Cheryl L. Sammons DVM WARNING: Review for South Franklin Animal Hospital in Franklin TN. After my adventure there I would give them a minus 10 rating. We rescued our dog Church 8/30/2014. Somehow this vet was involved in his care. Hannah Smith LVT suggests bloodwork along with his shots… so they “can really see what is going on” Cost will be $280 plus his heartworm medicine. I Mentioned that I didnt have that amount of cash with me that I would have to go home and get checkbook. I was there for monthly heartworm medicine which is $22 and a check of eyes and ears. Church goes with Hannah Smith LVT for lab work. Hannah Smith LVT had also tried to get me to sign up for a “plan” they had “just started” for X amount of dollars a month…..which sounded like a ploy to pay $50 a month plus medicine, to help pay their bills, when all I needed was $20 a month medicine. Plus my boyfriend was furious that they talked me into lab work by scaring me. I had called him crying, when Hannah Smith LVT took him back for exam. He said “please go back there and stop them and bring him home.” She eventually brings him back to me in exam room. Never did she say “go ahead and get your checkbook (so we can try to scam some more out of you) and he’ll be done when you get back.” ***Tag team match begins as vet Cheryl L. Sammons DMV appears and gives Church some kind of rawhide looking thing. I stopped her as she dropped it and said he is only allowed food as he has a sensitive stomach. Vet replies that it is good for his teeth as he has gingavitis. ***Every month that Church is groomed (not there) I was told by groomer that his teeth and gums are great for an older dog*** Now I realize vet did it was to make his gums bleed which they did and have never done before. She didnt give him any water, I now assume it’s because she wanted me to panic, watch him bleed then agree to a $357 dental cleaning. Meanwhile I am emotional at the thought of his bloodwork results. ***I have been through cancer myself along with my last two dogs, who didnt survive. I definitely had a nervous stomach.*** Cheryl L. Sammons DVM starts another sales pitch where the tech left off. The old fashioned up sell tactic. My shampoo wasnt “good enough” but the vets was. ***I didnt ask price, because my groomer never said my shampoo wasnt good enough.*** Vet says she put something in his ears and some drops in eyes. Church has never had tear stains so I did think the smell of wood fence may have irritated them. Her estimate is Church needed Phycox-Max soft chews for the gingavitis (that must have appeared since his last grooming?) for $55. Epi Optic Advanced $18. Mometamax for $33. -Gentocin Durafilm $38. They knew I didn’t have the money for all that and was told to come back when I did to pick those items up AND she added in a dental cleaning for $357. They thought they had a sale while telling me what I needed to do. ***She is still trying to close the sale. I explained that financially I could not spend $784.94 AND she gave up when I got teary eyed while still petrified of the bloodwork results. There is more that happened at the cashier desk and I was horrified at what the vet screamed at me in front of the waiting room. You can private message me for further info if you wish. So I have read the other negative comments about SFAH and wanted to share my own experience with them. We have been patients of SFAH since it opened. First, we began as boarding and then because of their exceptional care received, we became clients. We have had the privilege of having SFAH treat three different animals from puppies to geriatrics and continue to be more than pleased with their care. They have even cared for our fish when we have boarded our other animals. In addition to finding a veterinarian that is extremely well versed in her field, we have found someone that has always been honest. Several times I have inquired and requested lab tests for our animals because of my own concerns. Dr. Sammons has always been provided substantial reasons for either my not doing them or telling me to wait because the specific blood panels would be included in dental work; thereby avoiding my being double charged. When we have decided to order meds from Pet Meds for our animals, they have always provided the paperwork that we needed without any reservation. However, for the record, the flea/tick recommendations Dr. Sammons has personally recommended have always been superior and more affordable to the ones we have found online. Throughout the years, the staff has taken the time to get to know each one of our animals and their temperament. As an example, one of our animals has always been anxious to go to the vet. After careful observation, Dr. Sammons and the staff worked with her to point that she is now more relaxed during boarding, and she enjoys being at SFAH from the caring environment and loving staff. Dr. Sammons always answers every single question I ask with understanding and a desire to help our animals. She is easy to get a hold of and welcomes any concerns. There have even been times when she has stayed after hours to answer my questions. Regarding cost of services, SFAH fees seem to be well within the normal range of other vets in the area and even lower in many cases. Given their knowledge of current innovative services, they will recommend current courses of veterinary treatment. However, whenever I have chosen to decline or postpone services I am always greeted with understanding and professional manner. If you are looking for a well-educated veterinarian that utilizes the most current standards of veterinary medicine and repeatedly puts ethics above profit - then look no further than SFAH.

When this vet opening up and advertised light grooming we were excited. We took our dog there once for just a "face, tail and fanny" trim. They did a great job and we were pleased. When we picked him up I asked about more of a full groom and they said that they could do it no problem. I asked a price and they said approx. $30.00. This was a bargain compared to what we had been paying. A couple of months later we called to set up the appointment. When my husband picked him up and brought him home I was not happy. Our dog did not look like he had even had a trim! His ears were still very long and his hair still drooped over his eyes!!! Plus, they charged us $45.00! If I had known they were going to charge this we would have taken him to our usual groomer and been much more satisfied (we were just trying to go with someone closer to our home). In addition to the bad haircut they tried to sell us on a lot of procedures and services. I had made it clear, in a kind way, at our first visit that we were already established with a vet and were very happy with them. They have not listened to this once. Instead they gave us a list of procedures and prices. One of these included telling us that we needed to have his teeth cleaned, which we had done within the past 9-10 months. Our dog was scheduled for his annual visit at our regular vet this past week and he came through with a clean bill of health and the vet said he did not need his teeth cleaned. If you want an honest vet that isnt trying to sell you services to just make money then visit Cool Springs Animal Hospital. Even if you live in south Franklin, it is worth the drive.
