We like others thought this clinic provided great care for animals. At times we looked the other way when in came to cleanliness. They provided the usual shots for our dog without problem. However when our dog stopped eating the vet treatment took a different turn. After not eating for two weeks we brought her in for a diagnosis. She was given fluids and some drugs but they thought it unnecessary for an x-ray. We did that for a week and saw no improvement so we took her back. This time they held her for two days at the end of which they said she was eating fine and could go home. So my wife picked her up. When she got home there was no change she was not eating and kept vomiting. We tried fresh cooked chicken and meat without success. Strange that she ate at the vet and not at home. We got the feeling that they would rather not have to deal with the problem. A few days later my wife took the dog to a vet in Longview and picked up the records at Dr. Goza’s office. On those records it was noted our dog had possible tumors. So why did we not hear about that? We were sent home with a prognosis that our dog should return to normal. At the Longview vet it was another story completely. They ran tests and an x-rays and by the next day the diagnosis was our dog had a form of fast spreading invasive cancer that was impacting her organs. To save our dog from having to go through pain and more vomiting to the end we had her put down. If we had followed Dr. Goza’s office advice we would have subjected the dog to untold hours of misery. Another note worthy of mentioning is when my wife was waiting to pick up our dog she witnessed one dog being operated on while another, which was recovering from surgery lying on a dirty floor. Conditions less than sterile. So I’m not saying to avoid this clinic just to say that perhaps you should consider other vets if it’s more than a shot, teeth cleaning or toe nails. We will never return as we expected a higher level of professionalism.

So I have a story to tell.. One that I think is very important, as an animal lover, and as a citizen of Cowlitz county. This little dog is mr. Jones... I call him little jones just cuz hes so small compared to sabyr heart emoticon. Last Sunday this little guy fell off our back two story deck onto the concrete below ;-(. By the grace of god he didnt die or break his back or neck. He did, however, break every bone in his front left paw and he broke his back femur at the knee... He needed a stabilizing temporary pin put in because it was sooo bad. We called valley vet Sunday and they met us there. After a set of X-rays, a soft splint, and exactly 3 pain pills our bill was $360. We were told his surgery would be well over $1000... A small fortune for a family going through hard financial times frown emoticon. We called around and found columbia vet in Astoria. I cant scream WONDERFUL PEOPLE loud enough. We told them jones situation, condition, and what our quotes were at every other vet. These loving angels of a staff said.. "We do this for the pets.. Not to line our pockets heart emoticon". They told us to have jones down there Thursday morning with $100 down at time of service, then $15/month after that. The TOTAL for the pin placement surgery and aftercare for 2 months, plus a new cast because the other one had been placed in a way that his foot wouldve healed completely crooked, our grand total was $320. Uh-mazing....Im not looking for any arguments about valley vet right now. Im simply stating exactly what happened to us and little jones. We are SO thankful to columbia vet clinic heart emoticon heart emoticon!!! He is mended and not completely broken anymore.. And his spirit is just admirable, to say the least. I will always and forever and ever drive the extra distance just for the love. Today we are so grateful to them for jones life.

Dr Goza is one of the BEST vets I have ever had the pleasure of knowing as well as working with. He is not only extremely caring but he also listens to the owner of the pet. Unlike many vets who do not realize that the owners knows more about the animals behavior, which can assist in diagnosing the pet, much more then anyone else, so listening to the owner will give the vet a lot of insight which might have otherwise been missed and he was aware of this which was one of the reason he was the best vet in town. Not only that he also took care of the pet without putting the cost of that care ahead of the animal. If you could not pay for the treatment right then he gave you time to pay it, allowing many owners the ability to save their pets life which they might not have been able to afford had he not allowed them to pay for it when they could. Plus the owners also did not having the added stress of having to come up with a lot of money right away or tip of the stress of possibly losing their beloved animal. It was an extremely sad day when he retired and sold the hospital. While the hospital is still a good place to go, without him it will never be like is was for the decades he was working there 6 days a week. He is very much missed. However, luckily he does come in time to time to assist when one the the regular vets is out or on vacation. So it is a rare treat if he is there when you go in. But if you do go there and he happens to be working you need to get there early because EVERYONE wants to see him so he has a long list of pets waiting in the chairs when he does come in, make sure to get there early so you can have the pleasure of him treating your pet.

On April 12, we took our 6 year old Siberian Husky Norwegian Elkhound to have a large fat mass removed. We were referred by two former clients to go to Astoria to Columbia Veterinary Hospital. We had received difficult news in Gresham from our vet that the surgery would be over $1,800 and another vets estimate of around $2,000 plus. We were devastated as we couldnt afford that. We didnt want to lose our beautiful dog as he is our family. So when we heard about Columbia Veterinary Hospital and looked at other reviews we had to call. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We were quoted on the phone $175 to $250 dollars for the surgery. We were amazed and blessed. We scheduled a time to have the surgery and went on a Saturday. The hospital was very clean and kept up nicely. The staff was helpful and extra caring as I was a bit nervous of the possibility of losing our very loved pet. When we picked him up he looked great. Dr. Kristin Zedwick met with us and told us how everything went, what to expect and what to do in great detail for his daily care post surgery. Surgery and medications ended up being in the same price range as we were quoted. Our dog is doing great, enjoying a better quality of life thanks to Dr. Kristin Zedwick and the Columbia Veterinary Hospital. We are so blessed that we learned about them and for the incredible work that they do. I highly recommend the hospital and we would tell you its more than worth the drive. You will save so much and have excellent care. They really care about helping animals. I would call the clinic prior to your visit as they schedule some surgeries and some visits are first come first serve.
