Dr. Coangelo seems like a nice enough person, and his references were GREAT. Office manager treated me like a homeless person when I questioned paying for my entire 2 crown procedure up front (had already had a cleaning there and my insurance was verified and paid already, and this would be a 2 part procedure - first day, then crown installation in 2 weeks). I explained that my HCRA card could only cover the charge once, so if the amount changed it might be an issue. I offered to write a check for the full amount up front today and then they could charge the card before I left - leaving it with them during my procedure. Guy said, "I would run immediately down to the bank and cash your check before the procedure could begin." Really. I am completely flabbergasted. Have never been treated this way at any Drs office before. Instead of discussing my concerns about the office managers rudeness, the Dr. just said "I do not think you are a good fit for this practice. Im going to refer you to someone else local here." He essentially said they have plenty of patients without me. So, if you are looking for a dentist in Grapevine, I suggest that you consult with Huckabee Dental or The Grapevine Dentist instead - as he suggested to me. I lost an entire days pay since I took the day off of work. Do not make my mistake. _____ Update: Just left Huckabee Dental. The 2 teeth that were supposed to have cavities in the external exposed surfaces of crowned teeth had NO cavities in them! In fact, they looked exemplary on xray and the photo I was shown in Dr. Coangelos office was NOT of MY teeth! SO glad I got a second opinion. Dr, today also said that recrowning those 2 teeth for no good reason would have disturbed the root canals on those teeth, and could have resulted in me losing those teeth entirely over time. Insurance says that there was NO pre-estimate asked for or given to Grapevine Dental for anything other than the cleaning and xrays. Xrays were filed under a different last name and teeth were misnumbered too. Good grief. ____ Moral of the story: If you feel uncomfortable in ANY way at a dentist or other Drs office, get a second opinion. STAT.

Before I visited Grapevine Dental Care and Dr. Colangelo, I was visiting another Dentist in Grapevine twice a year since as early as I can remember. When changes came to my former Dentists practice that my family and I did not appreciate or find interest in, we decided to visit GDC after they were recommended to us by a family friend. My first ever visit was because I found a cavity in my canine and needed it taken care of. Upon arrival, Dr. Colangelo and his amazing, highly talented staff, discovered not just that cavity I found, but dozens in my mouth. Dozens left alone to grow and rot my teeth due to the incompetence of my former Dentist not taking care of them. I honestly didnt know what to do and I had been seeing a Dentist twice a year, always getting told my teeth were perfect, only to discover that they werent. . . Since then, Dr. Colangelo and his staff have done wonders for me. He has gone above and beyond to take care of me, not just by taking care of my teeth, but helping us financially through this time with advice and recommendations on insurance in order to better aid us through this period as they work to fix the rot my old Dentist left unchecked. His staff have been one of the best and brightest Ive come across, the ladies that work there are smart, funny, and amazingly talented. Dr. Colangelo himself is a credit to the practice and, honestly, one of the most respected Doctors Ive come across in my lifetime. To anyone reading this review, if the two-hundred plus 5-star reviews do not convince you to take your family or, simply, yourself to Grapevine Dental Care, at least take my word for it despite being some stranger. The man is a perfectionist, his staff are wonderful and talented, and his office is absolutely the most modern Dental practice youll find anywhere in the DFW metroplex. Take your teeth to Grapevine Dental Care and Dr. Colangelo. Hell ensure theyre perfect. I can promise you that.

Ill admit that even at my age, the idea of going to a dentist still kind of scares me, so when I think of a -good- dentist, Im really thinking of a quick and painless experience (pleasepleaseplease) and friendly staff. I kid you not, every time I walk in, theres people there who know me by my name and are already up and out of their chair telling the dentists that Im here before I even get the opportunity to walk up to the counter. I think thats pretty rad. Means I can just take my time to sit down and read up on who wore what dress best on the red carpet. Or I can read some rolling stones and pretend I know things about rock music, if Im feeling particularly sassy that day. Anyway, the dental assistants/hygienists, are always super friendly - they remember conversations weve had six months ago(!!!) when I was there for my last appointment, and they always seem genuinely interested in listening to me and making sure Im comfortable. Theyre great. I genuinely feel bad for breathing my post-work coffee breath on them. Dr. Colangelo, by the way, is also super nice. Poor guy seems like hes constantly in and out, but he never makes it seem like hes in a hurry, and always does a thorough job with checking and making sure youre doing okay. The cleaning and filling doesnt hurt at all, by the way. Id be the first one to tell you if it did, because the idea of sharp-ish objects in my mouth is one that generally makes me want to scream like homer simpson, but I think between the friendly banter I have going on with my hygienist and how skilled she is, I never really feel a thing. By the way, theyre super speedy (in a good way). I was in and out in like... half an hour. Compared to the hour and a half Ive had to wait just to see my primary care physician, this is a godsend. A+.

By the time I reached Dr. Colangelo’s office, I was convinced the majority of dentists had questionable ethics. I had been to one dentist who left me feeling like they used a jackhammer to clean my teeth. A second dentist who kept finding things wrong and reasons for me to return, even when a second opinion showed nothing wrong. A third dentist wanted to replace work just because he liked a different solution better than the one that was currently in place and he attempted to collect above the contracted insurance rate. Having had three bad dental experiences, I spent extensive time researching my fourth attempt. I’ve been seeing Dr. Colangelo for two years. During that time I’ve had two issues that needed treating outside of normal cleanings. Both times the problems were resolved without major expensive. From my experience, instead of starting with the most expensive (potentially overkill option) he chooses a treatment that works and doesn’t leave me with a huge expense. I like this conservative treatment approach. Not only does it work, it leaves me not feeling like extra work was done for the sake of collecting money. I’ve been very happy with the dental hygienists who work for Dr. Colangelo. They do a very good job and are careful with their cleaning. The staff overall is friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve had no billing or insurance issues. Everything has been handled in a professional manner. After two years, I have no complaints with this office and am in fact, quite happy with them. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an experienced dentist that not going to perform unnecessary procedures for the sake of making more money.
