I have had to bring several family members of mine and myself to this hospital over the years. This hospital has slowly gone down hill, has declined, and is almost...if not as bad as Culpeper Hospital. Ive said over the years that I wouldnt even take my dog (if I had one) to Culpeper Hospital, and Im starting to feel the same way regarding Fauquier Hospital. My husband came in today, with excruciating back pain due to herniated and bulging disc...L4, L5, and S1. We waited for over two hours in the waiting room, and once we were seen by the doctor, he treated my husband like a pain pill popping seeker, and wanted to give him pain meds and on his way. Well, because of my husbands increased pain levels, numbness, and his leg giving out, we obviously thought that they would most likely want to do a MRI. Wrong. The doctor did not want to do a MRI, and didnt want to do anything to help at all. He acted like my husband was there for medication and that was it. After I called to speak to the Patient Advocate, he changed his tune and ordered a MRI. During this time my husband was almost in tears due to his pain. I went out to the nurse to ask if he should take his pain medication (which was obviously not working), or if he could be given something stronger. The nurse knocked on the door while I was speaking with the Advocate, and she told us to let him take his own medication. Ok, so take the medication that hasnt been working?!? Approximately ten minutes later, the doctor knocked on the door and said he would order him something for pain. After receiving the medication, his pain levels went down and his blood pressure did as well. The pain started coming back approximately two hours later and his blood pressure spiked up to 142/104. After receiving another dose of pain medication it went down to 125/89, because obviously his pain was decreased. After having the MRI done, and when the doctor came back into the room, he read the results which were confirming his bulging and herniated discs, didnt ask us if we had any questions, said he would be giving him a RX for a steroid pack (which he shouldnt be taking because he has maxed out on those because they can cause osteperosis if taken too often or frequently), and quickly left the room without even asking if he was feeling better or anything. I would not recommend this hospital. This hospital, the staff, the care, and the doctors used to be amazing, and now they are none of the above...pretty much the complete opposite. My sister passed away on November 26, 2014, due to a Pulmonary Embolism. For days she had trouble breathing, but didnt want to go to the ER because she didnt want judgement from the doctors because she was on a pain management program. They treated my husband with the same judgement that my sister was fearful of, and it is ridiculous, rude, and unprofessional. Not everyone is seeking pain medication. Not everyone abuses medication. Not everyone lies. No person should ever be afraid to seek medical treatment if they are in true pain because they dont want to be judged because they have been given pain medication in the past or are in a pain management program. I am very disappointed with the doctor. The nurse was wonderful. The doctor was not professional, and seemed upset at us because we spoke up. If you dont speak up for yourself in the end...then who will? I hope that Dr. Jenks reads this, and I truly hope that the doctors in the ER department could show more compassion for people who are truly in pain, and not treat them like pill popping drug seekers. When a grown man has tears in his eyes because of his chronic pain, frustration, and judgement being passed, then its a problem that needs to be addressed. I live an hour from Warrenton, and approximately 90 minutes from INOVA, and from now on, I think I would rather make the long commute than come to this facility.

My wife and I went to the ED today because she was experiencing pain in the kidney area accompanied by chills, weakness, and nausea. We were admitted promptly, but after that the service went downhill fast. The nurses and aides were friendly however, the nurse practitioner who oversaw my wifes "care" had the bedside manner of an uppity shrew. She barely spoke to us, barely listened, and was in the room for a total of maybe 6 minutes and that includes all the times she was in the room. At no time did she actually touch my wife, nor attempt to discern the exact location of the pain to verify if it was, in fact, her kidneys or simply a pulled muscle. She completely disregarded the fact that my wife had recently started a medication that could cause kidney damage. Instead, she seemed certain my wife was pregnant, even though we knew she wasnt, or that it was a simple kidney infection (a diagnosis we both would have found reasonable). We spent 2 hours in the room waiting for the results of a urinalysis only to be ultimately told that it showed nothing. Still, no one attempted to discover the location of my wifes pain and we never saw the Dr. Wagner who was supposed to be on duty. We were told, without examination aside from the urinalysis, that because my wife was young and healthy, she had a pulled muscle. The nurse practitioner said she would prescribe a pain killer that we did not want and discharge my wife. We left in disgust before receiving the discharge papers or prescription for pain meds that I have no doubt would have contained acetaminophen, and thus interacted with my wifes migraine medication, because I doubt very seriously that anyone bothered to actually look at her charts. Our regular physician recently decided to disassociate himself from Fauquier Health and if this wasnt one of the reasons why, it should be. We will never go back and would not recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately, I cannot rate them as Poor alone, so please disregard the part where it says Poor-Fair. The service was Poor to downright non-existent.

First off, I never publicly gripe about anything, but out families experience at this hospital has been terrifying for anyone wanting adequate care for someone they care about. To begin, the night shift nurses were rude, inattentive and very incompetent. They were having issues with a machine, which is supposed to prevent blood clotting after surgery. Three different nurses attempted to to figure out a machine, youd think, they would be adequately trained on. When they couldnt figure it out, they began cutting it off to reboot it (this didnt fix the issue, it just cleared out the beep Im assuming was interrupting their phone and magazine time). One look at the machine and you could could see there was a loose wire, preventing the machine from properly inflating and deflating on the legs. In addition to this, we found out the very next day that all of the systems monitoring my family members vitals were incorrectly set up and unsecured. She would ask the night shift nurses for simple things (like water due to having a dry mouth) and you would never see them again. They literally made you feel as if you were a burden to them. I had to harass them all night to get their faces out of their phones and do their job. This is a career field where you must have a certain level of compassion and a nurturing spirit. If you are only around to collect a paycheck, maybe you should find a job at elsewhere.
