Its been 6 months now since tragedy and finally able to write this review . Late last year my 5 year old cat feel ill and was taken To this vet while I was out of town . Tested once : Negative for leukemia . He was given antibiotics no testing he went back in a other time after no improvement and given random steroids no more testing . One month later and 2 visits later he was not Getting better and losing weight fast . he was anemic . I went into this vet to find out first hand what our options were for actually testing and treating my kitty . the vet was rushing every word and was shockingly rude to us . She was desenstitive to us and basically stated that because of his stage of sickness his blood couldnt be tested and should be put to sleep . She then went on to blamed us for not testing him for a blood parasite early on which I will add WAS NEVER ever offered to us before .. But she stated because of. " our financial situation. ". She didnt think we would consider this option !!!!! ??? Basically she told me she saw me as poor and wouldnt pay $200 for a test that could of streamlined his treatment and saved his life . ... Unbelievable !! She refused to test him at this point and recommended several times to just to put him down . I have never felt more ridiculed and abandoned in my life by a professional I trusted with my best friends life . I immediately drove him to another emergency vet and they did test him and found the right treatment . He lived another 2 weeks but the medication didnt have enough time to help him at a late stage thanks to this fuxked up vet . I would highly recommend taking your animal else where I regularly regret taking my cat to them and live with that pain of trusting this office .

Calvin had been treated at Lakewood Animal Hospital ever since he was four months old. Calvin died at 5:00 am on March 5, 2013 at the age of 13 even though he had been at the hospital at approximately 6:00 pm on March 4. I brought Calvin in on January 31 because he had become withdrawn and was not eating. I was assigned to Lori Koenig who gave him some antibiotics and fluids, took an x-ray and told me to keep him away from my other cat in case he had something contagious. She called later and said they think they see a shadow on the x-ray and he should have an ultrasound. I told her we would wait to see if the antibiotics helped. She said okay. After Calvin’s death I found out that the x ray report had said, “The distended abdomen and loss of serosal detail is consistent with accumulation of free fluid, carcinomatosis, or peritonitis…” Koenig had plenty of opportunities to let me know what was wrong with Calvin but she never did. I called on March 2 because Calvin was getting so sick, and they told me to take him to Brookpark Animal Emergency Clinic. The doctor there said it seems like he has cancer. When I brought him back to Koenig March 4 she acted like this was my fault! What a pathetic excuse for a doctor. I spent $276.75 at Lakewood Animal Hospital on January 31, mostly on an x-ray report that I did not get the results of until after Calvin’s death; I spent a total of $904, for Calvin to die a horrible, miserable death from cancer.

Beyond expectations, wonderful. I recently took my cat in for a urinary obstruction and uti. I was so upset because I had read so many bad things about this problem. I was suggested to LAH through a friend, I called immediately at 8a.m. and they were soo kind and understanding, had me come in asap. As soon as I got there they were gentle and we were seen within 5 minutes. My cat was completely comfortable and the employees had so many wonderful things to say about my cats stay there. They were understanding about me being on a strict budget and gave me an estimate of everything before they proceeded. The amount was lower than I had expected but I never felt that they treated me or my cat any lesser for it. When I came to pick him up they, again, had nothing but great things to say about him and they had the food and medication all ready to go. Also, LAH sets up an online profile for you with medical history and medications, plus you can add pictures for future use like pets getting lost. I called for a progress report in three days and the vet called me right back to answer some questions, she was very very helpful in more ways than one for me, my cat and my emotions. I even got a call on Saturday for another update from a second vet that attended to him. I would suggest LAH in a heartbeat and Im going to keep them as a permanent veterinarian from now on.

Check your bills! They billed me for a "future" service without informing me. Took my new kitten I got from the APL to try out this vet (I have a normal vet but Lakewood is way closer). The staff at the desk were not very personable. No biggie. Then the vet came in. I timed it. 3 minutes. I had some questions but she was in and out so fast it made my head spin. Didnt introduce herself either so I dont know who she was. Then they said they would call me with fecal results. It came back that she had a parasite. I sent my husband up to pick up the antibiotics and was shocked when he said it was $64. Upon looking at the bill I saw I was charged $30 for a fecal. Thought it was a mistake so I called. They informed me that it was to pay to test her after we are done with the treatment. In 8 weeks!!!! I am furious that they just tossed that on my bill. Most vets charge for services when you come in not 8 weeks ahead of time. The lady said it was to ensure that we come back in 8 weeks. Im a goddamn adult, I dont need someone holding my money as a hostage to come back, and certainly we should have been made aware that we were paying for that, we would have declined. Thats just predatory and bad business. I will go back to my usual vet and pay as services are rendered.

If you read through reviews youll notice their current four star rating. Reviews that make you feel that if you owned a dog, you would feel good knowing that your dog is in good hands. The other thing that you will notice is why their rating isnt higher and that is because pretty much everyone who has brought their cat to them has had a horrific experience. I am yet another person who has experienced just how much they dont care about your cat, you by extension for having a cat and having the nerve to bring it in to see one of their Veterinarians, who dont seem to care about cats. The only reason they tolerate you is to see how much money they can extract from you before you run out of money, get fed up with them and go elsewhere or your cat dies during the process. Luckily their hatred of cats just lead me to going to West Park Animal hospital to get an accurate answer and appropriate treatment for a non-life threatening issue. Others, unfortunately after reading reviews werent so lucky. So Im not saying you shouldnt go to Lakewood Animal Hospital and if you have a dog in need of care go for it. However if you have a cat, avoid them at all costs. It could save you money and potentially even your cats life.
