Very nice, upscale looking hospital. I had major back surgery there and stayed 2 days. The food looked very good but I wasnt hungry. The staff was hit or miss, not consistently excellent as Id expect from the upscale appearance and location in one of the best neighborhoods in Austin. But the care was competent. However, a week after surgery, I received a phone call from some man who said he was doing a "patient satisfaction survey" for the hospital. Admittedly, I was a bit crabby with him, since I was still in pain from surgery and in a hurry to get to an appointment. But he should have been trained to deal with that, since it is well-known that crabbiness is a typical sign of pain. Instead, he was very rude, patronizing, condescending and even insulting. For example, there was the matter of my name...lets say my legal first name is "Elizabeth", and he calls me that, and I say (in a neutral tone), "Please call me Beth." He replies, "Well, BETH..." and I could literally hear the sneer in his voice! Hey folks, the LAST thing any patient needs after a very painful major surgery--while they are struggling to recover--is some rude person calling them from the hospital and insulting them and making them feel worse! Westlake Hospital, if youre going to have your people call patients, please TRAIN them in customer service and manners!

Had been looking forward to visiting this facility if the need arose and it did. We went in for a non-emergency but our son needed medical attention in the off hours so we headed over there early in the morning and what a disappointment. The plus, of course, is that there is no wait. The registration and welcome was quick and we were in right away. We had Dr. Passmann who listened partially to the situation and then named off 5 tests that he wanted to run....$$$. His bedside manner was impersonal and one of distraction. We agreed to start off with the basics and then go from there. As we proceeded it was obvious that the gamut he wanted was not at all necessary and that if he had listened to the explanation given upon admission, he would have realized that a few of those $$$$ making orders were not at all necessary to the patients treatment. Furthermore as we sat there in our curtained room, we listened to the entire staff discuss two different patients who had been in recently - one of which had come in, died, was shocked, came back, went "under arrest" again and then they shocked her again. We heard all the details from the phone calls prior to the release. Highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Such a nice little facility but did not give us a whole lot of confidence that best interest of the patient came first.

I would highly discourage anyone from using the ER here. I took my son in the middle of the night for a severe asthma attack. The care was adequate, but they forgot to give me my drivers license and insurance card back when we left. I didnt realize this for a few days and then had to drive back to pick it up. I only mention this, because they later claimed that I never gave them any information. As if they would have seen my son and let me leave without asking for that stuff. They didnt bother to file with my insurance until over 6 months after the date of service, at which point it was declined because they are supposed to do it within 90 days. I had an awful time trying to get a hold of anyone there to talk to about this, and when I finally did, the man in the business office was rude, dismissive, and basically called me a liar. So I will pay the several hundred dollar bill that should have been covered by my insurance because I really have no recourse, but I will know better than to ever go here again.

This facility has changed a lot over the years. I still hold the hospital in high regards however not one of the doctors. The doctors here are primarly contract workers especially the male doctor I believe Dr. Brinen however you spell his name quick talker however puts his interest ahead of his patients. I was told by the very friendly nurses and by him to take a few days off. Then when I requested a simple doctors note he refused to write one. Its discerning being a West Lake Hills resident and having the local ER taken over by subpar contract workers. A urine anylsis here from what I overheard is like a trip to see a probation officer. Better bring a full transcript of every prescription drug you have ever been prescribed. Lol. The nurse manager bumbed this review from a 2 star to 4 star. Thanks Nick

I was given a wrong/ineffective dose of an antiviral when I presented with early shingles outbreak on my eye and face. The drug was also prescribed a first generation drug that was less effective than others on the market. The doctors do not know what they are doing. This ER is not busy for a reason. Better to wait and get proper treatment. I now have a full blown outbreak of shingles on my face and eye with possible complications - blindness and permanent scarring. All this because the ER doctor does not know the right drug to prescribe of the proper dose. She had me on 200mg when 800mg is the proper does!!

This hospital is wonderful. The staff is fantastic, professional and very attentive. The size of this hospital is small, which is one of the parts I liked best. You get a special level of care from this facility and staff. It has more of a home feel than hospital feel. The grounds are beautiful and the coy pond is stunning. My friend has had two heart procedures at Westlake Hospital and both experiences have been nothing short of excellent. I stayed with my friend overnight and the staff made me feel very welcomed.

The place is wonderful, very upscale. The food is good (according to my mom and husband who actually ate anything during my stay), the staff was wonderful as well as the services the doctor provided. I traveled to Austin from New Mexico to get a cardiac ablation, I had no idea what to expect. Even with the scary procedure I had done, I had a wonderful stay with caring staff. Im still dealing with the hospital about my billing, so I may have to edit this review, but I really hope not.

Really frustrated and wont be going here. I called to try and see if this was where we should take my husband. The front desk said she cannot give me a medical diagnosis which I was in no way asking for. Next I asked if they took our insurance and she wouldnt tell me, she also wouldnt even tell me where there pricing started. Very frustrating and I would have loved a little more compassion and more helpful information especially when Im so concerned for my husband.

I received exceptional care while I was at Westlake Hospital. The nurses and my doctor were fabulous! However, most of us have deductibles that have to be met. I became disabled and month to month, the billing dept. called and asked for larger payments to be made. You would think living in the U.S. that something would be available to assist us in these monstrous bills.
