Two stars instead of one because the male ER (Fri. 8/26) in-take nurse was impeccably professional, kind, had side humor; and, the way he handled his equipment assured me that he was well experienced. But for him and the wonderful husband and wife medical team: Drs. Mr. and Mrs. Lele, Id be giving this joke of a care facility a zero not even a single star. This is because the nursing staff was awful. I mean, just awful. From miss-characterizing facts provided by the family to ignoring the patients condition and mistreating the patient due to the obvious medical condition. Nurse (Black male) on fourth floor impressed me tremendously so I increased my star rating from one to two for him. He had a sixth sense for what our family needed and what my mom was experiencing as a DEMENTIA patient. He seemed to be the only care provider on the fourth floor who attended to his care fully aware of my moms disease. However, his colleagues were inept, clueless, and derelict in their duties as direct care providers. They were insulting, impatient, and generally unkind. I first noted a problem with the ER nurse a blazing red head with lots of advice from her own experience with her own mother. But, she was the one who told me they dont hospitalize patients who dont take their medicine. And, although my mom couldnt walk (they had not yet found out why-turns out two days later after THE test that my mom had a stroke) this ER nurse told me we would need to take my mom home. I appealed to her without begging because if they wanted to release her to home I was taking her; shes my mom! They decided to keep her to help me with the no walking issue-YES, SHE SPOKE FOR THE DR. SHE SAYS AND THEY WERE GOING TO DISCHARGE HER since they did not find a blood clot although her glucose was 442 and pressure was on high side of normal not severely high. Then nursing on the floor told me my dad "leaves my mom on the floor when she falls" WHAT!#$#$%&% Who in the hell told them that? Complete mischaracterization. Lastly, they must have said something to the skilled nursing home about my mom to cause the nursing home to refuse her entry. Of course, I have no way to prove my suspicion, but these people are unconstrained in their details that are not confirmed as true that they make part of the HOSPITAL RECORD! How reckless and stupid. Why would someone hear one thing from a patient/family member and couch it in their own gossip and obvious casual conversation about patients. NURSING STAFF AT LAKE WEST HOSPITAL ARE UNPROFESSIONAL. Nurse Christine is not a part of that. My advice to her is to RUN before the place really gets a jaded reputation from those bad nurses. Ill be back to name names so those self-righteous uncaring nurses are exposed.

my mother was recently here for a lumbar fusion surgery on May 24th, 2016. Although her surgery went smoothly and her surgeon was absolutely wonderful, she was in recovery the night of May 24th into the early morning hours on May 25th. Her over-night nurse was nearly almost an HOUR late on the call button, called at 2am and didnt show up until almost 3am. My mom was in a serious amount of pain, her nurse was super late administering her pain medication. (Was supposed to have her Percocet at 12:30am, didnt get them until the nurse finally showed up at nearly 3am) Her nurse, whos name is BRITTANI, didnt check on her at all from 10:50 until nearly 3am, as well. When the nurse finally showed up, my mom jokingly said, "its about time," Brittani SNAPPED at my mom, and said, "what did you just say to me?". My mom, "I hit the call light twice the whole time Ive been here, Im in a lot of pain." Brittani, "you didnt hit the call light. You arent the only person on this floor I have to take care of." From what I know, nurses are NOT supposed to talk to patients that way. Theyre just like the actors at Disney Land, they arent supposed to "break character." Theyre supposed to be kind and theyre supposed to help. When Brittani finally brought my mom her medication, the numbers on the pills she brought were different than the numbers on the pills that my mom had previously taken so she had asked what was given to her, and Brittani told her to "just take it." You have EVERY RIGHT to know what you are taking in the hospital whenever someone else is administering your medication, she should NOT have told my mom to just take the meds. Then, she SLAMMED my moms morphine into her hand-IV one right after the other without easing it into her system to the point where it had completely collapsed the veins in that area. BUT THEY CHERRY ON TOP has to be that SHE LIED ABOUT WHAT TIMES SHE CAME IN TO CHECK ON MY MOMS TRANSITION FOR CARE LIST! Brittani wrote in the logs at 11:33pm that my moms pain was at a 6, she wasnt in the room since 10:52pm. 1:01am that she was in the room and wrote that my mom was cooperative, and self-eating. My mom also told her that her pain level was at an 8, she logged it as a 6. she then logged at 1:12am that she checked and gave my mother her medication. said my mom was self-eating again. 2:48am, logged my moms pain as a 6 when it was easing into a 9 without her pain medication. If this nurse is NOT reprimanded for all the wrong she has done, Ill be DAMNED if I ever step foot into Lake West again. Ill let everyone I come across know what this nurse did to my mom.

My family and I have been extremely dissatisfied with the unethical hospital operations to keep Medicare patients longer. My grandmother, was admitted last Monday for a fall. She has been kept much longer than she shouldve, despite us repeatedly asking for the paperwork to be sent to her insurance and rehab facility. On Friday. my father was told by the caseworker on the floor that the paperwork was sent over. (It was not). Today I requested the paperwork to be sent over again and stated the urgency being the availability of a bed at the rehab facility. I was told they would do it, but it could take "several" days to process. Dr. ___ then came in and said she could not do anything with insurance because everything was closed for the holiday. I followed up later with Medical Mutual. The customer service rep I spoke to at MM said that they are not closed and she doesnt know why I was told that. I asked if MM received any records from the hospital. She said no and reiterated what needed to be sent and where to send it to. My father and I went back down to the nurses station and asked to speak with the caseworker. Despite us being able to see her, she would not talk to us because she was "too busy processing our paperwork", which was supposedly done on Fri & earlier that day. Poor customer service. She could certainly hear everything we had to say about the games they are playing to keep my grandmother longer. I then asked for copy of the paperwork so I could confirm to Med Mutual that it had been done and sent in. We were later told by head of nursing staff that we would have to contact 602-3108 the medical records department to get this. (I am not sure why they were unable to make a copy of the papers they just sent over) Unsurprisingly the number we were given didnt work. The level of care my grandmother has received has been deplorable. Last week when my father told me stories of how nobody would come and assist my grandmother with the restroom, I thought he was exaggerating, but once I experienced it I could see what a lean and unresponsive staff seems to be running the place. Yesterday she did not receive dinner until later when my sister had to go and request it for her. My grandmother is not receiving treatment- she is sitting in a chair looking out a window and needs to be moved over to an appropriate rehab setting, which Lake Health is dragging their feet on to get more $ from medicare.
