I was absolutely SHOCKED at how I was treated at this vet. I have had many, many animals in my day and been to a lot of vets, but this was by far the most unbelievable! My pet rat was suffering with an inoperable tumor. We made the very difficult decision to have her put to sleep. We called countless vets in the Eugene/Springfield area to find one we were comfortable with. I am a former vet tech and I know the absolutely awful, lazy, and painful way that most vets euthanize small animals and wanted to avoid this at all costs. I called The Veterinary Hospital MULTIPLE times prior to our appointment to make sure that my rat would be put to sleep with gas BEFORE being injected with the euthanizing chemical. I have done research and it is very painful if they are not under when this is done. That is why they put all cats and dogs under before doing this. It is PAINFUL. Plain and simple. I was assured over and over and over that she would be put under before this happened. When we got there, the staff at the front desk was very kind and understanding. However, when the vet, Dr. Johnson (the owner) came into the room I was beyond SHOCKED at what she chose to say to me. As Im sitting there crying and saying goodbye to my pet, she comes in and announces her smiling presence by saying, "Well, it looks like the end of the road for ole Lucy, huh?" I have NEVER in my life heard something more inconsiderate, rude, and plain stupid in my life. I cant even begin to fathom someone with an ounce of common sense saying that to a grieving person. It was so awful I just glared at her. I couldnt even speak I was so mad. She walked over, took Lucy from my arms, and took her over to the table. I assumed she was going to simply do the pre-check which is required. Instead, the next thing I know shes telling me I may hear her squeak as the needle goes in. Before I could say anything, she stabbed my Lucy with the needle containing the euthanizing chemical WITHOUT PUTTING HER UNDER FIRST!! Had I fully understood what was being done I would have stopped her and walked out right then. When I questioned her about it, she simply brushed me off by saying "Ive done a thousand of these." Not only did she do this in a manner I blatantly expressed that I did not want to happen, she also didnt even ask me if i was ready or tell me what was about to happen. She just took her from me. How is it possible that a vet, and an OWNER, no less can do something like that? I was told by over 4 people over the phone that she would be put to sleep with gas. That was the sole reason we chose this place. I was blatantly lied to and my poor baby had to be in pain her last few moments. Just because it paralyzes them, does NOT mean it does not hurt as it slowly absorbs into their system. If it did not hurt the animal at all, then they wouldnt bother putting every single other animal under before doing this. But because my pet wasnt large enough, Dr. Johnson didnt care. She did what she wanted despite what I wanted. I would absolutely never go back to this place. It made me sick just to have to go back and pick up Lucys ashes. I have never been more astounded with the level of unprofessionalism and inconsideration as I have been at The Veterinary Hospital. All of my in-laws go to this vet and recommended it to me. They were absolutely shocked to hear what happened and we will all be taking our business elsewhere. I hope people who read this follow our lead.

We recently moved to Eugene and when looking for a vet I chose The Veterinary Hospital based off of reviews online. The front desk staff is wonderful, welcoming, and kind to my animals. However, I was not pleased with my experience with both my animals as a whole. One of our dogs had a laceration on her side. It was about an inch in length and required removing skin around the edge of the wound to prevent infection when sewing it up. The additional evaluation and surgery cost us around $500, which I thought was way more than I have paid for anything in the past. Our second dog had been limping, and soon no longer using, her back left leg. We called to schedule an x-ray believing that it was related to her knee and possibly her ACL. I specified on the phone that she needed an x-ray on her knee and clarified that this was the need for the appointment. When we arrived she was evaluated and we were told it was too late in the day for an x-ray and we would have to come back. It is a half hour drive from our home and my dog is terrified of the car. During the evaluation, the first vet explained that he did not believe it was her knee and thought it was her hip and suggested they do x-ray’s on both knee and hip. When I scheduled the x-ray (again), we were charged again for a pre-x-ray evaluation because she was being sedated and she was originally seen by a different vet. I was thoroughly confused as to why she was seen by two different vets and why we were charged for both visits when this was clearly a mix-up on their part. When I asked them if it was possible to wave one of the evaluations because the x-ray was not scheduled properly the first time, they said no. This cost us another $500. When the results to the x-ray came back the vet told me that it was not her hip and that he couldn’t get a clear read on whether it was her knee. He asked if we wanted to send the image to be evaluated by a specialist, for an additional $100. I said yes, of course, and did not receive any clear confirmation as to what was wrong with our dog after the images were sent away. I had the images sent to my vet in Montana. She was quick to schedule surgery and it turned out she had a ruptured meniscus and a partial tear in her ACL which cost us less than all her visits at this clinic. From the actual veterinarians, I never felt that my dogs were special cases and individual patients. It felt as if they were just another animal coming in for a visit. Not personal at all. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with both experiences and would not recommend this clinic to anyone.

The Drs and assistants are spectacular! I am VERY impressed with the sensitivity and quality of care our pets have received in this facility. Dr Lisa Poquette is currently providing chiropractic care for our 5 yr old chihuahua, Casper. She was very informative about our options for his care. We dont have the financial resources for a surgical procedure, but it wouldnt matter if we did. Dr Lisa specializes in animal chiro care. He had been having a lot of discomfort and was unable to balance his hind end so he was pretty much dragging himself around. His situation progressed drastically from bad to worse in just 1 day. She assessed him, gave us the option to be referred to a veterinary surgeon or to let her do chiro care for him. She had him acting like a puppy after only 1 appointment. He didnt understand that he still had to be careful and was not very pleased about being picked up and carried to go outside to potty and go down and up the steps for a couple of weeks. He got VERY irritated with me ... quickly! I highly recommend opting for the chiro care before jumping into the surgical procedure. If your pet is not currently a patient at the Veterinary Hospital, make sure you at least inquire with your pets vet about the chiro care if your pet is having the same or similar problems Casper was. I also recommend getting a second opinion if you are told that its not an option. Its worth it to go with the chiro care before putting your pet through the trauma and pain and recovery of surgery ... especially with no guarantee when its done that it will work!!!!! Check this place out - they are FANTABULOUS!
