Absolutely terrible experience with this vet. I had left another vet years ago and when my last pet cat, George, became ill with kidney disease we turned to Pittsburgh East Animal hospital. The female vet I dealt with, who has the bed side manner of a loan shark, basically gave us two suggestions: extremely expensive procedures, including a kidney transfer - which we could not afford - or euthanasia. Eventually, after a month of trying to help George we had him put to sleep. A few months later we adopted a kitten from the humane society, Rooney. We recently had Rooney de-clawed and upon taking him home he began to bleed profusely, so bad in fact that I was forced to take him to AVETS. Why did I have to take him to AVETS? Because Pittsburgh East Animal hospital closes at 2pm on Fridays, which was the day I picked him up. After spending $300 with Pittsburgh East Animal hospital I was forced to spend another $300 at AVETS to have Rooneys claws wrapped with bandages and given an antibiotic. There was blood literally all over the bathroom floor, kitchen floor, and on my carpets. I had a long talk with the vet on the phone and she informed me that it couldnt have been that bad and perhaps I should look for another vet if I was unhappy. She was defensive about every issue I brought up, almost like a petulant child. Now, what sort of business treats their customers this way? In the last 12 months I have spent over $1600 at this vets office. Thats more than I do for my own health care! Before taking Rooney to AVETS I called the vet and she said if I left at that exact moment they would quickly see Rooney before they closed. There was no way I could leave right then however, it would have taken me at least 15-20 minutes to get back to the vet, which they were not willing to wait for. So instead I was forced to turn to AVETS. I called the vet again the following day and expressed my unhappiness and asked for some type of credit on my account. I was willing to meet them half way, but instead I was informed today that there was no way they would credit my account. This is one of the worst vets I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. They are incredibly expensive and could not care less about me or my pet. Again, this vet has one of the worst personalities Ive ever seen for a doctor and as far as this office is concerned I was nothing more than ATM and thats it. Well, Im taking her advice and Rooney will definitely be seeing a different vet.

WOW! Where to begin with this place?! At the beginning I suppose. I have two cats, a 2 year old indoor/outdoor cat, and a 16 year old indoor cat. The 2 year old had developed a slightly swollen bottom lip and we had discovered a tick on the back of her neck, along with a few fleas. I was a bit freaked by this discovery! At the same time, my poor 16 year old cat developed some itching and scabbing around her neck and was in a general state of distress. We also discovered fleas on her. The flea thing was new to me, as I had never dealt with the problem having only an indoor cat. Needless to say, I got them an appointment straight away. The appointment was for 4:00pm. We were taken into a room, where both cats were looked over by a seemingly clueless tech/assistant, and were told that the Doctor was being delayed by a procedure in another room. The Doctor did not enter the room until well past 5:00pm. Strike one. She was loud, and very bombastic. We (my boyfriend included), barely got a word in edgewise, and when we did attempt to ask questions, she seemed annoyed and spoke in a rather condescending tone. More than anything, and to our surprise, she seemed little concerned with our reasons for bringing our cats in and was more concerned with running up a rather large bill. She didnt comb either one of them, in attempt to grasp the nature of the infestation. Didnt look at the spot where the tick was located. Didnt ask details of the tick removal process, or ease any fears associated with ticks, suggested we switch from plastic bowels to metal, and went on and on about Feline Leukemia. When we asked where we currently stood money wise, the Dr. chuckled and claimed she "would have no clue about charges." leaving it to the tech/assistant to attempt to figure it all out, which took a few tries. Add to all of this the fact that both the Dr. and the tech/assistant kept leaving and reentering the room. By the time we got out of the room, and the front desk got through fumbling with papers and prescriptions it was 6:20pm! We were left with significantly lighter pockets and no clear solutions to the issues our cats were/are having. I have always gone to Dr. Jones at the Plum Animal Hospital where I have always been met with respect, compassion, intelligence, courtesy and efficiency, and it was only out of convenience and schedule constraints that I went to Pittsburgh East Animal Hospital. What a huge mistake!

Dr. Pope and his staff are wonderful! Before moving to the area, our family vet that weve used for over 30 years was in McMurry, so we were soo upset to have to find a new vet for our furry babies, but needed somewhere close to rely on and in case of an emergency. Upon the recommendation of several friends - I took both of our pups to see Dr. Pope and get them established with local care. I could not be more happy and impressed with the level of professionalism and kindness that permeates from this place. The one thing I will say (which may seem negative to some people) is that Dr. Pope "tells it like it is"! He does not "sugar coat" if your pet needs treatment or if something is going to be difficult to watch your pet go through. I personally appreciate this kind of straightforwardness and obviously when it comes to your pet, you want to know ALL the facts. I highly recommend!

Sounds like Sharkie is an inferior vet from down the street. Dr. Pope and ALL his staff are great and caring professionals. They are treating my very ill Shih tzu, they have told us all our options and which they thought were they best for our pup. Prices were discussed with us but did not influence Dr. Popes medical suggestion since it was not the most costly one. Instead of us bringing our pup back every month Dr. Pope told us what symptoms to watch for an how to treat the symptoms, which saved us money. It must be tough to work with sick animals and Im glad that Pgh East Animal Hospital Doctors and staff are there for us.

I have been a client for many years meeting Dr. Pope when he first opened AVETS. Thanks Doc for choosing this area to be your home and practice. The staff at Pitt East is incredible, passionate and always supportive and helpful. Although most of my pets have been retired Police Work Dogs I recently had to say good bye to my 12 year Golden Retriever Rylee, the family pet. Thank you Dr. Dinger and the entire staff for your kindness and professionalism during this time. You guys are definitely a step above. I will definitely not hesitate to recommend Pittsburgh East Animal Hospital to any and all that inquire.
