Ive had dogs for over 16 years and dealt with numerous vets of which I could always speak highly of... This vet hospital though by far was inexplicably bad. The receptionists are rude and not compassionate whatsoever. The doctors require unnecessary shots and vaccinations that are not required elsewhere (deworming dogs when they do not have worms twice a year). The cost is ridiculously high and the availability to see vet patients is few a far between. Waiting until next week in an emergency is uncalled for... Two of my experiences included having my dog vaccinated for something that was not needed, but I was told had to be done.. Next thing I know my dog is violently ill due to the vaccinations and I am paying upwards of $200, because of unnecessary vet work to recuperate my very ill dog. My second experience was ordering a lab test and then the staff, although the test is complete, refusing to give me the results when my dog was becoming increasing ill (and since he could not get an appointment had to go elsewhere). The front desk staff would not even speak to me, but instead would only keep answering the phones and talking to clients coming in the door. I finally had to get the other vet clinic to call and request the results in order to receive them. And throughout all of these experiences there was never so much as one apology or kind word. If you want to spend a lot of money and be treated in a condescending manner and without compassion this is your spot. If not, seek kinder and more affordable vets around town. I certainly wish I had never put my dogs health at risk and wasted my time and my money here.

Most of the vets and all of the staff are very very nice, and the facility is wonderful. Location couldnt be better for me, and when my dog was sick it was much easier than taking him across town. When he was sick he stayed here a lot and the vet kept me updated constantly. Then when I had to put him down the vet stayed in the room with me and was absolutely wonderful. I will say that I think they overcharge. They want to see pets 2x a year (more than I go myself, but they are thorough) and routine exams are more expensive than other vets I have gone to. This year, I was given to a new vet, Dr. Faulkner, and he told me my cat needed a dental cleaning, which was true, and then he quoted me $800-1000 plus more for any extractions. I was devastated, because I knew I couldnt afford that. I explained to him that I couldnt afford it, and he told me to "just save up". His horrible attitude and treatment of me ensured that I will not be returning. I ended up being able to take my cat to Helping Hands down the street for his cleaning (they focus on pet surgery and dental care only at affordable rates) and I will be looking for a new affordable vet. If you have the extra money to spend, I do like most of the vets here a lot (just be sure not to get Dr. Faulkner), I just think that you could save money elsewhere.

I have brought my dog in to them multiple times for the same issue and every time they tell me that he needs multiple tests and multiple shots and multiple everything, and then at the end of the visit they say theres nothing they can do for him except give him an anti-inflammatory and charge me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I just called them because he is having a flare up again and I wanted to know if I could pick the anti-inflammatory up or if there was something at home that I could give him and they said that they require that he comes in, I told them that I cant afford to spend $400 for a little bottle of pills and she said there was nothing she could do. Was going to them because the location is very convenient, not enough for me to stay. The health and happiness of my dog means too much but I still need to keep a roof over my head. Just lost a customer, and thats all that we are to them. Cash carrying customers. Already made an appointment with another vet.

I have taken my dog here for two years (shes only three years old) and I accepted the expensiveness of the place because the veterinarians are very friendly. I have to say that I will NEVER come back here again after my last encounter. My dog had injured her paw... it wasnt anything major but it was affecting her enough to where she would lick it when she was laying down. I took her by there to see if anyone could just take a quick look at it and give me advice on how to treat it. The lady at the front desk said she would have to charge me EIGHTY DOLLARS for a vet to come out and look at her paw. WHAT?! I told her that was really steep for a vet to merely look at her paw, especially since I had dropped over $300 there a few months before. Needless to say, even after she went back to "talk to the vet," they were UNWAVERING and didnt give a s#*! that Ive been a loyal, paying customer for two years. This place loves MONEY not pets.

Took my cat there for a eye prolem. The doctor clearly was not listening to my whole story. He seemed fixed on the guess he had in his head from the start. They prescribed medecine for two weeks. It ran out in one (oral antibiotics ) When I went back to get a refill and questioned the dossage size, they stated they were right. Well the next batch of two week formula went away.again. Im not quiet a rocket scientists, but I certainly can measure medecine. After visiting the eye speacialist a couple doors down, the.problem was solved, and wasnt even close to what this place said. So after not listening, mis-diagnosing, an failing to properly measure medecine I would have to conclude they are a.complete failure. Oyay, they were more expensive then the speacialist.

The staff here was great and very helpful when our cat got suddenly sick. They were able to get our cat in on relatively short notice which was helpful considering his state. Reception was very kind and helpful, the vet techs were knowledgeable and good with the cat, and the vet was very thorough in her explanation of her diagnosis, what she though a course of treatment should be, and the outline of charges. While this vet ended up not being capable of handling the severity of our cats illness, they were able to recommend us to the local emergency vet who specialized in internal medicine, while also transferring the pertinent medical records and supplies, in a timely and helpful fashion. I plan on taking my cats here for more routine check-ups from now on.

Ive taken my dog to Cary Street Vet 3 times since moving to Richmond. The first time they gave her a shot I didnt ask for and once I confronted them they gave me my money back. The second time I went was after she woke up having trouble breathing for about a minute. I called the vet telling them what happened and they said to bring her in. The vet took a quick look at her, said it was a simple reverse sneeze and told us to get benadryl... that cost $80. Just today we took her to get a rabies shot, kennel cough vaccine, and a proheart injection. They gave her 2 extra shots without asking my permission and swear up and down they did. I planned on paying $150 for this appointment and ended up paying $221... NEVER GOING BACK.
