I honestly dont even want to give this hospital a rating at all. I went into the ER in River City, Jacksonville for heart palpations. The nurses seemed to be competent the first night. They brought in 4 nurses, did an EKG, hooked me up to a monitor, and observed my heart rate, Im assuming. I was there for about 3 hours and was then told that they were just PVCs and since they were spaced out, there was nothing to worry about. The doctor told me if they started to become close together, or happened back to back more than 5 times, to make another visit. I waited another day, but that night had to take another trip to the same ER because they were scaring me. The man at the registration desk was very rude and cut me off several times. I waited in the ER waiting room for about 30 minutes before they finally took me to a room. I was in the ER from 12 am until 2. It took them two hours just to decide that they wanted to transfer me to the Downtown Shands. Every time a doctor came into the room in the ER, they asked me what was going on like they had no idea. They all seemed to be very oblivious to what was going on. So around 2, the paramedics came in and AGAIN, they asked me what was wrong and what was going on, like they were not informed about my situation and problems. They then transported me to the hospital downtown. That was honestly the fastest experience I had there. It took probably 10 minutes to get there. When i did arrive, I soon came to learn that the nurses were extremely slow. I had to click the call button nearly 5 times each time to get a nurse to come into the room. I was hooked up to a heart monitor and each time I took a shower, it had to be removed. One of my nurses took an hour just to put it back on, when anything could have happened within that time. I had 4 EKGs done, and Echo done, and multiple blood and urine tests. All of them came back normal. I checked into the hospital on Friday and did not leave until Monday. I was told that I had to wait until the cardiologist came in on Monday because they did not work on weekends. SO i waited, hoping they could tell me something about what was going on with my heart. So Monday comes around, and I was abruptly awoken to a very rude nurse giving me a EKG. She was very rough and had a very bad attitude. I asked her why i needed another EKG because I had already had several and she replied "because the doctor ordered one and OBVIOUSLY they need to see the material again." She was very very rude. So I waited until around 1 to speak with the cardiologist who was foreign and I could barely absorb what he was saying because he talked very fast. He also could not make eye contact with me which i thought was very unprofessional. He basically told me that the PVCs were normal and they would get better on their own and eventually fix themselves. They he told me that he wanted to order ANOTHER EKG and do a treadmill test after he said they were not serious. I told him that every doctor I had seen had absolutely no idea what was happening with me, they told me one thing and the other told me something else. And i told him this was all a waste of time and that nothing was being told to me that was beneficial in any way. I then told him i wanted to leave, so he said he would tell the nurses to get together my discharge papers. I waited about 20 minutes then I paged the nurse that i wanted to leave and needed the papers. She said she would tell my nurse. I waited and the nurse did not come in. SO i paged her again and she said she would tell her. I waited an hour before my husband and I gave up and he removed my IV and we left. Its also 4 dollars just to get out of the damn parking lot! I DO NOT recommend this hospital. Very very unprofessional nurses and doctors. This experience was absolutely horrible for me and I wouldnt wish that on my worse enemy. AWFUL.

I was sent here -- over an hour from home - because I was told that closer MRI equipment did not give accurate results. This includes the two on Amelia Island; where I live. Knowing what I know I accept this as correct. The staff members who conducted the testing were excellent and ultra professional. They got five stars. I checked in with the lobby receptionist -- noticed for her ultra long finger nails pained in ombre pastels -- with eyelids to match. I told her that I had appointments at 9am and 11am. Apparently she did not see the 9am appointment and sent me off in search of what turned out to see my 11am appointment. It appears that they have no maps of an extremely complex system of interconnected buildings. After waiting while the receptionist -- in a glassed in booth helped someone else. She checked me in and then said my procedure was in 2 hours. A call was made for someone to come and get me -- as if I had made the error and gone to the wrong area. I was eventually checked in checked in and told to have a seat -- for 30 minutes. There was a loud blasting TV -- I only listed to the evening news and this was junk. In spite of the "no cell phones" signed everyone except me was screaming into a phone. It was extremely tension provoking. Perhaps this is why the staff was enclosed with glass. The technician who performed my procedure -- was EXCELLENT -- she was professional and made me relax. But why while I was in a state of undress was she interrupted 4 times by people entering the room to After this I was sent off to retrace my steps to the area I had started in. This test was more complex -- and these people were great. Apparently the hospital no longer provides them with blankets to keep patents warm while in MRI tubes. They found some sheets I called my ride, who was shopping, after the tests and decided to peek in the cafe for a snack. A single 6oz soup of tomato soup was $3.08 -- WOW. A simple lunch on a paper plate was $10.00. I am sure the employees get either free of highly reduced lunches.

This hospital is God awful and I wouldnt recommend it to someone if they broke a finger or scraped a toe. My first encounter was sat week when I started receiving care here. I transferred from Virginia and Im 34 weeks pregnant. The exam rooms alone turned me off, they were FILTHY! I have never seen a hospital soo nasty in my entire life. I took pictures and intend to get this place investigated. Last night I went to the Naval Hoapital because I was having a headache. They immediately hooked me up to monitors and as soon as they noticed my babys hear stop like five people swarmed in. They were ready with oxygen, an IV, and kept coming in every 15 mins to check on me. My blood pressure went up and because Im high risk and get my high risk care at Shands the naval hospital had to transfer me. I got to Shands at 8pm last night and NEVER saw a doctor. Upon my arrival the trash was overflowing and the nurse says "oh we called house keeping three hours ago" what the hell! Thats something that should be gone before putting patients in rooms. Then at almost one in the morning a doctor comes in to say "were going to admit you and the other doctor already spoke with you and made note" the doctor never said a word to my wife or myself, she came in for my records and left and never came back. So they transfer me to anti partum where I stayed until 1 pm this afternoon and still never saw a doctor! My blood pressure didnt go down and there was just not a very good feeling there. Not to mention my nurse killed a roach on the wall. And even with all this they still couldnt understand why I didnt want to deliver there. They have no compassion or care and they just blew me off. This place sucks! If theres one roach there is ALWAYS more and its disgusting. Nobody would sit and eat at a restaurant if the service was like what I just described at this hospital so Im not sure how theyre still in the business of saving lives and helping people. I cant be the only one who feels this way!
