My review is in response to Mr and Mrs Stanton: I am a transplant from Michigan. I am the son of a veterinarian who owns a practice in the northern state. First, I have worked for my father (as has my sister who also resides now in Dallas) and speak with awareness on the price and cost For a multitude of reasons but primarily because it is medically responsible all dogs are prepped for surgery including blood work, etc. I would have questioned the doctor heavily had you arrived and the animal not been prepared for surgery after agreeing with the doctor that a spay would occur. What I want to highlight is the necessity of being accurate when evaluating cost and price to ensure a fair conclusion. The cost at SPCA is not $110. $110 is their price. The intention of the SPCA is to subsidize pet health care for individuals that cannot afford the standard rate to ensure all animals are humanely owned and not reproducing. In 2015 alone, (2016 990 has not been released yet), they received $182,705,546 in donations/grants. They only received $15,914,207 in payment from clients. Expenses totaled $190,082,947. What this means is in order to pay their bills for every $110 dollars they receive (such as from you), to supplement the true cost ASPCA must receive $1,313.86 in donations/grants. This is 12x what you paid in order to provide you the services. This is why to supplement anything ultimately is so expensive. My intention here is to illustrate how they have such a low price but to reiterate their costs are high. Dr. Riley has to work with a small staff and nowhere near the buying power to come up with costs that are a half/third in comparison to ASPCA to stay in business. This is the challenge for any business owner when competing with supplemented services. When you called the other places did they ask the question or did you bring up that your dog was already prepped at Dr. Riley’s or that you had just cancelled services with him due to price? If so one of the first things they may have done without being completely clear is inform you of a price that did not include prep work because they knew you didn’t need it. I cannot speak to that but I know that the pricing is aligned with my experiences based on the level of quality, the location, and the medical knowledge of Dr. Riley. The staff is kind, and compassionate. The location is clean and welcoming. The medical care is excellent. Thank you, From the Dad of Aviateur, Tank and Copper!

Pretty disappointed. I have been taking my dogs to this facility for several years. I have determined the costs for standard services are way outside the average costs for typical vet services. Today, on the day of my dog’s planned surgery, I received a call from the Dr. Riley that a spay for my 8 pound Yorkshire Terrier was going to be over $500 and that they needed to also remove some baby teeth (at an additional $500 cost). In response to this quote for costs, I contacted my local SPCA and found out that they would perform a standard spay for under 35 pound dog for $70, the additional dental work would be an additional $50. Sadly, when I picked up the Yorkie after finding out these costs. I was told that because the dog was prepped for surgery I would have to pay for the EKG (I requested this upon drop off) and blood work (standard at $85) that was already performed on the dog. The total cost would be $110. This response clearly told me this is not a place that I should be taking my dogs. Dont get price gouged, go somewhere else. At least they were nice about sending me my records to take my dogs elsewhere. To the Drs Comment - We actually did look at other Lakewood and Lake Highlands based vets, prices were averaging between $250 and $350 for the spay service. Also, I am not directly comparing the services to that of the SPCA, but more around the multiplier cost of what they do compared to the clinic. 7x times that the SPCA was my concern. Additionally, we actually donate to the SPCA every year, fantastic organization.

Weve been going to Lakewood Vet Center since we got our rescue puppy at only 3 weeks old. Shes over a year now, but Lakewood has been an important part of integrating her into our family. She loves visiting and we always leave with smiles on our faces. The staff is absolutely incredible, especially the front desk folks. They have gone out of their way to help us reduce costs where we can, stay on top of her vaccinations and have even emailed us shot records whenever we ask (for boarding purposes). We took our pup to the SPCA to get her spayed simply due to cost, and they were more than happy to check out her incision and help us with the follow-up care even though we used a different provider. I cannot say enough good things about this place. They love your pet and they always go out of their way to provide outstanding customer service. It is not about the money with them - its about being the best at what they do.

I visited Dr. Wright and team a few days ago regarding a concern for my cocker spaniel. Lola and her sibling Greta are both existing patients and fans of Dr. Wright. Lola is aging (13 years old) and was in need of a quick evaluation. I was very pleased to receive immediate attention from the office and a next day, convenient appointment was offered. From the first call for scheduling all they way through the evaluation, Dr. Wright and his team provided outstanding care and attention to my concerns and provided options for addressing my dear Lolas issues. I feel very satisfied by Dr. Wrights diagnosis as his prognosis put me at ease. I felt the team went above and beyond to address my concerns and ensure we received the best care. The entire experience was pleasant and efficient. Thank you Dr. Wright & Staff for taking great care of us!

I have been taking my pets( 2 dogs/cat) to Lakewood Veterinary Center and Dr. Wright for the last 7 years. I cannot speak highly enough of the care they have provided for our animals. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable. The clinic is very accommodating in regards to quick turnaround times for appointments. I cannot say enough about Dr. Wright. He is very easy going and a pleasure to deal with. He is very knowledgeable; my wife and I trust his decision and diagnosing capabilities very much. About 15 months ago we had to put our cat Hugo down as he was sick from chronic renal failure. This was a tough time for us. Dr. Wright and his staff we very compassionate and we appreciated everything they did at that time. I absolutely would recommend all of their services without reservation.

Cant say enough good things about Dr. Wright and his team. Our black lab, Bug, has had nothing but excellent care from them. His recommendation for pet insurance for our wild animal was SPOT ON as well -- within 2 years she had managed to blow out both ACLs which totaled about $8k in knee surgeries, nearly all of which was covered! All in all, Lakewood Veterinary Center is a place Id certainly recommend for care. The only word of caution is that its located in a busy shopping center with tiny parking places, so if you have a high-energy breed like ours then the journey to and from the car can be an adventure...
