I live five minutes from the Urgent Care. We live near the water. I was alone with my six children and I was bitten by a young snake that had found its way into my house. As its pupils were cloudy, and it was stripey-ish AND had BIT me, I was concerned what would happen if it was a young venomous snake (but obviously could not tell due to the pupil issue...and it wasnt like once I caught it in the plastic box by wrapping a towel around it I was going to take it out and examine it closely...). Anyway, I took the box with the snake secured in it and quickly drove up the road to the Urgent Care (the hospital is well over twice the distance) and begged them to help me, just in case (none of my neighbors was home...we are in the boonies, sort of). They refused. They said they couldnt even check the condition of the bite. They said they did not deal with things like that (yeah, I get that...who does?) and that I should drive to a vet to identify the snake or to the hospital myself. Really? They couldnt make a few calls and try to get someone to come over (animal control?) so they could monitor me in case it was a bad thing (I had a very bad headache which was just from bad weather approaching, not the bite, but I did not know that at the time). I wound up going to the ER at Riverside Walter Reed and those folks took me and Mr. Snake back immediately. I got a tetanus shot and needed support from the nurses, who were all very kind and sympathetic. The male orderlies had a great time messing with the snake and sending a photo of its finally emerging head to VPIs extension office (the snake was wrapped in that towel in a box), and they identified it as a moulting black snake, commonly mistaken during that period for something worse since it develops lines along its skin during the moulting process and can even mimic a rattle when scared...who knew?? You learn something new every day. I learned two. Dont go to Sentara Urgent Care if your need is urgent and black snakes bite when they get cranky because they are moulting. I would recommend trying someplace else. They look pretty on the outside, but inside they are crowded, slow (from a prior visit), and not particularly helpful.

I would give it a zero if that was available. Confidentiality was betrayed, was seen by an xray tech instead of a nurse. Tech was more concerned about catching what I had, than patient care. They did not take oxygen levels, after being told asthma inhaler wasnt working. I didnt test positive for flu, was told could be something I caught while staying in a hotel in New York; but was not tested for that possibility. The physicians assistant did prescribe medication which eventually worked. Another incident. The receptionist discussed my adult grandsons case with another patient, without a release of information.

Called them because I was afraid that my husband was in their parking lot having a diabetic episode. The receptionist said they could not help... they had patients in the office. Evidently they had no one else working there that could take 2 seconds to see if he was okay, which thankfully, he was. So much for URGENT CARE. FOLLOW UP: They did send someone out a while later to check on him. I am still angry about the initial response, but happy that they did make the effort. Offered him water and food. Thank you for picking up the dropped ball. Upgraded review from a 1-star to 3.

If I could give this place a zero I would... I went in to be seen. . Only three people were ahead of me and I waited two hours. I sat at the 0-15 minute wait time for over 30 minutes. Decided to just leave and not be seen. They will not get my service.

We were the only people there. They did not have any patients in the back either. Still took an hour to be seen. Do not go here for anything remotely urgent.
