About 3 months ago I came into Capitol Rehab with the intention of shadowing Dr. Mayer to learn more about the DNS technique he uses to solve chronic pain issues. Im an Occupational Therapy Assistant and Massage therapist, as well as a chiropractic student. I have experience with body science & rehab. DNS is different than any method Ive ever had the pleasure of studying. And a month after observing Dr Mayer treat patients using DNS, among other techniques, India, his office manager called & invited me to come do some massage in the clinic. I was thrilled! I was going to be a part of an amazing rehab team. Just after I agreed to do some massage work for Dr Mayer, I woke up with pain in my right neck & shoulder like Ive never had before. It limited my movement, made me nauseated & I felt like there were knives in about three differrent places in my neck & shoulder. Dr Mayer began treating me. I did the exercises he prescribed and got my DNS treatments regularly. Turns out, I had a herniated disc at the C7 level (thats at the base of the neck). If I had gone to an othopedist, I would have certainly been encouraged to have surgery. Today, less than 2 months from starting treatment, I am pain-free! I have full range of motion and the knives are all gone! Im amazed... If you are suffering from pain & no practitioner has been able to restore your function, you owe it to yourself and everyone who loves you to let Dr Mayer show you how you can live pain-free (and come see me for a massage)! The entire staff is fantastic. I cant say enough positive things about Dr Mayer & Capitol Rehab. I am so relieved to be free of my pain. I am so grateful I made that first visit. Thank you Dr Mayer, India & Kirstin!!!

I was a patient at Capitol Rehab for about two months for right knee pain that Ive self-diagnosed as jumpers knee or patellar tendinosis. Its a problem Ive had thats recurred since I first started squatting almost a decade ago. (Full disclosure -- I worked their previously as an assistant and came back later as a patient when I had stopped doing any of the exercises I had formerly taught as an assistant.) As a Physical Therapy student @ VCU, Im always amazed at how much closer the practice is to what I would expect from a physical therapist, when Dr. Mayer was originally trained as a chiropractor. The practice is based around a Czech school of Physical Therapy called DNS, and Capitol Rehab of Richmond consistently blows any physical therapy clinic Ive visited out of the water. Through a combination of hands-on manual therapy, very little chiropractic manipulation (bone cracking), and specific exercises, Ive been able to prevent my knee pain from recurring on my own ever since. I was never treated with electric stimulation or ultrasound, nor was I ever placed on a treadmill or other generic exercise simply to bide time so that they could bill my insurance for exercise therapy. Try finding a physical therapist or chiropractor with the same understanding of core strength and diaphragm activation as Dr. Mayer, and you simply wont be able to in Virginia, let alone Richmond. While you might have to work a little bit harder than at your average PT clinic, youll be receiving the best sports medicine approach available. I never hesitate to recommend people go to Capitol Rehab to treat their orthopedic issues.

I have been working with Dr. Mayer since February 2013. Today, I am able to balance on one foot. Big deal? Absolutely. I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS). My balance is compromised and lower back pain was an issue as my body was over compensating for my unsteady gait. Dr. Mayer has changed my outlook and taught my body the skills to fight disability. By strengthening my diaphragm and with his knowledge of reflexology, my brain has learned to carry my body differently. Dr. Mayer, Mr. K, India and Kerstin have displayed a genuine interest in my well being which can never be repaid. My Neurologist is still a part of my treatment for this disease, but adding the team at Capital Rehab to my plan to conquer the effects of MS has changed my life. All of the team is knowledgeable, patient, and caring. When you have a chronic disease, other things fall into place at times like depression. Dr. Mayer has given me HOPE, which is a priceless gift. I would recommend this clinic to anyone. Its non-conventional to the medical world, but you will be glad you stepped out of your comfort zone and tried this technique. Theres no hocus-pocus or crazy products to purchase. You just put a little effort into the course of treatment and the results will appear in no time. With a trip planned to Alaska this summer, my fear of hiking on uneven terrain is gone. My life has changed and my gratitude can never be expressed fully to Dr. Mayer and his team. I might have MS, but it doesnt have me! I have Capital Rehab. God Bless all of them.

Dr. L. Mayer changed my life after the first visit. I discovered his practice and benefits of DNS by chance. I am so grateful of this discovery because Dr. Mayer is able to facilitate my recovery from a misdiagnosed stroke that went unrecognized for 2.5 years. Not only did he treat the stroke symptoms via DNS, his program addresses the underlying cause and the by-product depression due to the physical impairments inherited from the stroke. After firing two PCPs, three neurologists, one neuro-opthamologist, one ENT physician, Dr. Mayer replaced each one of them with his precision, scientific application and knowledge. He could detect physical deficiencies/impairments which were overlooked and ignored by individuals we think we can trust just because they are members of Western Medicine and have obtained the name as,"DOCTOR". Dr. Mayer is the nations best kept secret! He seeks to cure patients unlike the rest! He needs to start making plans for a larger practice one I begin to spread the word! Dr. Mayer has earned an A+++ rating from me because he saved my life! Capital Rehab of Richmond is the best medicine!

I would highly recommend Dr. Mayer to anyone suffering with chronic pain! My story: I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12 and I was placed in a back brace at age 15 to keep my curvature from getting worse. After wearing the back brace for my designated year, I continued to suffer with back/neck pain. I went to a chiropractor regularly and I even tried yoga therapy, but my pain was never relieved for very long. I moved to Richmond and a friend recommended Capitol Rehab. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Mayer! My pain has decreased dramatically since I started seeing Dr. Mayer about 2 years ago. By using a combination of techniques, Dr. Mayer is retraining my body to work as it should! I also appreciate that Dr. Mayer teaches all of his clients exercises that help to improve their condition. Whenever I feel pain in certain areas of my body, I know what exercises to do and how I can help myself to decrease my pain.

I had knee surgery a year ago and went through 3-4 months of physical therapy but was still not able to climb stairs or resume pre-surgery activities at an appropriate level. I was feeling like I would never get my functionality back when my other knee began to show signs of needing surgery. I met Dr Mayer. He and his office changed my whole life. In a few weeks I was pain free and my range of motion returned. I am now close to being back to the way I was before I had surgery maybe even better and I owe it all to Capital Rehab. Their program has changed my life!!
