My Husband was in agonizing pain- I had to call 911 and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Once dropped off we sat in a hallway where he was laid in a bed because he was in so much pain he could not move- so much pain that he was screaming! Screaming, crying and sweating which my husband does not do (cry)! We were told that he was going to be put into a room which was empty at the time that we got there BUT after waiting about 30mins once dropped off I couldnt take hearing him in pain any longer so asked a nurse at a desk what was taking so long, the room is empty and my husband really needs pain medication, we have been registered and are still in the hallway and havent been seen-mind you, you can hear my husband screaming!! She says nothing so I walk away. About 15mins later they put someone else in the room that my Husband was supposed to be moved into!!!! Someone that is NOT screaming in pain. Of course that tips me over the edge bc I have been listening to my husband SCREAM and cry for now over an hour!!! I go back up to the counter repeat what I said before and also tell her that I do NOT care if he has a room or not at this point he just NEEDS pain med!!!! She understands why im upset and gets a doctor who says we will be with us as soon as he can. We keep waiting, finally a nurse named April who checked us in comes back to check on us. When she realizes nothing has been done she gets my Husband a hospital bracelet and starts an IV so that he could at least get pain meds asap. After she had gotten the IV in which took a few tries bc of all the sweating my husband was doing from being in so much pain the doctor comes by to tell April what to give my Husband for pain. April was our blessing the entire time we were there. She is the ONLY one that cared about my Husband being in pain and the only one that truly helped us. She was a TRUE blessing. The doctor was not genuine or understanding and did not seem to want to help. He belittled us bc I had gotten upset- which anyone would have. I am normally a very calm person and very patience but when you are listing to a loved one in that much pain it is VERY hard to be patient!! What I would like to get across is that my Husbands visit to Culpeper Hospital was a HORRIBLE experience and that a nurse named April was our only saving grace in a horrible situation. I have never written a review-never have taken the time to do so. I HAD to write one this time bc of how upset I still am with the whole experience. Watching my Husband in that much pain around nurses and doctors, feeling helpless and no one but one amazing person WANTING to help has rubbed me the wrong way!!! We had to go by ambulance bc my husband could not move so you would think we would have been assisted a lot more quickly!! We live in Culpeper and I WILL pay for a ride to Mary Washington before I ever go back to that hospital in an emergency. By the time we would wait to be seen at Culpeper we could drive and have been seen at Mary Washington. I hear that Mary Wash is no good.....Culpeper is WORSE!!! The Doctor was Burt, David. If you read the whole thing, thank you!!!!!!

I found the emergency room and staff very good however If to tell the truth the step down unit was extremely bad. My mother in law was there and is paralyzed from the neck down she was left in the room for five hours and no one I mean no one came in and checked on her. I was there the whole five hours for two days and on those two days she was never checked on. She was in the hospital for heart issues too. She had a decubissus on her bottom and for two days and nights was left on back the decubisis has gotten worse. She was never turned. I do give credit to the physical therapy they are good. they changed her bandage and did everything they could for her decubisis. When my mother in law was admitted on Saturday night she is a gastric tube feeding she is fed from 8pm to 8 am every day. I asked was they going to feed her when they got her to her room on the step down unit and was told she would be. I told them if they didnt have her canned food that goes in her gastric tube call me and I would bring it back out to them. So when my wife and I arrived on Sunday morning only to see she was not fed. They did not feed her until Sunday at 2 pm. There was no orders not to feed her. Makes me wonder why. I have never in my life been in a hospital where you are not constantly being be pestered by the nurses and aides, but there my mother in law was left alone. Now I want you to picture a lady who is paralyzed from the neck down cant use a call button and no one comes in to check on her for hours at a time. I get they do get busy but when you walk in and she in laying in urine and feces that has left stains down to her feet on the sheet what do you think would you think she was checked every two hours? Then when she is sent home they sent the wrong medications sheet with her. She got someone else sheet so then my wife had to call and get that straightened out instead of taking immediate care of her mother. you can do what you think but if any way possible I will avoid this hospital in the future. Instead of doin all the remodeling maybe they should concentrate on patient care. Hire people who care about people and not a paycheck. who do you blame administration or the workers?

Cant get over my treatment while at this hospital. I came in while 12 weeks pregnant. While there i miscarried. I was asked to put the passed fetus into the container so they knew for sure and could examine it. Nobody ever took it away. I sat for almost 5 hours in agonizing pain staring at my lost baby in a cup on a tray beside my bedside. Nobody came to check on me or give me updates for almost 2 hours apart. I finally told them i would like to leave so that i could go home and grieve my loss. Took another hour to get paperwork. This was inexcusably the worst experience somebody could have. Ill make the extra hour drive to UVA.

Unfortunately, I dont have much time to write an extensive review. My mother has been here for 7 days. This hospital is now affiliated with UVA and the care is exceptional. The staff is especially courteous. Visiting hours were over at 8, but moms condition was serious. I was encouraged to leave and get rest to take care of myself, but I wasnt asked to leave as I was unobtrusive and not disruptive. The hospital staff and doctors are so open and willing to answer questions. Hopefully we wont have to come back! If we do, I know we wont have to worry about how we are treated.
