I went here when Dr. Proia worked there and really loved her. But then she left, and then I had to see Dr. Downs with my dog and thats when I decided to leave (Dr. Downs is the owner of the practice). The one positive I will say is that the techs and front office staff there couldnt be nicer, but Dr. Downs is so awful that I wouldnt subject myself or my dog to going there again. Lowlights include: 1. Her charging me for two things I didnt ask for/ were not told were expenses. 2. Her spending 10 minutes telling me that my dogs ear infections could be related to 9 million allergens but then not telling me what to do with this information except to make my head spin. 3. Her telling me that my kids need to be careful kissing our dog as she once "had a vet friend get too close to a Rottweiler and the dog ripped her face off and she needed facial reconstruction surgery." I mean, really? I dont own a Rottweiler, my dog is as gentle as you could get, and what exactly do you want me to do with that information? If she was concerned, fine, but there were WAAAY better ways of talking to me about it. 4. When asked for a dog behaviorist recommendation (my dog has extreme separation anxiety), her referral was a friend of hers in Gaithersburg, MD and I would have to travel to see her. Really? No one in the DC metro area thats closer and travels? Doubtful. 5. When I talked with her about my concerns regarding our visit, she just dug in her heels. Never once apologized or even said, "Im sorry you felt that way" and made me only dislike her more. 6. After all of that and her knowing I didnt want to be charged for things without them letting me know what it was for first and how much it would cost, on a subsequent visit she charged me TWICE for services I hadnt requested. There are a lot of vets in northern Virginia. Dont choose this one if either love your pet or want to not spend all of your money on unnecessary services.

We have been going to Little River Veterinary for about 14 years now. They are our trusted doctors for our second dog! Everyone from the doctors to the techs and staff are very caring, friendly and knowledgeable. They LOVE your pet as a family member as you do. At your appointment they will listen to your questions and take time to explain answers and diagnosis in clear and easy lay language. I have further confidence in Little River Vet because their examination rooms are clean and bills provide health information in addition to detailed billing information.

Weve been bringing our cats here since 2011. Whether its been regular health exams or advice on inappropriate urination, Dr. Downs and her team have been fabulous about ensuring the continued good health of our cats.
We have also used their grooming services (nail trimming and lions head cut for long-haired cats) and have appreciated the effort that goes into routine maintenance. We recommend Dr. Downs and her team of Little River Veterinary Clinic for all your pet needs.

We have used Little River Vet Clinic for many years for our several dogs and cats and they have been wonderful in all ways...from unusual health maintenance i.e. shots etc. but also for when we had to have our beloved cats, age 22 and 23, put to sleep. They are very caring. I started using Little River after I learned that they did free spaying/neutering for the feral cats left abandoned at George Mason University and I thought that was very generous of them.

Little River Vet is the most compassionate and thoughtful veterinarians Ive met. Two years ago when we had to put down our 13 year old Lab, they were so sensitive during the process itself. And then a week or 2 later, we receive a condolence letter from them with our pets paw prints on it. Thats the extra effort that tells you they care. One last comment--the Lab we have now never freaks out when he visit Little River Vet.

The waiting room and examination rooms are clean, and they seem to keep wait times to a minimum, unlike many other vets in this area.
