Horrible experience!! First time I went, and I to wait 1 hour and a half to see the doctor, mind u that there was only a couple people before me, and the people who came after me as well, got to go in before me!! When I finally got in, I told the nurse I had to go to the bathroom, so she ignored that and kept asking me questions and entering info in the computer, so finally I said I have to go!! As soon as I opened the door to the bathroom door I noticed a strong smell of urine, and noticed some nasty streaks on the wall where the soap was. I almost puked. I proceeded to go back to my room, then the nurse took my temp, and I smelled something, dont know if it was from her hand or the temp stick, but it smelled like food, not good !! Mind u I have a keen sense of smell among other things !!! So ok finally the doc came in and I noticed she did not have a white doctors jacket on, only some scrubs and a light black jacket over it, she was very quiet and did not ask many questions or address my concerns, she did however prescribe a medicine of my migraine headache and did a self breast exam, she did not however clean my ears when she stated there was wax in my ears! So as I was finally leaving I noticed another odor, described as body odor by the window in the hallway. I finally left after being there 3 hours, went to pick up my migraine med and hurried home to take it, when I finally got home I noticed my migraine coming on cuz I was there so long without food ( because I had to take a physical) I took the med and it did not work, I then read the side effects and it stated that this medicine could not be taken longer than 5 days cuz of possible blood clotting or bleeding , especially if u have had bleeding in the past or any kind of hemoraging , or stomach problems, I had told her I had cancer and had hemoraging just awhile back, but yet prescribed these horrific pills!!!! Top it off I was so sick with my migraine and puking that day for hours and even that pill did not work!!! This was the worse experience of my life, and never did I experience such a horrible facility.

I read all the low scoring reviews and since this ER is only minutes from my home and I was driving myself, I decided to come here anyways. I am glad I did. I went in to the ER 2 days ago (it was a Sunday night ) around 7 pm for stomach pain. The nurses were all so nice and attentive. I waited 40 minutes from the time I stepped in the doors to see a doctor. That was very reasonable since it was on the weekend and all doctors offices and walk-in clinics were closed. The Dr apologize for the wait and examined me. Long story short I went in for a server stomach ache and now I am home, healthy, and without an appendix. The doctors, nurses, and staff were all very polite, friendly and intuitive. My Doctor told me my appendix was very infected and inflamed and very close to bursting. I am luck I went to a place that has the staff this facility does. I was at Saint Thomas last winter for other health issues and I think the care I got at Tristar is comparable to them (Saint Thomas is one of the highest rated hospitals). The only negative thing is I have to comment on is the company should budget for a little more money in the ER. The nurses seemed to struggle to find equipment that worked properly. It was not any critical equipment, only the portable vital sign machines, but small details that make a nurses job easier will make their care more effective. I was a CNA for 4 years and have some college education in the health field so I have a more educated outlook and sensitive eye to things of that nature. This is no fault of the staff. They are all well educated, trained properly and professional. I think this hospital is ran very well and that maybe the low scoring reviews are just people that are in too much pain to understand what is actually happening or have an unrealistic view of how an ER works. I would go back or take my family members back there if I ever find myself or family member in an emergency situation again. I am very grateful for the staff here!

Was seen in the SHMC ED for chest pain. The triage nurses did a fast and professional job on getting me in quickly, doing an immediate portable EKG and short history of current event and past medical history. However, after that I was put in a room and told to change into a hospital gown. Then some other medical personelle came in and made me leave the room and sit out on a bench right in front of the door to the waiting room. I was very scared, cold, and because I suffer from severe social anxiety disorder, I was traumatized by being put on display with many people around me. I was left there for at least half an hour and I think I was forgotten about. Eventually I was unable to maintain composure and told my husband to get me out of there. One of the nicer nurses that had checked me in came over and got me placed back in a room. A dr. came in and acted upset and stated that I was wasting his time, and that there were other patients that really needed help. I got dressed to leave...still having chest pain and weakness, generalized edema and possibly in congestive heart failure. I asked to be discharged and that same dr. did that without doing an exam. Billing attempted to get the bill lowered, and we paid as much as we could afford to. After 3 years I am still paying on this bill for services not rendered. I used to work as a nurse in this place, and would not suggest anyone to go to Southern Hills for any type of treatment except for the Rehab floor. Nursing and medical care for rehabilitation patients is adequate if not above average for most. Families and patients need to advocate for themselves if their level of care is inadequate, as they tend to send patients that are too acutely ill and should be either on the medical floor or in one of the units up to rehab too soon. This hosptial is not as good as it once was before staff cuts and general cost cutting of patient care.

I was in a head on accident on Thursday Oct 16, 2014 and was taken to Southern Hills Medical Center and I was left there 2 hours on a gurney with a neck brace and being in pain, I ask for some pain meds and never got it, still on that gurney and no one attending to me. Finally two metro cops show up to get a statement from on what happened and I told them that I was sitting at a red light in the right lane a car next to me and on the other side in the turning lane sat a redish looking honda of some kind and she push her gas pedal and headed straight for me and cause a head on crash, it was only her and I that was involved in this crash, I did not see another car. They told me that there was another car that hit the honda in the rear end and was pushed into me, if she was hit in the rear end, she should have hit the car that was sitting next to me and not me because they were up closer to the red light than I was. Next, they started to interrogate on how much have I had to drink today and how much drugs was I taking, I dont do drugs or drink, also as well trying to get me to say something that wasnt true to my knowledge about the car hitting the honda in the rear end, if that is what happen, it do so after I got there. As upset and in pain as I was they made it even worst, I took off the neck brace and walked out of the hospital and called my sister to come and get me and took me to my van to see the damage that was done, not a lot of damage, thank God I have a high profile van or else I might have been killed. To people who live in other counties than Davidson, I would say: stay out of Davidson county
