Ill begin with "I was naughty". I hadnt brought my cats into the vet yet, and it had been 2 years since I got them. So anyhow, the red flags began when I called. My cat was sick and causing me concern so I found the closest vet and called; Hillsboro Veterinary Clinic. The lady who answered seemed impatient and rushed through our conversation. She later apologized as it caused her to miss important information for the service needed and costs. It sort of frustrated me, but she apologized. I then scheduled for later that day. Yay! ...And honestly I was thinking "whatever, so I dont click with the receptionist". So I show up early cause I wasnt sure what to expect; paperwork and all, I dont know. The receptionist was very nice. Huh. Oh whoops, the lady I spoke to was maybe the vet tech? (Im sorry, Im not sure what the title is.) We get checked in nicely. Our exam went ok. It turned out it was the lady I spoke to on the phone. The words she spoke were not unkind, but the manner in which she spoke them almost seemed it. I could get use to it. She seemed nice enough to me and seemed to genuinely love the animals. The vet was really nice but when I asked about if they possibly had coupons, as my boyfriend said their website said to call for a coupon, she somewhat squirmed and said I hadnt followed the proper procedures required to get the coupon. What?!!? Ok, again whatever, Ill get over it. Lesson learned. Next time Ill spend more time researching how to schedule properly so as to get any discounts available. (Ill get use to technology eventually) Im at checkout now and the receptionist says it will be about $177. I say oh I dont think thats right I was told $206 something. (This becomes relevant later, sort of) she talks with the other gal and then corrects the price to the $206... fast forward to the following day. Im back again with my other two animals. I know, ugh. But I love them. We get a bunch of stuff done. The appointment went great. The first lady was growing on me. The vet was nice. They showed me the bill in the office it came to $215 something. Ouch but ok. So, I go to check out, a younger receptionist rings me up 250 something. What? I say Im sorry but this seems wrong compared to this paperwork. Maybe its just me but I think something is wrong here. She responds quickly, its just you. Really??!? Maybe, let me check it for you or something equal would be a good response .... but, its just you. But wait, upon a closer look it was a mistake on their end. She almost corrects it; she still messed up the charge for a rabies shot but by now I had been there 2 hours so close enough. I end up getting out at $222 something. Does she say sorry.... anything? No. And thats when I got upset. By the time I was driving home I was practically in tears I was so upset. To be fair, I was hungry. I ate. I was still upset. I dont think there will be a third visit. Its a shame because the vet did seem nice. But, I dont pay over $400 to be treated with such disrespect. Ill go elsewhere.

I was totally taken advantage of and wont be returning. If you go, ask for copies of EVERY piece of paper you see. If you think this whole situation is my fault thats fine, but thats why Im writing this review, so people are aware that they need to have copies of everything that goes past their face. About two weeks ago I took my dog in to this vet for the first time. She got an exam, she had a torn ligament in her knee, needed x-rays, blood work and medication; the whole thing was $300. I just picked her up from boarding her here all weekend. After I had dropped my dog off they called and told me that she needed some vaccines so I authorized those. When I came to pick her up they had also charged me for an exam to go along with those shots. I told them I didnt authorize that, I only authorized the shots - and oh by the way, the dog just had an exam! They fought and fought with me because apparently the boarding paper I signed authorized an exam if the dog needed shots - if they had mentioned the shots when I was there signing the form, I couldve seen the extra charge, but no, they waited until I left, didnt have the form in front of me, and called me to tell me she needed the shots. They didnt mention anything about the exam when they called, nor did they give me a copy of that paper so I would know what all of their extra fees were. Apparently you need a photographic memory if youre a customer here so you can memorize all of their charges that they "may" charge you "if needed". That is terrible, terrible service. My dog just had the exam prior to being boarded there - it was unnecessary and they shouldve been more clear about what they were going to charge me for when they called. Oh, they also literally held my dog hostage until I paid for the exam. I offered to pay for what I owed minus the exam and was told "were not giving you your dog until youre paid completely in full."

This clinic is really disappointing. The front staff and the vet techs are very nice, but the vets are rude, uncaring and pretty much into taking as much money off of you as they can, not the best interest of your dog. My husband and I are both blind and have guide dogs from the Guide Dog Foundation in New York. Dr. Healy always acts like she is uncomfortable talking to us, I dont know if she is uncomfortable around blind people or if that is how she is with everyone, but I kind of felt like she could barely hold back the disdain, although we have always tried to be polite to her. We have certain questions that the Guide Dog Foundation expects us to ask and certain things to look for in a vet. All animals are important, of course, but it took $60,000 (paid by generous donors) to train each of our guide/handler teams, and our dogs need to be in top shape and also are out in the world all the time, exposed to many other dogs and whatever lives on the floor of the MAX, etc. She doesnt seem to have any regard for this other than pushing unnecessary medications/procedures/etc and get the maximum profit out of us. These dogs are our second set of guide dogs each and we have also had pet cats. I have never been treated so rudely and with such disregard. We will not be returning. I tried a new vet due to location, but we will be going back to Rock Creek which has always been good to us and our animals and always are polite, flexible and have our dogs best interest at heart rather than profit. I cant say the same for the vets at Hillsboro Veterinary Clinic.
