I HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND COMING HERE. I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE. I have two review about this hospital and I havent return ever since. My brother was admitted here when he was 6 months since he has muscle was turning black around his eyes. At first it was light purple to black the night we went, and they found nothing in his blood and thought it was allergic reaction to milk. My mother knew something bite my brother eye like insect. She beg for more test but they couldnt do anything else. They were discharged that night. My mother in her heart believe it wasnt that. We went to pediatric first thing in the morning and his skin was completely black around his eyes. Immediately our pediatric call 911 and told my mother that he shouldnt been discharged and this was serious. My mother ask if we could go to Fairfax. Fairfax Hospital save his life. He was in the hospital for 3 months. He had infection in his blood and the test clearly show high white blood count and low red blood count. My rating was in 2012. I was having lower back pain for two week than it quick came around the side. I thought it was because I was doing sport. I was doing cheerleading and gymnastic. Then I couldnt go to the bathroom, and my pain grew strong by the day. One day, July 27, I woke up in pain like a truck hit me. I couldnt move and crying in pain. My mother was out of town and my father was working. So my brother babysitter took me to the hospital. Here where it get really bad. They say I couldnt be admitted without my parents consent. I could barely move that they had carry me in. So I had to wait, they got me in after 30 mins. I was crying out of pain and was feeling numb. It took two hour before a doctor and nurse can see me. they took urine and blood test and clearly they say it was normal. I kept telling them that the meds they were giving me didnt help and crying. They diagnosis me with UTI. and Send me home. It took 6 hour for that and send me home with meds. They say they didnt have time to do Cat Scan or X-ray to see my internal organs. So I stop fighting with them and went home. I didnt take the meds they give me so I know it wasnt that. The next day, I was vomiting blood and couldnt move. My mother took me to Fairfax Hospital, and the emergency room got me in quick since I vomit blood. The doctor and nurse came quick and diagnosis me with Rupture Appendix. They were wondering why they diagnosis me with UTI. When clearly my blood test had high white blood count and no sign of UTI. They say its good thing you came to us today or you would have die. NEVER AGAIN I GO TO MOUNT VERNON I NEVER WILL GO TO MOUNT VERNON HOSPITAL AGAIN. I COULD OF DIE. EVEN MY BROTHER. THEY DONT CARE AT ALL. I HAD MISS MY SPORT FOR HIGH SCHOOL SINCE I WAS IN TREATMENT FOR 2 MONTHS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.

So, a real mixed experience. Pros: My Dad was admitted via the ER. The ER visit was good, professional, and efficient. The nurses on the floor he was roomed were knowledgeable, professional, kind, and helpful. Mt. Vernon offers a good selection of food on their menu. Cons: While they did do a good job addressing the initial health issue, he developed significant abdominal pain when sitting up. A CT was ordered and was inconclusive; the doc wanted to release him. I said no, with the significant pain they needed to find out what it was before discharge. Next, my Dad is a diabetic and most often he was given a high carb food tray. Why? I told the nurses and the food service department that they need to make notes if a patient is on a specific diet and ensure the proper food is given; I was told they do. One meal they had for him was a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. NO! Today, it was a large plate of spaghetti and chocolate chip cookies??!! Well, his blood sugar numbers were too high for him to be discharged today. Do you think its because of the food your giving him? Please fix this.

I COULD HAVE DIED! I was taken by ambulance to this emergency room. This hospital had a friendly staff, very nice people. HOWEVER, I COULD HAVE DIED as a result of their missed diagnosis. I told them all of my symptoms and they checked my blood and urine and sent me home with medicine to treat a stomach bug. After several hours of gradually getting worse I went to another hospital, who conducted a simple 5-minute scan and figured out that my appendix was about to burst. They immediately admitted me and scheduled me for an emergency appendectomy. Had I followed the instructions given to me by Mount Vernon I COULD HAVE DIED! Lucky for me I have a persistent wife who always seeks second opinions, and insisted that I go to another hospital. Not only will I avoid this hospital at all costs, my family and I will soon be moving closer to the other hospital (I NOVA Fair Oaks) that provided me with knowledgeable and immediate care that saved my life. Did I mention that Mount Vernon has a nice staff?

I took my 7 year old daughter today because she was having difficulty breathing. She was triaged and placed in a room quickly which was great. We then proceeded to wait 40-45 minutes to be seen by someone. They nurses were more concerned with their conversations about their vacation and schedule. At one point a nurse walked by and said Oh I didnt know we had people on this side. Needless to say I was extremely frustrated and called her primary and took her there immediately. The lack of urgency was rediculous. Not one person cared that a little girl was panicking and struggling to get a full breath. I left a message after leaving with the Nurse Manager and still have yet to hear back. Mount Vernon is 1 mile from my home. This is not the first time I have had an issue with Mount Vernon but it will certainly be the last! A new multi million dollar ER for the community and the lack of care and compassion is lost.
