ER visit was approximately 8:30 pm on a Saturday evening November 21st 2015. Check in clerk was very nice and friendly. No one in lobby so was taken back almost immediately. Not so fast....this is when the visit started to go down hill. I had stitches from minor hand surgery that was causing me extreme discomfort. My severe arthritis (Im on Enbrel 50 mg injections weekly) exasperates any and all injuries and surgeries. The swelling was getting worse with each hour. Anyways, I wasnt there not even 5 maybe 6 minutes and three people told me "Oh that looks sooooo good! Its not infected." For one thing nurses treat and doctors diagnose. I haven’t even seen the MD yet. No comfort, no reassuring words nada. I was trying to hold my swollen hand and keep it elevated while Brenda the nurse was asking me questions as fast as she could. Ignoring my comfort level. The curtain was left open and I could see the staff congregating at one spot talking and laughing. During this time my back was beginning to hurt due to the height of the bed, again no one came back to see how my comfort level was. After 20- 25 minutes Dr. Rogers came to the edge of the room and looks across the room at my hand and states those stitches are coming out and leaves. No physical exam, no mention of my comfort level. I never saw Dr. Rogers again. By this time I was attempting to sit up because I was unable to adjust my bed. Brenda the nurse then returned and told me to put my hand on the cold metal bed rail. Really? My hand was throbbing with pain. My hand and arm should have been placed on a bedside table and resting on a towel or pillow and prepped properly. My hand and suture site was not cleaned before nor after the sutures were removed! And she wore no gloves. No kidding! Keep in mind the patient, me, needs to be protected from any potential bacteria and virus Brenda has on her hands. Brenda was rough, I was attempting to hold my hand up while she was pulling and tugging at my sutures. It hurt like hell! By the time she was finished I was holding my hand in almost in midair to accommodate her grab and cut approach. Brenda immediately placed a cover on the site and started haphazardly wrapping my hand with coband and told me to put Neosporin on site when I get home. I requested some before she complete the wrap and she stated that it was not possible because it was a prescription. No its not, it is an over the counter medication. Keep in mind my now removed sutures site was not cleaned. My husband and I was left alone walking toward the incorrect exit, it was the front clerk who directed us to the correct exit door. And that is where I prefer to leave that place forever. P.S. Brendas 31 years experience does not equal quality care. She’s lost her touch, literally! And I plan to request an itemized bill. I’m going to see how much I’m charged for Dr. Rogers 20 second exam. NOT. ____________ RN BSN, graduate of Ohio State College of Nursing. The end

I would have done 5 stars, but Dr. G was absolutely terrifying. The reception was pleasant, the xray tech was friendly, the male nurse was heaven sent, but that doctor!! He assumed that because I waited so long to check the extent of my injury, that I was "seeking". I explained I didnt want medicine, I wanted to find out how significant the injury was so I would know how to best heal it. This doc...he was actually in my face yelling at me wanting to know WHY I had an allergy to a particular medicine that would have helped (in his opinion). I dont know why the histamines in my body react violently to his preferred treatment, I dont know why bee stings kill some people but not others. Im not a doctor, why would I know WHY I have an allergy? When I refused injections, he was very angry. The end result was that I told the nurse to keep him away from me or to at least be in the room if he had to come back. My request was honored which went far towards redemption as a genuinely caring facility. I followed up with my own doctor the next morning and those injections I refused would have done very little or nothing at all. The MRI confirmed the problem, (which I received two days later at the same hospital) and those injections were not the solution. Physical Therapy might fix it, surgery if PT doesnt allow the return of function. Pain medication would have simply muted the symptoms allowing me to further damage my injury. Those injections would have alleviated the pain somewhat according to my doctor, but would have done nothing for the injury. In spite of that doctor, I will return to this Emergency Room in the future. Everything else went quickly and smoothly after I established there would be no pain medication accepted in any form. Shame that doctor was more focused on denying pain meds to someone who didnt want them than diagnosing my injury and alleviating my fears of permanent damage.

I went to this hosptial because of a severe headache and I knew my bp was sky high. I was having trouble with my vision as well. I also advised both the nurse and doctor of my heart condition. Once they finally got me in a room and checked it, it was 221/144 and I was in so much pain. They let me sit there with no pressure cuff on and nothing to relieve the pain for 2 hours. in fact, when my boyfriend got there, the cuff was just dangeling from the monitor, laying on the floor. My speech wasnt good and I kept repeating myself to my boyfriend and he also mentioned this to the physician, who was unconcerned. When I told the doc I was also concerned about my blurry vision, he plainly said " you should go to an eye doctor". At that point I literally got up, got dressed and left , went to another hospital. Where they determined I was moments away from a stroke, needed nitro and other medicines. I still cannot beleive the treatment and ignorance there. My advise... if its serious, dont go to this place.. maybe just minor cuts and scratches!

Went to the ER for my back, have done it before due to it being chronic. The first 2 nurses took my info and vitals, very quick to the point didnt let me explain my issue. I only saw the doctor once just before leaving and all he talked to me about is why they arent giving me a script for pain meds, this is after having 3 shots and me telling him Im still in pain and it didnt work. The nurse did the same thing pretty much pushed me out the.door while Im saying Im still in pain. They did no imaging or investigating into why Im still hurting, just here bye call your doctor. Would not recommend to anyone who is actually in pain, they just assume youre lying, #1 thing I was taught as a nurse was to believe the patient unless given a reason and to not be judgmental. Maybe if you go during the day you MIGHT get better care.

I left Bethesda Butler Hospital $1366.00 later with blood work results and a script for an anti-inflammatory med. A week later I still had the pain behind my knee I went to the ER for. My regular doctor solved my problem with a script for $7.00 worth of steroids and no office visit. I guess I should be grateful they reduced my bill to $888.00 because I dont have insurance. I have to add that the ER bill was in my mailbox before the pain was gone in my leg! Ill know if Im eligible for financial aid in 3 months. That department is running a little behind. SMH
