My wife took our 1 year old Shiba Inu in who had just been neutered. We were worried that the area may had become infected because it was still pretty red. We just wanted the doctor to check it out, and make sure everything was ok. This was our first puppy, and my wife and I were obviously pretty attached to the little guy. And, most people who know Shiba Inus know that they can be aloof toward strangers and can be sensitive. Especially if they just got NEUTERED. When my wife took our pup in, she asked if she could go back with the vet during the checkup. Our pup was obviously uncomfortable because of being neutered that week and my wife was pretty attached to him. Apparently they dont really want the pet owners to go back into the rooms during appointments. The veterinarian was annoyed my wife had asked to go back, but said he would need to go get the room ready and that she could if she really wanted to. From being already annoyed, once back in the room the vet was acting with very little patience. He grabbed our pup without being gentle or petting him first, flipped him over and immediately went for the area with stitches and began pressing around. Our pup started whining and nipped at the vet. The veterinarian started tearing in to my wife about how we need to get our pup obedience training, and how he should be able to be examined without freaking out. My wife picked up our pup right then and told the guy she didnt need to hear this and immediately walked out of the place. Also, for reference… our pup is now 3 and he is great! Hes amazing with our two small children and has never bitten anyone. I think if I had stitches Id be pissed if someone just started grabbing at them. I know Im writing this review 2 years later, but we are looking for a place to take our Shiba now because he may have an ear infection. Im definitely not taking him to Companion Pet after what we experienced before. Im not sure if we caught someone on a bad day, or if we were horrible puppy parents, but the way the vet treated my wife was uncalled for. Just felt that I should write a review.

I previously had written an excellent review on the professional practices of the Companion Pet Clinic. I had rated them a 5 star and based on several recent experiences now I must rate them, at best in my estimate, a one star. Their professional fees have increased much more than the fees of other vets in the area, and their operation leaves much to be desired. While the younger vets are very forthcoming with insights and information it does not necessarily carry through to the more senior vets. Our most recent experience was with requesting a prescription from the clinic to be sent to an internet vet service. The difference in price for the product was $15 higher at the Companion Pet Clinic. We were informed that there would be a $10 charge for the script, even though our animal had blood work done there. (We are lucky that our physicians do not have such a policy!) While the younger professional staff has been very helpful, it certainly does not carry over to the front office personnel. We have been given (what should be reserved to the professional opinion of a veterinarian) and also given erronous information. It is not uncommon to not have the person answering the phone refuse to identify themselves so their less-than-proper performance may be addressed to their management. It truly is sad when a seemingly well run, not overly expensive, vet clinic goes from a 5 star to a one star. Hopefully their management will take whatever actions are necessary to go back to being an effecient, effective, compassionate clinic. Unfortunately we will have to find another clinic, one that has compassion for the patient and the patients owners.

This afternoon, on a Wednesday 7/29/15, I went in to get one of my dogs their rabbies and DAPP vaccines as they just expired earlier this month and I was trying to board my dogs at a kennel for the weekend. I was planning to leave town either Thursday night or Friday morning. So anyways... I went in at 5:20, there was no one their being seen or picking up (I was the only non-employee there), and everywhere posted (online, their door) says they are open til 6 pm. The receptionist/tech told me "technically" they were closed and that the last hour they were open was just for pick ups. She went and asked the vet if they could get me in. For which she came back and told me they could, but would have to charge me a $100 emergency fee because they were "technically" closed. Granted I had never been there before, but Companion was recommended by my kennel (though she did say the Forest Grove one was better) for the ease of getting in without an appointment. And for which they wanted to schedule and appointment during their "regular" hours, which didnt work with my schedule. I work ten hour days in Hillsboro. Thus resulting in me cancelling my plans for the weekend. This experience gives me the feeling they are all about the money, otherwise they would have gotten me in then during their posted hours of operation at the regular rate. I will never go back unless it is an emergency.

I took my cat Safari in to see dr. Prince it cost me over $200 for an exam and blood work for him to tell me nothing was wrong with my cat. I told him she was having problems with her ears and we had treated her for ear mites. she was losing weight and losing her hair I took her in for a second opinion to Carlton Veterinary in clinic I told them about my experience at Companion Pet Clinic that I had spent to her over $200 on blood work and the test results came back there was nothing wrong. Does that look in her ear that I could not see her eardrum and scheduled for her to go under anesthesia to further investigate the findings were my cat had polyps in her right here and they were cancer. This is my experience with Companion Pet Clinic if all the other veterinarians are closed you can use them as a last resort I rather go to a vet that has good experience and knowledge and knows what theyre doing then to have my cat suffer and have to bounce from vet to vet to get a diagnosis. My findings also are that Companion Pet Clinic is no longer reasonable and they charge just as much if not more for their services.

My dog Charlie is a yellow lab that is mostly white. He was born on Valentine’s Day in 2003 and thus is a senior citizen. My son has his mother and he and his three boys brought Charlie to me when he was almost three years old in November of 2005, the year my husband died. I tell you this so that you might appreciate the value this dog Charlie is to me. He sleeps with me every night. Companion Pet has been my vet since my arrival in Oregon in July of 2011. He has developed some serious problems known to labs – laryngeal paralysis and a malignant tumor on one of his lungs. Over the past year Companion Pet has assisted me with watchful care and recommended advance measures such as acupuncture and laser treatment. My Charlie is in amazing condition because of their care. He walks about 2 miles most days. I want the best possible care for this important member of my family. I am assured that I have it with Companion Pet of McMinnville, Oregon. They have truly prolonged Charlie’s life.
