So I called VCU Dental Care today to make an appointment for a root canal and this lady named Jennifer (or Jenny, I cant remember) answered the phone with a monotonic and flat voice. I said Id like to make an appointment. She said it wont be available until 1.5 months later -and I understand that. It is over two hour drive (and I made sure she understood that), door to door, to get there so I wanted to make sure my trip was worth it. I carefully asked, after telling her which tooth Im going to need a root canal on, approximately how much it is going to cost. She hastily said "No, you cant." I could tell she gets this kind of questions everyday and shes sick of it. Then she said I need to come and make an appointment first. I respectfully asked if she knows if I can do the root canal that day because its a long drive (~5 hours total). Her first response was "No, you cant," very disrespectfully and repeated the same thing before. And I dont mind her telling the truth, but she just said it as if Im this money-grabbing greedy stingy person who has no idea how the flow of dental care works. She just kept saying that I NEED TO COME HERE FIRST and would refuse to give ANY other information. I respectfully asked, "Im trying to save some money, could you at least tell me if its going to be cheaper than local dental clinics?" She repeated the same thing, only faster and more angrily. Im on a budget and all I wanted to know was ANY kind of information regarding the price. But all I got was a grumpy, annoyed, flat voiced lady who refuses to help me any way, DISRESPECTFULLY.

I have been calling VCU Dental Care daily to try and reschedule a wisdom tooth extraction for over 3 months now. At this point, even though I know that I cant afford it, Im going to have to go to a private practice to have this done due to how unbearable the pain has become and how unprofessional the staff has been. If you have the money for it, I would recommend finding an actual dentist and not even bothering with this place. Im extremely disappointed with the lack of service and wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. edit: another week and a half has passed and every one of my phone calls has gone to voicemail. DO NOT bother with VCU Dental Care, go to a real dentist and save yourself some time. I have zero expectations of ever getting through to anyone, it looks like my tooth will have to abscess severely enough that I have to go to the hospital. Thanks for absoluely nothing, VCU Dental.

OMG!!!!!! Had it not been for the intervention of one of the doctors I think I would have literally passed out from the unrelenting tenacity of two dental students trying to extract two teeth. To say that they were more focused on extracting the teeth rather than listening to the patient would be an understatement. Giving no communication of what to expect, including when they were going to administer injections, coupled with feeling their way of what to do next was literally a process gone bad. Had the doctor not intervened I suppose I would have eventually gotten up and left. Never, ever will I pay for the privilege of subjecting myself to students, who claimed to only have a year before graduating, who clearly need to be taught to listen to the patient, know when to solicit the doctors intervention or perhaps just choose another profession.

I have always had problematic teeth even though I take excellent care of them. I have been coming to the VCU Dental School for over 10 yrs to get both basic & advanced treatment. I have received fantastic service from every student dentist who worked with me. I am currently in process of having an implant placed, my 4th one to date. VCU has state of the art equipment & treatment. My oral surgeon is fantastic. Dr. Rost is friendly, smart, & makes me feel at ease. She provides very detailed explanation of the process along with any potential contingencies. I have great confidence that she will provide excellent care. Nobody I know likes having oral surgery but this is as close I have come to enjoying it. Parking is easy with valet for $5. Attendants are courteous & efficient. All the supporting staff are also pleasant & very willing to help.

The most pleasant dental experience Ive ever had. I was able to get an appointment the next day for my root canal. Dr. Krygowski was amazing and made me feel comfortable and at ease. Unexpected dental work is the worst, physically and financially, but this was so great. The work was done in two appointments with no complications. I felt very informed throughout the whole process, which was great. Im starting the screening process now to get the crown done on the tooth that needed the root canal, but I cannot say enough about great the VCU Dental Care Endodontics were for me. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is without expanded dental care like me when unexpected dental work comes up!

I have been seeing 3rd year student, Allison, and have had several procedures done. I must say that I do not fear the dentists at VCU. That applies to the students as well. I had to have another tooth extracted today since there was nothing but root left and also had 2 teeth filled. This was in the afternoon and it is now 9:15 p.m. and I am still not in pain, nor am I bleeding. I cannot say enough positive about this young lady and hope that when she is finished with her training that she will settle and practice somewhere near my home so that I dont have to find another dentist for myself and my family. Allison is outstanding.

I live in Norfolk, Virginia and travel to VCU for my Orthodontics needs. Why? I came to VCU Dental Care for a second opinion. Our Orthodontic student is amazing. She listened and answered all my questions and concerns. VCU Dental Care customer service is by far one of the best I have found. I think they have the VCU Vibe. I like that they are equipped with the most current technology. The office staff is pleasant. Everyone is willing to help you. I was also offered a payment plan that fit my budget. If you have any dental needs, please visit VCU Dental Care and catch the Vibe. You won’t be disappointed.

The level of care from the student and the professional Dentist at hand is extreme professional and caring. They listen to what you have to say and do not talk like your not there. They are truly a teaching hospital with the highest level of treatment but sensitive to your presences. Getting through the initial acceptance program is a bit annoying but once your accepted and assigned a student your level of frustration is gone. I had a great student and a very good experience for half the cost. Try it.

I had a root canal done here a while back by an excellent guy who was working on like a post-DMD dental degree. He was a highly qualified guy, and I had no pain. The only thing I would suggest is that there is really nowhere super-close-by to park. I wonder, can people park at the brand-new VCU Childrens Pavilion (three or four floors of parking) and just walk over? Its closer than the pay-by-the-hour parking lot I use, its cheaper, and, hey, its still VCU. Someone please clarify the rule? Thanks!
