up finding out from a friend who was NOT a vet that chicken allergies are common in dogs (what her vet told her) so I switched my dogs food to a beef based rather than chicken based food and the problem was gone. Dr Ballard also told me she had a baby tooth that never came out and was infected and was causing her pain and that she had gingivitis and needed dental right away. I took her and they didnt do the surgery bc he said she didnt respond to the pre-meds well. Charged me $40. And rescheduled. The quote for the whole surgery was over $400 so out of curiosity I called my old vet. They said they only charge $190 for the surgery. I took the dog there instead. Where they told me she did have a baby tooth that needed taken out but it was definitely not infected and was not painful to her. And she definitely did not have gingivitis, she had very mild tartar. So mild they wouldnt have done the dental had the tooth not needed taken out anyway. Cheshire Crossing wants your money. They dont care what happens to your animal or your pockets. They impress you with their "knowledge" of your animal and then use it against you to take you for whatever they can. Make the drive to Alexandria Animal Hospital. Well worth the gas to have someone who cares about your animal AND you.

Cindy Tadsen Clay I have been a customer of Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital for many years, probably right after they opened. Yesterday morning we had a big scare, our mastiff/great dane, Odin ate a pair of stockings, then threw up his food. After reading who knows how many pages on the internet, I was getting very concerned that he had a blockage. After calling the office and talking to Anita, Dr. Carpenter decided that we needed to take Odin to Med Vet. Fortunately he did not need emergency surgery, but Med Vet suggested they call our regular vet and have him monitored for the day, as he was dehydrated and things could still go very wrong with the stockings being in his intestines. I am unhappy to report that Cheshire Crossing Animal Clinic refused to see our dog and basically blew us off because they were having a Christmas Party. You cannot imagine the embarrassment we felt in front of the ER vet when she told us our vet was blowing us off. She suggested we take our dog to Powell Veterinary Clinic, who took him without question and took care of him all day. The vets and staff at Powell Veterinary Clinic were recommended to us by our friend. Then I was informed that the hernia surgery that Cheshire performed on our dog was botched and he would have to have surgery again. I dont know what happened to this practice, but years ago I would have recommended Cheshire and Dr. Ballard to anyone of my neighbors. Now I will tell this story to my neighbors and recommend Powell. I hope you all had a great time at your Christmas Party.

Dr. Ballard is pleasant, polite, and a professional veterinarian. Definitely a pleasure to visit. He is truly a compassionate and caring vet that loves all animals and takes the time to answer your questions and concerns. So, make sure to tell him as much information about your pet as you possibly can because he truly listens! I have been taking my 4 Yorkies to Cheshire Animal Hospital since we moved here almost six years ago. There is absolutely no doubt I will refer this small animal hospital to any pet owner I know. It sure is a wonderful feeling to have such a professional, trusting staff take care of my babies! I would never go anywhere else for animal care and have recommended them to several friends who were looking for a vet in the Lewis Center area. I am not the type of person to ever write reviews, however I stand by Cheshire Animal Hospital. We couldn’t be more pleased!!! They go above and beyond with everything!! Words cannot express the tremendous gratitude, support, and gratefulness that the entire animal hospital has provided to us. We thank God for your generosity and the loving care you provide to our animals. We know we have many years ahead of us, working together! Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work- it is very much appreciated!

I cant express enough gratitude about the great experiences and even a devastating one that I have had with Dr. Ballard and his staff. Every time I have had to take one of my fur babies there, we were treated with kindness and respect. Everything was explained so we understood, and what treatment was needed if any. The entire staff was extremely caring and sympathetic when I had to make a devastating choice to let my long time friend and companion of 10 1/2 years cross the Rainbow Bridge. They allowed me as much time with her that I wanted or needed even though they were closing for the day. A few days later I received a sympathy card in the mail and was signed by each and everyone of the staff ( that shows me that they care and love each and everyone of there clients and there families ). I also am super excited with the fact that Dr. Ballard treats PitBulls because I currently have two and so many vets will not take PitBulls. He is always thorough and gentle when greeting and handling my fur babies. I will recommend Dr. Ballard and his staff to anyone and I will continue to take my fur babies to his clinic.

I can not say enough about Dr. Ballard and his staff. They are all very kind and friendly. Showing as much patience for the pet owners as well as the pets themselves. You can tell they truly love what they do, from the girls in the front office to both Dr. Ballard and Dr. Carpenter. Im newer to the area and take finding a vet for my dog and cat just as important to me as finding a doctor for myself. From the moment I walked into the beautifully landscaped new building, to the moment i left, i felt as if i were home. The whole staff is full of truly beautiful people who are full of kindness, compassion, and knowledge. I had a foster dog with me that i had received earlier that day and Dr. Ballard understood the dogs position, my lack of knowledge on the dogs behavior and vaccinations, and treated both the dog and myself with a great deal of compassion and dignity. Ill be seeing him and his staff for all my pets!!

I have been taking our pets to Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital for the last few years. I have thoroughly been impressed with the care our pets have received. Dr. Ballard and Dr. Carpenter are two of the most knowledgeable vets I have had the pleasure of working with over the years. The staff at Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital is so caring and dedicated to the well-being of all animals. Dr. Carpenter and Dr. Ballard are also always available for questions and support before or after hours. My cat had his front claws removed and I was contacted before the surgery and after the surgery for an update on my cats condition. This to me is going above and beyond. Dr. Ballard and Dr. Carpenter have always been there for my pets and I am thankful. Hats off to the best animal hospital I know. It is a place dedicated to all animals!!!
