This center put me $3,000 in debt and accomplished absolutely nothing. I have average-ranged health insurance, but like most personal plans (Im a student and have to buy my own), I still have to deal with a high deductible long before it starts to pay off. I went in afraid that my extreme pains were something serious, and it was the weekend so I wouldnt get to see a specialist soon. Get this: They dont charge you for individual tests, x rays, and doctor visits. They simply charge you for the "type" of pain youre having. They are another example of millions of how peasant Americans are being destroyed by wild west healthcare. They can charge you literally WHATEVER they want, and unlike every other business in existence, they wont tell you WHAT theyre charging you until AFTER "treatment." So they ran their tests, took the x-rays, gave me a TWO-DOLLAR BOTTLE of medicine, and sent me on my way. Seriously. They gave me a bottle of medicine of which I can get the EXACT same at an over-the-counter pharmacy for literally $2. Unsurprisingly, the medicine wasnt a cure, and worse still, when I saw a specialist a few weeks later to try and identify and treat whatever was wrong with me, that specialist told me that they lied to me. I made them send over the x-rays that they took to his office, and he said that there definitely was not "a blockage" like they said. It wasnt even a misdiagnosis. There was absolutely no reason for them to even think that. Perhaps if they put whatever diagnosis on there, people are less likely to question or contest their sky high bills. Oh and lastly, I just got ANOTHER bill from them. The doctor that saw me for literally 10 minutes. Im not being hyperbolic. I talked to this doctor for no more than 10 minutes. I now owe him $700. For 10 minutes. He didnt diagnose me. He didnt treat me in any way shape or form. He said, "Drink more water and eat more plants." Well gee whiz doc! I never thought of that. I definitely didnt try everything I could before I ended up in the hospital with excruciating pain. $700. I even called and asked for an itemized receipt for this bill. No items to it, I was told. When I pointed out that this doctor spoke to me for 10 minutes, guess what the representative said: "The doctor doesnt charge by time. He charges you by the type of pain youre having." Imagine if you took your car to an auto shop for repair. Theyre not going to tell you ahead of time what the repair will cost. Theyre not even going to charge you for time and replacement parts. Theyre going to charge you based on the type of sound its making. And if their repairs are dead wrong or dont work, well too bad! Heres your bill for thousands of dollars. We take credit cards.

Bottom line - very good experience. Everyone we interacted with there was friendly, approachable, empathetic, and reasonably responsive. We came to San Marcos from Houston, so Houston is always our fall-back. Our experiences at CTMC have strengthened our feelings about the competency and compassion of local providers. We feel fortunate to be so close to quality care. The main area for improvement that we encountered was that the actual versus scheduled surgery time was 2 1/2 hours later. Since these are all scheduled, known scope surgeries, we asked several people why the big miss when we finally did get wheeled from place to place, prior to surgery. Nurses in prep room said they usually always ran behind / longer than scheduled; delays were commonplace. Anesthesiologist said the surgeon didnt schedule enough time for the full scope of surgery required. Surgeon said the hospital did all the scheduling based on the surgical description and never allowed enough total time for each surgery. Dont know who has the right story, but Im inclined to believe the surgeon.....and should be improved upon. The last interesting event was our experience in the recovery room for out-patient surgery. My wife was weak and having severe nausea every time she tried to rise up in the bed for several hours after surgery. When I was first brought in, sometime after 5:30 pm, one of the recovery room nurses told me if she cant drink anything, get up off the bed, and stand-up, she wont be going home tonight. With no change in her condition several hours later, around 8:15 pm, he was telling me that he wouldnt be able to get a doctor to admit her to the hospital if she only had nausea and was too weak to get up off the bed. Really? It appeared to me the first threat was to get us going to force feed ice and water, and the later threat was to get us up and out the door. Another nurse gave my wife a patch for the nausea so by 9:40 pm or so, we were able to wheel her to the car. Wasnt easy for me to get her from the car to the house, but we managed. We really wanted to be home that night too, otherwise we would have dug in for an overnight stay...but who really wants to stay at the hospital longer than they have to? Not us, even if everyones nice....which they all were, even while getting us to the door.

On may 9 I was taken to the er by ambulance I had a miscarriage I was bleeding heavy and it was the first miscarriage I had so I was freaking out, well when I arrived they put an iv in the nurse took all my info and told me the dr will be in soon. It took for ever for ever for someone to come I was in so much pain my husband went to go tell the nurse and she just came in to give me pads not pain medicine, my husband asked if they can call a chaplain or someone we could talk to about our loss the nurse just said yes but again never cared she never called anyone. Finally after an hour someone finally came in some lady I wish I could remember her name she was so rude!!! Kept telling me negative things like why didnt I take the abortion pill!!! How many pads had I soaked and when I told her she didnt even believe me, on the board had it said dr Gregory was there but I guess he was to busy to go see me. The ultrasound lady was so kind and understanding she gave me her condolences and told me everything would be okay she had been through the same thing. Everyone else was the worst I was so disappointed in the level of service with this place I had even passed the gestational sack and everything and the nurse told me just to throw it away that I couldnt keep it SERIOUSLY WHO SAYS THAT!!! That it was a living baby that it was my child who are they to say to through away!!! I was so mad I told her to take my iv out and discharge me that minute she was so disrespectful. Please do not go to this place I recommend resolute in new braunfels or seton in Kyle!!! Update: I did contact the patient advocate about this issue and the level of service I had, the lady I spoke with was so nice and assured me this issue would be going to the director she was able to figure out the exact names of the people that sow me that day. Thank you to the patient advocate person for caring I hope this issue NEVER HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ELSE
