In 2010 I went to Dr. Krutsinger at River Oaks Vision on West Gray in Houston and had a thorough, informative and completely positive experience receiving an eye exam and my first pair of glasses (welcome to your 40s!) This week I returned, four years later, as I have had additional health issues recently that required an updated eye exam. Dr. Krutsinger was no longer there, and I was seen by Dr. Montanya instead. It was HORRIBLE. Over the course of my basic eye exam he was completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and aggressive. Complaining that I had not opted for the $40 eye-imaging photographs but chose the "old school" eye-dilation exam instead, he bullied me into getting the photos saying he needed them to do a good exam and scolding me for not ordering them initially. I was startled and explained I did not know they were so important; I had simply opted out of an additional expense. Shortly thereafter, having put several series of drops in my now streaming eyes, I asked for another tissue to wipe my face. Dr. Montanya plucked a tissue from the box but held it out of my reach, saying "It is .25 cents a sheet - I can put it on your bill!" As I was at that point in a small room alone with him, the door closed, with my vision altered, and semi-blocked in the exam chair by the equipment, his behavior was both mocking and abusive. As he gave the vision exam, instructing me to read the line of letters and to tell him whether the different lenses were "the same or different" at one point I responded "I cant see them either way." At this he raised his voice and exclaimed at me, "I said say same or different! Same or different! Not that! Say same or different! Thats what I told you!" There is no situation I can imagine where it is appropriate for a doctor to reprimand a patient; it is, again, threatening and bullying. I am reporting him to the management at River Oaks Vision and to the professional licensing board. Please beware.

Dr. Krutsinger is difficult to deal with and rude. I had my house broken into and among the stolen items were my new boxes of contacts. I explained this to his office when I ordered new ones. I then tried to order more online (cheaper- and to replace the stolen ones) and his office gave me a horrible time. First they told the online store that my prescription was expired (it was not) then they filled out the form incorrectly (in an area that said check only one box they checked expired then crossed it out) and they added an arbitrary and incorrect expiration date. On top of the unacceptable lack of service (throwing up road blocks) they were very rude. Dr. Krutsinger told me to get a new Dr. and hung up on me.

Dr. Wallace was a blast! I got a last minute appointment to get fitted for contacts for a trip. The appointment went well and I did my annual exam too. No more dilation! I love their new machine. He recommended the right contacts for what I was looking to use them for and gave me some trial pairs. Very happy with this place. Its my third time here and Ill be back again.
