This is a very nice hospital. The ER doctors are not as compassionate as they should be and the nurse arent either. However, I was admitted and the nurses were awesome. I started out on the bone marrow floor which my room was the size of a master room in a house. It had a daybed, mini fridge, game systems, DVD player with movies and a huge bathroom. They ended up getting a bone marrow patient in and I had to give up my room. I was transferred to the womens(six floor). I was upset at first but ALL the nurses were AWESOME. The room was a lot smaller and only had a smaller daybed. They did however have a pantry on the floor that is accessible to patients and their family. Last but not least, the food at this hospital is awesome. Ive been in and out the hospital all my life and Ive never been in a hospital whos menu is 10 pages long. They have all types of cuisines. There kitchen is also open 24 hrs/7 days a week. So if for any reason you have to be hospitalized, I would definitely push to be admitted to UNC. The friendliness, cleanliness and not to mention the food makes being hospitalized a little easier. I hope this helps someone. God bless you!!

Went there for a dislocated knee... they took 4 hours total just to do a x-ray scan (which they didnt even show me), ask the same questions with 3 different doctors, and give me a cast that I didnt even know the price to. They said NOTHING about the costs or the procedures and I ended up with a bill that I didnt even know the meaning to. They didnt even do ANY treatment; I had to go home to apply and take medicine because they would not tell me what the costs were. Even more, I have the student insurance at UNC, and they barely covered anything even though I am a full-time undergrad. I have to pay hundreds of dollars for useless things, and they wouldnt even let me return the cast or crutches, which is ridiculous. I could buy way cheaper and better material (which I later did) and they literally avoided talking about the costs to bill me as much as possible. Ridiculous. The people were patronizing and unconcerned. Dont go here unless you really dont care about money, because they will charge you thousands for crap.

Not bad for a very busy teaching hospital. But Ive seen much better. Needs a lot of internal renovations, updating and general cleaning, though. Very difficult to find your way around. Poor signage. But staff is friendly and extremely helpful, which helps a lot. But for a teaching hospital the infrastructure is quite poor. It leaves patients feeling concerned about the overall practices and treatment. Many of the treatment areas I visited for my career gave me the impression that the hospital was backward and not up-to-date. Treatment rooms are shabby, badly maintained, messy, and the equipment is very outdated. Leaves one wondering about doctors and professionals who get their training here.

Worst hospital ever. All they are trying is to make money from insurance. I am healthy when I got admitted. They dint allow me to take food and said they need to do some biopsy which got scheduled after two days after my arrival. Then when I demanded the explanation for the delay they cancelled biopsy and said I have low sodium levels which they wanted to treat. If my sodium levels are low why dint they find it when I joined? Why did they concentrate on it when I demanded the explanation. Finally after three days of no activity they did ctscan, ultra sound and discharged saying you are good. This was the worst experience ever.

The mid wives are great, but the hospital and the post natal care is pretty poor. The floors of the birthing rooms are extremely sticky so you stick to the floor everytime you step. If you have gestational diabetes, make sure you check what IV they try to give you (we had someone try to give us a normal IV which would throw sugars off the charts). There was 1 lactation consultant that had good information while the rest offered 0 insight. The staff also do not appear to share information and we had 1 nurse try to forcefeed our child formula.

They saved my life. Everyone was excellent from the janitors to the doctors. I felt at home. My almost three week stay was wonderful. I had a large mass in my throat. They fix the problem. No else wanted to touch me. Im truly thankful for all the UNC workers.
