June 7, 2017 I Posted this earlier today on the hospitals website/review & after about 10 minutes they took it down so I am reposting here! I dont normally write reviews but this hospital gave me one of the most horrific experiences in my life! This past Monday afternoon I came into the ER with excruciating head and ear pain as a result of some complications of a root canal (with an abscess) procedure done earlier in the day in this area. I am not from this area. I arrived sobbing and crying nearly hysterical. I couldnt even talk. I had never experienced this amount of pain in my life. I could only hand the registration person my drivers license and the paperwork from the root canal done earlier in the day. I begged and cried and pleaded for someone to help me for which ended up being a period of 2 1/2 hours. ... Registration lady told me she couldnt help me, "she just takes names". The nurse was cold and brutal and condescending and told me I needed to "wait my turn". I understand there were people ahead of me but nobody was sobbing and crying and begging for relief for the amount of pain I was in. Not that this would be acceptable either, but I felt like they were treating me as if an addict was trying to put on a show to get pain pills, it didnt make any sense to me why someone wouldnt want to help me or anyone as distraught as I was. It was so embarrassing for me to be behaving this way in public but the pain was so intense . I was just a normal 54-year-old woman in severe pain, in an unfamiliar Pittsburgh neighborhood that needed someone to listen to her and HELP her! Eventually a doctor came almost 3 hours later and gave me a nerve block and the pain began to alleviate. It was a barbaric! When I got home I laid my head on my husbands shoulder and cried some more, I felt so traumatized. I would NEVER recommend anyone walking through this Hospitals ER !!!

Every ones worst nightmare come true! My uncle who is 56 in his years, is a right leg amputee. He started a new anti depressant that caused him to have an off week. My aunt called 911 and the ambulance recommended him be evaluated for mental health. This hospital told my aunt she needed to 302 him because he did not want to stay. (not fully understanding she agreed) When my uncle found out he could not start the process to discharge he was extremely angry with my aunt. He broke a chair in the psych ward and told my aunt that he didnt want to see her. As a result she was having panic attacks herself (when she found out 302 meant my uncle is now prohibited to own guns) she signed herself into Westmoreland Behavioral health. This left my uncle no contact on the outside. hippa laws mean that when I called the nurses say "we cant confirm we have a patient by that name" They cut his current meds. and started him on something that has him all swelled up. I finally got my phone number to him and saw him. mentally he is fine, the problem is that they took the man apart and hes swollen so he is miserable and stuck in there. the staff is in their 30s and younger and think he is helpless and can not take care of himself. They are wrong! if he had his leg or crutches and did not have to ask for a chair to go to the restroom they would see he is up to full capacity! I will update this as it happens! They can make a horror movie from this called TRAPPED!

This hospital is updated from the outside but do not let that blind you. The incompetence of the staff and Dr. Are mind boggling. I am a registered nurse. It is pretty sad when you have to put critical skills in place and dictate care for someone who cannot. My grandmother hasnt urinated for over 24 hrs. I asked how many briefs did she wet( she not responsive no Foley and in for uti plus has a significant history of urinary retention). I received an answer of " thats not our practice). After demanding she bladder scanned at over 800cc- retaining. Another time she is breathing swallow but very frequent. I listened to her lungs ...filled with fluid again I had to demand vital signs her oxygen sat is at 85% ....this list can go on. Please if you value for loved one do not send them to this hospital. I cannot believe this place is still open now my lived one is suffering. I would give them a zero on this scale if it were possible.

This is the slowest possible hospital. In three days hit call light three times. Took 45 minutes the first time, over an hour the second. The third they took well over an hour and then shut off light. Said she would get the nurse, never happened. Was ready to discharge after getting all clear on chest x-ray. It took two hours for them to come get my daughter to get the x-ray . It has been over three hours waiting since then. They still have not looked at it. Funny how other two x-rays took under 30 minutes each time. Now that it is time to go they are taking forever, to get more money no doubt. This place is horrible. The one student nurse was to give a shot in the iv... We watched her miss somehow and squirt it all over the floor. She then just gave her the few drops left. Incompetence

Took my husband to the emergency room with neck pain. He was seen by the triage nurse who continued to play on his cell phone while taking my husbands blood pressure with an automatic machine. He then put us in the "fast track" waiting room. There was nobody else in the waiting area. We sat for over an hour. Watched the triage nurse play on his phone. Never once looked up to see were still there. My husband decided to leave as we were simply ignored by all the staff passing by. When we said we were leaving they asked he sign an AMA paper. They seemed totally shocked we were there. The nurse who had just started her shift apologized that they forgot us. They did offer to see him at that point. He declined. We went elsewhere.

If you got broken bones or Minor Injuries never go here. If your bones are broke they wrap you in a ace bandage and send you home. The "ER" on quote said to me: (We dont care, you need to call and schedule an appointment with an Orthopedic Surgeon.) They are totally unprofessional, severely understaffed and the ones that do work there have no manners, courtesy and or experience whether its respect for the public or doing a job the right way. You could go to St. Margarets off 28 and be taken care of 100% no questions or obscenities. If you choose this suicidal hospital ran by Mental Patients you need your head examined.

I just spent 6 days at AVH after entering through the emergency room. The care, hard work, dedication and compassion I received from each and every person during my stay was exceptional. The ER Doctors and Staff, the Nurses, CNAs, NAs, CT team, Lab, Dietary and Housekeeping were exceptional. I am so happy I chose AVH and put my health care in their hands. They have an exceptional team and I would choose AVH again. My husband and I have spent a few times in AVH and we have never had one complaint.
