Although I have never been a patient of. Dr. P, I will say this: Hes not very friendly. Im sure his clinic is really good and I expect that because he comes from a family of excellent individuals, including his father who was one of the first black students to attend UT dental School here in Houston. I talked with Dr. P on the phone once because I was looking for a dental clinic to do some shadowing. I would like to go to dental school some day and shadowing is one of those requirements. After doing some research of some dental clinics in the area and after getting some positive feedback from other individuals, including reviews such as this one, I decided to contact the office and ask about potentially shadowing. I sent the office a letter of intent and my resume. I explained to them how excited I am about the field of dentistry and how I am eager to learn from one of Houstons finest. I called the office after not hearing back from them after a couple of weeks. The lady that answered the phone, was really nice and respectful to me. I explained to her my intentions and that I sent the office my resume, she did confirm that they received the items. Although she informed me that they dont really do any shadowing she did however put Dr. P on the phone, thinking that maybe I could convince him. I understand that he is a busy man, so I didnt want to waste his time. I got straight to the point. Even though I was in school a couple of days a week, the days I wasnt were excellent for me to come in. Dr. P did not sound interested in helping me at all, in fact he told me that he had a temporary opening for a social media coordinator because the person that currently had that job was going on maternity leave. I explained to him that even though that was something that I was fully capable of doing, I did have school. Being desperate for some dental experience, and to just be around someone of such prestige, I explained my availability. He was no longer interested, even though I explained my original intentions of shadowing and asked if he could please look over my resume and to feel free to contact me if he had any further questions. He told me he would not, told me to have a nice day and hung up the phone. Frustrated, I called the clinic back and the nice lady who answered the phone answered again. I asked her if she knew of any black dentists in the area that I could contact to which she proudly stated that we are a black dentist. I told her that Dr. P was very rude to me over the phone and that he was not interested in helping black students, or any students for that matter. She aplogized for his rudeness and I informed her that its not her fault that he is not interested in helping his community. She then gave me a few names of other black dentists in the area who I could contact. Im not writing this to discourage anyone from going to his clinic, in fact I would like to see him succeed and continue to get business (because based on the conversation we had, thats all hes really interested in anyway). I believe he is truly great at what he does and his staff seems to have very good people skills. I wrote this because I want people to see what kind of person he really is.

I hated this place and heres why.....when I walked in the smell almost knocked me out...it smelled like a nursing home. Once I was able to get past the smell, the staff greeted me (all of them where great by the way) and handewd me paperwork to fill out. Once I sat down I looked around and felt like I was in a time machine and was transported to the 1980s. Everything was very old and outdated. It looked as if it still had all of the original stuff from when it opened 60 years ago! The TV was too small as well. I had to squint to see it. The wait wasnt that long but when I got put in a room I couldnt believe how old and rusted the equipment was! I know this office makes plenty of profit so why havent things been updated? After I sat down the dentist came in and greeted us. He seemed very knowledgeable but he was very arrogant and rude to his staff. I watched him yell at and belittle one of his interns! He seemed very bothered by questions and seemed to be very aggravated when answering them. He talked to me as if he was superior and I was the help.I didnt appreciate it at all and after sitting in a room for 2 hours he didnt accomplish anything! I didnt even get the cleaning I came for! Needless to say..I was very much dissatisfied. I have another appointment and Im seriously thinking about not going because of the horrible experience. If u are considering this place...dont! Dont waste your time or money on a place that doesnt even care enough about their business to upgrade it.

They were able to do to root canals that two other specialist said could not be done! Dr. Poindexter shoots you straight every time and cares about the patient and not just the $. Dont get me wrong, these kind of procedures are not cheap but he makes me feel like I am getting a much better deal and that Im in better hands than anywhere else Ive been. He did my last two root canals and crowns last year and I havent had zero problems, but I had gotten a new HMO that made me go to a place on the north side where I live at first. Now I would rather not use my HMO insurance and travel an hour south to see him even from my regular cleanings. He teaches his staff well and they all work hard to be well-informed, unlike the last dentist I went to where every time I got a different person I got a different price and a different answer on whether something could be done, they even made me pay upfront for a root canal they guaranteed me they could do and then when I got there for the third time to actually do it they said they couldnt. Then, they kept trying to convince me to have a different procedure done that they recommended when these two teeth that Dr. Poindexter is taking care of were obviously the most important task at hand since they were causing me pain.

I came in 2 days ago in agonizing pain. Was referred by another dentist who just didnt have the technology to approve my insurance. What kinda outfit is that???!!! Anyway the paperwork is long and daunting, but with the awesomely beautiful staff and the not so long waiting time, this experience was excellent. Dr. Poindexter is very professional as I would expect. Yes, he is concrete and stern with his interns but anyone who works in a medical environment understands the reasoning behind that. Peoples lives and his reputation is on the line. Yes the place could use some updating. But I wasnt there for the decor. His entire staff I thought was very knowledgeable and showed more than general concern for me and other patients. I felt that Dr. Poindexter was as efficient as his practice and scheduling would permit him to be. Pricing is where you would expect but emergency dental work isnt cheap by any means. Now that I know theres a payment plan, I will opt for that on my next follow up visit. Dr. Poindexter and his staff get 6 stars from me and i wish him a long and prosperous career.
