Their prices are cheap, but you get what you pay for. I took my pregnant Boxer for an ultrasound and Dr. Bean ran it. He admitted to being out of practice with the machine, so I shouldnt really have been surprised when, having seen only 3 pups, she ended up having 9! That was the least of our problems, however. It was Dr. Kahl who ended up actually causing the most irreparable damage. We had two of the puppies with calcium deficiencies that we found out about the hard way. They each broke their right rear legs (in the same places and at the same time). Luckily we didnt realize one also had a break until a day later and were forced to seek another vet due to too short of notice for an appointment at Kindness. Long story short: the puppy taken to another vet (Rock Creek, run by Dave Barno - excellent, btw) was in and out of his single cast and completely healed in 3 weeks. The puppy treated by Dr. Kahl wasnt so lucky. She insisted on him being re-wrapped in mere bandages weekly. Even then the wrap was always placed so low that it gave him too much movement in the knee joint (to which Dr. Kahl actually said, "a little movement is ok"!!!) naturally resulting in a very slow and sloppy healing process. Even when I insisted she put an actual cast on she only hesitantly (and dishonestly) put on a sort of webbed netting beneath the bandage wrap. So, here we are after 6 weeks of treatment solely by Dr. Kahl, and we have a 5 month old puppy who will always have a leg slightly bowed in and that he favors/limps on and is unable to flex entirely because of the inexcusable ineptitude of a very stubborn vet. We did actually end up taking the pup to Dr. Barno to get him successfully healed up after Dr. Kahls botched work. We also took another of the puppies to Kindness with abdominal pain after ingesting some pebbles. When they took X-rays they stretched his front arms over his head so high they dislocated one and he couldnt walk for a couple days. This Dr. Kahl tried to make us believe was broken and subsequently shame us into believing was our fault and as much as accused us of abuse of our puppies. I found her attitude comical, however, as we spent thousands of dollars total caring for our poor puppies that they misdiagnosed and mishandled. I could go on, believe it or not, but Ill end it here as I feel this is damning enough evidence of their incompetence; specifically that of Dr. Kahl. I will say most the others were freindly. Only when Barbara Kahl had them thinking we were abusive for a short time did we notice a couple of the young office help snubbing us with their dirty looks and snide comments. All-in-all a pretty pitiful experience.

Our family has gone to Kindness Family Pet Clinic since it was opened by Dr Bean many years ago. Dr Bean was beyond exceptional and very much lived up to and exceeded the Kindness name. When it was announced that he was going to retire we were very sad and frankly scared that we would never be so lucky to find another vet that was even half as wonderful as Dr Bean. But I am happy to say that were wrong! Dr Kortyka has many of the qualities that we admired in Dr Bean. This is the highest compliment one could bestow. Dr Kortyka is very caring about his patients both the four and two legged ones! He is mindful of ones state both emotionally and financially. He was so sweet, caring and supportive when I had to have my red heeler put down. Its a pet owners worst nightmare and he was right there sharing in the suffering. I appreciated that he was open to talk about spirituality too. I love my dogs so much and I am totally confident that they will receive excellent care when I go to Kindness. Dr Kortyka also saved my moms chihuahua who is so precious to her. A year and a half ago he came very close to death because of a heart condition. Dr Kortyka was very honest and prepared us for the very strong possibility that Bart might not make it thru the day. But he saved Barts life to which we are extremely grateful. We also LOVE the girls in the office. Angie has become a good friend. She is an absolute jewel in her caring, knowledge and experience as is Paula. Kathy and Jen...all of them are so nice. I have only had good experiences with them. I appreciate everyone there and I am grateful to be able to take my loved ones to such a special place. Thank you to all of you. God bless. Sincerely, Barb L.

I recently brought my cat in to Kindness Family Pet and was very happy with the service provided there! I would highly recommend then! I have no children...so my pets are like my kids. Therefore, I am very concerned that they get the best care possible. When I found out my cat needed a dental, I chose to bring her to Kindness Family Pet as I have really appreciated their concern not only for using progressive medicine and equipment, but also the compassion and care of their staff. As I left her there at the clinic for her procedure, I could tell she was being very well attended to and I felt very comfortable that she was going to be given the best care possible. They did an excellent job keeping me updated on her progress throughout the day! This made me feel really good as I wasnt wondering how she was doing during her recovery there at the clinic. When I went to pick her up, Dr. Kortyka explained thoroughly how the dental prophy went. He also reviewed her dental x-rays with me. Since my cat is 12 years old and I understand the importance of dental care, I was very pleased to see her x-rays. Not only did her teeth look better, but I also can be confident that her roots are healthy below the gum line where I cant see! My cat has recovered very well and I am so happy I made the decision to have her teeth taken care of there! The staff at Kindness even called me the next day to see how my cat was recovering and if I had any concerns. I could tell they were genuinely concerned about her. My cat is much more comfortable and healthier since they cleaned her teeth...she seems to be much more active! Thank you so much for taking such good care of her Dr. Kortyka!!!!

I want to provide feedback on my recent visits to Kindness Family Pet Clinic in Forest Grove, OR. I am the caretaker and guardian to two older dogs – Gracie, age 12 ½ years Jack Russell Terrier, and Edie, a six year old Lhasa Apso. Both are rescues, so they each came to me with health issues. On July 8, 2014, I took Gracie in to see Dr. Darrin Kortyka for help with her itchy skin, arthritis and overall health concerns of older dogs. He checked Gracie over thoroughly, ran the appropriate blood tests and asked questions of me to help pinpoint a diagnosis and treatment plan. Within just a few days of starting her prescribed meds, Gracie was itch-free, calmer and more content. She also is more playful and walks easier. It is nice to see my girl enjoying her life again. Since then, on July 29, 2014, Edie had her turn visiting Kindness Family Pet Clinic and again, Dr. Kortyka. With his keen knowledge and extensive experience, was able to diagnose and treat Edie for a tear duct problem and help with her seasonal allergies. I have to thank Dr. Kortyka, his wife, Dr. Leah Story and the staff at Kindness Family Pet Clinic. Since Dr. Kortyka and Dr. Story purchased the practice in February 2013, the clinic has become like a second family to me and my dogs. The entire staff is extremely compassionate and easy to talk with. They always have my pet’s best interest in mind all awhile keeping me informed as to what is most cost effective. Overall, I am so grateful to Kindness Family Pet Clinic. Because of my personal experience with their service and how they value me and my dogs, I will go nowhere else for Gracie and Edie’s health care.
