This summer, my dog began to vomit profusely one day and through the night. We took him to Dr. Wood who felt his stomach for an obstruction and then sent him home with an anti-nausea prescription. The meds didnt work so I brought him back first thing the next morning and about 4 hours later Dr. Wood calls me saying he had just looked him over and couldnt find anything wrong. I had to ASK him to do an X-ray/Barium test! Me! He called back back once something showed up on the images and said my dog had an obstruction and needed emergency surgery. A month later we had to bring my dog back because he suddenly developed extreme diarrhea, was leaking blood out of his rectum, and wouldnt eat. I dropped him off before work and ended up having to call an hour before Third Street called because I had heard nothing all day. Dr. Wood said he didnt know what was wrong but suggested keeping him over night with an IV. I waited until mid day the next day for an update and when he finally called to tell me his condition hadnt changed I asked him if he ruled out anything else via a blood sample or something. He said no so I told him I was withdrawing case and to fax records to the vet hospital in Newberg where they diagnosed my dog with Clostridium within a day and treated him with a few different antibiotics. A couple months ago, we took my dog back to Third Street to get the last couple of shots the series we had already paid for as part of his puppy package. When Dr. Wood entered the exam room my dog hunched over with his tail between his legs and urinated submissively (Drs words). Dr. Wood scolded us for not letting him pee before coming in. Our dog is potty trained and has only dribbles indoors when hes really happy. Bottom line, DO NOT TAKE YOU PET HERE. Not only does Dr. Wood communicate poorly, but he will passive aggressively insult you at the same and waits for the owner to suggest therapies to perform.

My impression is that Dr Wood is not especially sympathetic or good with cats. My kitty is a sweet and affectionate little fellow on his own turf, but hes EXTREMELY uncomfortable and difficult at the vet, sometimes clawing or biting when he is most frightened. Not all cats are easy and while ours can be a tough case, I do expect veterinarians to be tolerant, understanding, and able to give sympathetic care to more difficult animals. While the assistants were kind and encouraging, (thank you!) at both visits I felt doctor Wood to be overtly stern, unkind and accusatory regarding our cats behavior. The first time our cat was so frightened he flipped out worse then ever before, yowling and howling and needing to be held down under a towel. I felt so terrible for him and so guilty I cried. The second time they insisted I sedate him before bringing him in. I did so and my impression was the he had done very well, but I was still scolded and made to feel guilty for his behavior afterwords, more or less told that he was a bad cat or a "dangerous animal." Hes a sweet kitty and I dont think he or his parents should be made to feel guilty or responsible for any cats unpredictable behavior. -And all cats are of course deserving and in need of routine veterinary care. Previous vets have always been kind, encouraging, and successfully at calming him down and getting the job done, so for future needs Ill be looking for a new more compassionate vet.

We first went to Dr. Wood a few years back when our dog broke her leg clean in half. Our regular vet was not qualified to do the needed surgery and we were referred to Third Street then. We were so impressed we never went back to our previous pet clinic and have now taken all of our pets to see Dr. Wood. Once in awhile we pay a few dollars more than the other vet but it is always worth more than every cent! Dr. Wood has an incredibly analytical mind yet soothing and gentle spirit that puts my wife and I as well as our animals at ease. He truly cares for our pets as little souls and extensions of our family. And the staff is every bit as good making us feel more like family than patients. And for those times when end-of-life decisions become necessary - Dr. Wood and staff were absolutely remarkable in their gentleness, care, understanding and sympathy - for both our little Faith as she gently closed her eyes in my arms - and for my wife and I during and in the days to follow. I must not fail to mention a meticulously clean and nice smelling clinic. We highly recommend Dr. Wood and staff at Third Street!

I love everything about Dr. Woods practice. The location is convenient, his staff is caring and professional, he always takes time with me and my pets, listens to my concerns and answers all of my questions fully without rambling or pressuring me when making decisions. My first visit was to have a beloved elderly cat euthanized. (My regular vet kept pushing for more testing and treatments that particular cat would not have tolerated.) Dr. Wood was gentle and sympathetic, and gave my old friend the easy, dignified send-off he deserved. The family immediately decided to take our healthy pets to him as well, and we couldnt be more pleased. Hes wonderful with my young German shepherd--performed her spay surgery with no complications, and treated her ear infection as well as other minor issues that come with owning dogs. The staff remembers our names and treats us like valued clients on every visit. I hope to never have to go to another vet again and recommend him to all the dog owners I meet.

We have been bringing our cat and both of our dogs to Third Street Veterinary Hospital since we moved to McMinnville. Our animals are our babies! Regardless of the time, or the symptoms, the staff has always bent over backward to take care of our animals AND our worries. The doctor has been accurate with every diagnosis and method of treatment. Our oldest dog had a knee injury that required surgery. He was only able to put weight on three of his legs and was in pain all the time. The surgery went so well that we can barely tell which leg had sustained the injury! He is able to run and play again. We feel very blessed to have found this wonderful team of caregivers for our pets. We would recommend them to everyone!

Dr Stan Wood and his staff are fabulous. They really care about their patients and their clients. Dr Wood is meticulous, and an amazing surgeon if that is needed. He and his staff are courteous, compassionate, and caring. Having a pet sick, or injured is very stressful, and 3rd Street Veterinary clinic staff provides the best of care, while providing care and comfort to the pet owner. We have been customers at 3rd Street for many, many years, and that speaks for itself. I highly recommend them! Patrick, Dayton, Oregon

This clinic may look unassuming, but gentle Dr. Woods and his staff are top notch. Take your pet here if you value an animal-first approach, and care comparable to what a human would receive at a family doctors office. Dr. Woods will challenge you to be a better pet guardian, so be prepared to answer kindly delivered, yet tough questions. In return you will receive lots of useful information, service recommendations, and considerate feedback. Very, very pleased with my, and more importantly my cats, experience here.
