Dr. Marc has done wonders to help my dog! It is difficult to find a doctor who is well-trained in Prolotherapy much less a veterinarian who uses this wonderful treatment modality. I saw firsthand how much Prolotherapy was able to help my human patients with damaged joints, stubborn arthritis, and ligament tears. When my dog tore his ACL I knew I didnt want to subject him to the reconstructive surgery for a second time. He had surgery to reconstruct his other knee 2 years ago and the results were okay but he still has pain. The recovery period for reconstructive surgery is quite lengthy and there is a significant risk of injuries to both the repaired knee and the other knee during the rehab process. I felt that Prolotherapy would give him a much less invasive procedure that would support his bodys healing process especially in combination with the acupuncture. We have just completed the fourth series of injections but I saw improvements from the very first round. There is now stability in his joint and he is able to walk and stand on it without significant pain. He spends much of his time in my office and even my patients remarked on how much happier he looked and how much easier he got around after that first session and he has just continued to improve each time. I am thrilled with his results. He had such good results with the newly injured knee that we also did a round of injections for his surgically-repaired knee to see if that will help reduce his pain there as well. I had already seen how acupuncture in combination with Prolotherapy worked in people and my experience with my dog has showed me that it works just as well in combination in animals as well. As a licensed acupuncturist I was impressed with Dr. Marcs knowledge of Acupuncture & Eastern Medical Theory. His staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him and his clinic for anyone seeking an alternative to traditional treatments that can be very hard on an animals body. The Nashville Community is lucky to have him, we drive 2 hours just to come see him.

I live outside the practice area, but found the website via Google Search. I was searching for holistic treatments used for Cushing’s Disease in dogs. My ten-year-old female schnauzer was put through a battery of tests last year (though asymptomatic) when pre-op blood tests indicated by one point the possibility she had the disease. Test results, however, were negative. A year later she’s exhibiting some of the symptoms of Cushing’s, and I’ve been in a quandary about how to proceed. The traditional drugs used to treat canine Cushing’s can produce severe side effects, and my poor girl has been through so much already because her immune system was compromised by a severe vaccine reaction when she was young. After reading that Dr. Smith uses lignans and melatonin to treat the disease, I used the website contact form and wrote him a very long email containing lots of background info and asked numerous questions. I feared I was imposing on him, but Dr. Smith was considerate enough to respond and answer me at length, for which I’m extremely grateful. He clarified that this treatment method is used for atypical Cushing’s, and he also wrote that the information I provided indicated my dog may be a candidate. He also mentioned some other herbal treatments that are helpful. I’ve been so worried about my dog’s condition, but very wary of exposing her to the potentially severe side effects of the traditional drugs given for canine Cushing’s. Dr. Smith’s insight and thoughtful reply to my long email gave me hope and lessened my stress. I will schedule an appointment for my dog with the only holistic veterinarian in my area. (If we lived in your area, you would have a new patient!) Thank you, thank you, Dr. Smith, and bless you! I am so glad Google found you for me. You were very kind to spend your time answering my email and sharing your expertise. Regards, Jaye Denman

2 weeks ago yesterday, I called Natchez Trace Veterinary Services and begged to see my old high school friend, Marc Smith, for an acupuncture treatment for my dog. She was in SEVERE pain and we had spent a wad of money to figure out what was wrong with her only to still have unanswered questions. It was being suggested to us by a specialist group in town that we agree to a very expensive MRI in order to diagnose our beloved 9-10 year old black lab with either a disk issue or a fatal tumor. We were of course devastated and lost about what to do. And unfortunately, the cost to go forward was quite a significant factor with an MRI and possibly surgery. It is a cost we would pay if we knew it would help her, but would it help? I hadnt seen Marc since high school when I walked my limping dog into see him 2 weeks ago today on Good Friday. I had never been in his office, but it was the first time I had ever seen my dog that relaxed in an animal clinic. Marc listened so completely as I explained where we were and while I asked all my questions. From him I got information that I could truly understand and truly use. He treated my dog with acupuncture and Vitamin B and she got up feeling better than she had felt in over a week. It was truly miraculous. We have had a total of 4 treatments so far and we are blown away by the recovery she is making. I appreciate Marcs use of both Eastern and Western medicine. I appreciate Marcs availability to answer questions. I also appreciate the office staff and their checking in via email with us to get updates on our dogs progress. My husband and I are so thankful for this incredible place and are so thankful that our dogs suffering has been so greatly reduced. I honestly cannot say enough positives about our experience. Thank you so much Marc!!!!!

My experience with Dr. Smith and his staff restored my faith in taking my dog to the vet. In fact, it was the caring attitude of one of his staff over the phone that first hooked us when we called their clinic. I became increasingly less satisfied with my previous vet, a place with whom I had done service for years and spent thousands of dollars. When my miniature schnauzer went through a rough experience following an extended stay at that same vet, they did not have on hand what was needed to treat him. They basically said they could not find it, and they wouldnt administer it even if I found it with another vet. I called around until I found someone who had what my dog needed and Natchez Trace Veterinary Services had the drug at their Franklin location. Dr. Smith even brought the drug to his other location because it was closer to where I live. In addition, Dr. Smith gave my wife and I a long consultation and good suggestions about how to treat my dog the first time we visited the clinic. I had grown accustomed to being run through an array of expensive tests when I felt certain they were not necessary. With Dr. Smith I did not feel that pressure. He had commonsense suggestions based on his experience and he treated my dog from that angle. In addition, Dr. Smith treated my other schnauzer who had developed pancreatitis, and based on a very simple natural diet which he suggested, I believe that is what brought her back. Dr. Smith has also been very kind to call in prescriptions without ordering further tests when its obvious that the dog is doing fine with the meds that he is on. In particular I appreciated his straightforward and honest approach: "If he were my dog I would do this…" I believe it when he says that and thats why I would recommend his services to anyone.
