I was a patient at Highland Springs for two weeks back in late summer of this year, and I also participated in the PHP program following my discharge. On the whole, my experience at Highland Springs was very positive and Im glad that I received treatment there. My only concerns are as follows: when I was admitted after spending the previous day/night in an ER, I was led into a admitting room and asked what I wanted to eat for breakfast. I was then left in that room for quite a while, only seeing someone when they returned with my meal tray. For someone with a high level of anxiety, to be left alone in a new place can be very frightening. I would have appreciated it if someone had explained the admission process to me prior to just being left in the admission room. My second concern is that it was primarily left up to me to find a psychologist and psychiatrist for after care once I was done with the PHP program. Prior to being admitted to Highland Springs, I had been seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist, but I was unsatisfied with those services and I wanted assistance in finding new ones. My PHP therapist helped by giving me some names of people to call - thats the issue, I was the one who was supposed to call. I eventually ended up going back to the organization I had been with previously, only with a different psychologist and psychiatrist. I understand that the point of the IPU and the PHP program is to help the patient get back on their feet and back on stable ground. However, it is very difficult sometimes to get an answer from anyone in the medical field - mental health or otherwise - and I had assumed that I would be receiving more help in setting up my aftercare. Highland Springs was a blessing to me and my parents, and I greatly thank the staff there for everything they did for me. I would and will recommend Highland Springs to anyone who either needs the assistance I received, or has a loved one who needs the assistance.

I was admitted last March (2016) a week before Easter. Ive been to two other hospitals and Highland by far was the best one I went to. The other two hospitals over medicated me to the point where I didnt know where I was, couldnt remember anything, and always wanting to sleep. This facility was very new, updated, and comfortable. The staff was absolutely fantastic. I had nothing but positive interactions with every single nurse and assistants. I even ended up having a massive panic attack and they handled it perfectly. I went into my room, while my roommate went out into the common room. The nurse and assistant were extremely helpful in calming me down. There was one assistant, unfortunately I dont remember her name as it was over a year ago, that was amazing. I felt like she related to me very well and she was so caring. The only thing I didnt like, which wasnt Highlands problem, was the fact that I got to the hospital at around 3 in the morning. The ER didnt find a facility with an open bed until around 1:30 in the morning. When I got into the hospital, they made sure I was comfortable and sleeping within 20 minutes. Id gone in and out of mental hospitals a few times, and I cant say that any of them helped me as much as Highland did. Ever since I was discharged, I havent cut (which was a pretty common occurance for me). Its been over a year and Ill always remember how positive my experience was. Thank you guys so much for helping me gain control of my severe bipolar disorder/borderline personality disorder. I couldnt be more thankful! If youre thinking about sending a loved one to a psychiatric hospital, this is a great facility for them to recover!

Highland Springs is a new facility (opened Oct 2015). Therefore it is very nice with lots of amenities. The cafeteria style food was very good. We sampled it twice during family days. My relative also gained about 15 pounds while being in there for nearly a month! My main complaint is the lack of communication with the families. I know this is a crisis center and most patients only stay for 3-10 days, but some (like us) stay much longer. It would have been nice to know what types of doctors are visiting daily, who our assigned therapist was and who to contact with questions. Just basic communication like this was missing. We had to learn all of this on our own and ask for updates. I would also highly recommend getting a second opinion based on the diagnosis and post treatment recommendations from Highland Springs. Our experience is that they tend to be overly aggressive in their diagnosis. From what we saw and heard with many other patients there, Highland Springs treats the patient while at the facility, but is limited in recommending options for further treatment. I wish they had affiliated doctors that had available appointments (without having to wait 4 months). Just be aware that you are on your own finding the next step for your loved one. You will be responsible for most of the research.

Highland Springs in-patient was a wonderful expierence for my dual addiction. You are daily in the care of a doctor, therapist and nursing staff. You do not feel that you are there and have to deal with your health issues alone. Daily, you attend meetings regarding your addiction and mental issues. The therapist listens to your needs and helps you work thru your issues. The doctor sees you every day to check on your recovery. Nurses are on staff 24/7 . The entire staff works with you, individually. Highland Springs patient rooms and all other common areas are immaculate. The dining room has meals three times daily. The common areas provide snacks throughout the day and extra sandwiches in the evening. I would highly recommend in-patient treatment at Highland Springs. After being discharged I committted to their out-patient three week program (PHP). The groups of five or six patients are assigned a therapist and meetings are attended by your peresonal therapist plus other therapists officiating in hourly meetings. I can truly say that I am not mentally the same desponded person who began the program. I did not think that was possible. Thank you to all the Highland Springs staff.

I was very disappointed with the compassion and sensitivity of this organization. First, when we were interviewed, they said our insurance did not cover their facility, and later found out it did. There is not enough information given the family about the facility. Every time I went to do something, they told me it was their policy... Well, we should get a booklet of all the policies upon admission, not one at a time. And last but not least. Mya assured me that all my husbands medical records and blood tests would be given to him upon release. I have called her numerous times and left my phone number for her to get back to us. They also said that the information would be forwarded to his doctors...and they have yet to receive anything! There were other things too, but I am to upset to discuss them at this point.. well, one more.. when they took my husband in, they did not tell us that he was not coming back out to say goodbye. My 10 year old grandson and I sat there for 2.5 hours before someone notice us and said we should have left. Really... those unknown procedures ... AGAIN.
