I recently moved to the area from Louisville and chose Providence Dental based on my insurance in network. My visit was not based on a referral or recommendation. The 6am text message on a Saturday morning reminding me of my appointment 4 days later was unappreciated and unnecessary. I am 45 years old, and I have been a patient at many dental practices over the years due to frequent job transfers/relocations. My initial impression upon arriving for my appointment was great - nice location, modern building/decor, and friendly receptionist. The fact I was asked to say "cheese" for a photo for their computer file was a first and quite strange to say the least. The beverage area needed attention and it was only 9am. Coffee but no cups? After about a 15 minute wait in the lobby, I was greeted by the hygienist and taken to the back. It is a large practice with tvs available to watch during your cleaning. As for the overall cleaning and exam, it was below average quality to say the least. The hygienist seemed rushed and barely polished my teeth, not to mention stabbed my tongue and gums repeatedly with the mouth vacuum. Very uncomfortable. This was my first visit, and I was amazed that neither the hygienist nor the dentist (Dr. LaFever) asked if I was having any issues, problems with my teeth or gums, etc. All they wanted to talk about was "whitening" and making my smile better. In fact, Dr. LaFever came in, said hello, talked to the hygienist for a few minutes, looked at my bitewing x-rays, and then said all looks good and we will see you again in 6 months. 5 mins max. He NEVER even looked into my mouth. That was a first. And I will NOT be returning in 6 months thats for sure. Every dentist I have ever been a patient of has ALWAYS looked around inside my mouth and checked things out, including doing an oral cancer check. Not here! Completely disappointed with my experience and lack of attention. I will not be returning to this practice again and will not be making any recommendations. I also did not appreciate being given multiple referral cards as I checked out. It seems their focus is on maximizing patient volume and upselling of additional services/charges versus thorough examination and quality-based care. I think the explanation for all the "positive" and "glowing" reviews might have something to do with the $50.00 account credit a patient receives when posting a recommendation.

Based on a recommendation from a friend and a local orthodontist staff member, I saw Dr. Gunnels and the Providence staff due to a minor dental emergency I experienced when a back tooth began breaking apart around a silver filling. My work schedule is super busy and they were able to work me in for the diagnostic and when they discovered I would need a crown they allowed me to be seen that day! Dr. Gunnels was super attentive and friendly and the assistants were top notch! Their work on the crown was meticulous and they even fit me in for a cleaning which was the best and most thorough Id ever had. The front office staff was beyond friendly, helpful and very efficient. The aesthetics of the clinic were also very pleasing. There were three separate waiting rooms - one for families with a large TV showing Disney movies, complete with toys and even a gaming side-room. Another basic and stylish room geared towards adults was adjacent to the family room and finally a quiet reading room which was set apart from the others. Each room was fashionably decorated and very comfortable. The aesthetics felt expensive but very warm and inviting. The aesthetics continued into the exam rooms with pretty artwork and televisions in each room. If I had one negative it would be the cost. To be fair, this was an emergency and I did not have time to shop around. I have not needed dental work for years so I do not know what average prices are today. Before we moved to this area, my previous dentist in Murfreesboro had discounted prices for those patients who were "self-pay"/without dental insurance. This office did not have that benefit and charged the same amount whether you have dental insurance or not. I do not know if I will continue to use this office due to the cost but I would definitely recommend this office for all your dental needs if price/ dental insurance is not a concern.

Bottom line: You MUST call Providence Dental Care. Im new to the Mt. Juliet area and needed a molar extracted (reluctantly). In pain and bad shape, I called Providence Dental Care early this past Monday morning and they were able to see me almost immediately. I was extremely worried about the idea of pulling a tooth and the whole process associated with it. Dr. Gunnels was AMAZING and put me at ease. He was absolutely understanding and explained every single detail associated with the process and potential risks. He gave me all the time I needed to process what I was going through. He was patient and took his time going at my pace. Rachel the RDA kept the conversation going and made me feel extremely comfortable during a difficult time. She was amazing as well and I cant thank her enough for getting me through the process. Im healing up now and have found my family dentist in Mount Juliet for good.

My husband and I moved to the Mount Juliet area last year and began our search to find doctors, dentists, etc. in the area. After visiting several other dentists, we feel pretty sure we have landed here. We both had a terrific first experience with our cleanings and exam this week. We were made to feel comfortable from the moment we walked in the door. They offered blankets if we were chilly and offered to change the channel on the personal tvs to anything we wanted to watch. We felt like we had a really positive experience the entire time. Not only that, but we didnt feel like they insisted on doing everything they could possibly do just because insurance covered it. I didnt truly need x-rays, so they didnt do them. I appreciate this as it saved me some time, and Im pleased to see its not all about money. We had a very positive experience, and it looks like we will return here again!

I was a patient of Dr. Lafevers for several years before I had to switch due to insurance. Unable to find anyone even half as good, I recently was able to become a patient of his once again. Although I do have to pay extra since hes not a "preferred provider" for my insurance, its well worth it for the quality of care received. Dr. Lafever (and his assistant Patsy) have seen me through a variety of dental issues - everything from routine fillings to an emergency root canal. Im now going through the process of an implant and although its a long, expensive ordeal, at least I can count on Dr. L to make me as comfortable as possible - he thoroughly explains all of his decisions, I never feel rushed and I never feel like Im being taken advantage of. If youre in search of a great dentist, I highly, highly recommend a visit to Providence Dental Care.
