If you signed up with Group Health Cooperative as your Medicare supplemental coverage, you may have already realized the mistake you made. If you havent, you will eventually. The concept of “one-stop shopping” is great in theory, but only if the practitioners with whom youre dealing are at least semi-competent. I had the misfortune of selecting a primary care physician who was not only incompetent regarding my personal needs (after a year, my primary diagnosis – for which Im on Social Security disability – still wasnt reflected on my medical record); her attitude over the course of a year was nothing less than sadistic. From apparent forgetfulness from one appointment to the next, to a snide joke about hoping she didnt find heroin in my urine sample, I found this individual utterly useless as a physician. My Group Health cardiologist (himself an obese clown) walked into the examination room, sat down, tapped my ankle, and said , “Oh, yeah. Youve got congestive heart failure.” Three months and a battery of tests later, I got an email that said, “Your hearts fine. Everything looks great!” Nothing like spending months stressed over an idiots off-the-cuff “diagnosis.” After determining via X-ray that I had no cartilage in my right knee, a Group Health physicians assistant reluctantly offered two injections (and refused to tell me exactly what was being injected) to relieve my pain before finally referring me to a surgeon to have the knee replaced, only after assuring me with a sneer that they probably wouldnt do it until I lost weight. These are but a few of many incidents which occurred with Group Health, not only to me but to my housemate as well (his situation remains a living nightmare after over a year of “care”). My suggestion is that you put everything in writing, and push as much as necessary to get answers to your questions. Youll need to be as proactive on your own behalf as you possibly can. Speak up, and start looking as early as possible for an alternative for next year.

Hands down the absolute worst healthcare I have ever experienced! Spent a year telling my PCP (and the glorified NP that I usually get to see) that I was experiencing trouble with my heart, chest pains dizzy spells, severe palpitations, pain in back and down arms, numbness in hand and more. They treated me with disrespect, I had to fight to get tests done and they only agreed after I passed out driving down the road and still my husband and I had to beg them. Month 13 of begging and fighting, I have a heart attack. age 35. Had to have surgery, referred out to Olympia cardiology. They were fantastic. Because I was referred out now Group Health will not let me go back to Olympia cardiology for follow up. They say I have to see their jokes of doctors and internal medicine group and they are still after all this and they are swearing its anxiety and I just need some zanax, pill pushing *##es I have bottles of mis-prescribed and unnecessary medications.. even two that they prescribed cost me over 100.00 to get them filled and 4 hours later they called and said "were sorry we got your labs back we were wrong you dont have this you have that...please go back to the pharmacy and pay for another prescription 60.00 we think It will help.... nope in fact could not take that medication, the pharmacist said, that will further your heart issue, they should have never prescribed this. And people wonder why they are called group death? Oh and dont bother to ask for someone in charge the doctors office managers will just go up to the admin office and let you pretend you are talking to someone with authority...they will patronize you, talk down to you, do nothing for you, promise to get to the bottom of it, promise to call you and you never hear from anyone.

I am scheduled for an appointment tomorrow. I will be reviewing a difficult procedure. My PCP spends half his time in OLY and the other in TAC. He is a very busy man that took over my case after my previous cardiology doctor retired. He has been with me on many procedures and a bypass. He has visited me several times in the hospital and was making his rounds quite often. He got me a superior Cardiac Surgeon that was the very best that could be had at St. Joseph. After one of my procedures, In the confusion, I was in another world I was all set to leave. They summoned fim from somewhere in the hospital. He came into the room and talked me out of it. After I finally "woke up", the nurses told me what was going on. They also put a bed alarm on me. Now, I get one automatically. I have had many providers with Group Health. Every one of them were dedicated to the patient and the outcome. Urgent care in Tacoma is great. I am sorry that some patients have had a bad experience. Work with the team. Do what they say. Make yourself heard.

I love Dr. Wood for my kids. Because of him, my kids love going to the doctor. He asks about all of them when I go in for one childs appointment and thats saying a lot b/c I have 6 kids. He has a great personality and you can tell he loves kids. Ive also had kids be seen by Scott Horvath, OD. He must have great chart notes b/c he remembered things about my daughter when she came in for an appointment that we talked about in her brothers appointment almost a year prior. I was impressed. Dr. Pietrantonio is super awesome as well! He squeezed in an exam when I happened to have a younger sibling at another childs appt b/c I was just curious if hed need glasses too. Most doctors would make you schedule on another day when there was an opening. I think b/c he has a younger child he knows what a pain it is to come into the doctor. I was so grateful for the time he saved me!!

My husband went to urgent care on September 18, 2016, arriving from Shelton at 4:30 pm. He has a hole in his lower calf that wont heal. Hes been seen before for this and they have not acted to help except to check for infection (it was negative). Today he was told all the rooms were full and he should drive to Tacoma to the 24 hour care facility. Im very disappointed in the level of care from Group Health over the past couple of years. It began when they would not take cash, and has gone downhill since then. A person is made to jump through hoops and hope to get approval for needed services. We may be changing providers this fall, but my guess is that there really arent many providers that are much better. Its a sad state of affairs we are in.

Ive had a mixed experience with GH. In the last few months, I feel like I have to make more and more appointments to get things checked out because the quality of care has diminished. I understand that they have more restrictions because theyre an HMO but its not reflecting well on them. Ive had to push hard to get certain tests done. I like my primary, the PAs Ive seen, and most of the nurses, but a good part of the time when Im there I feel overcharged, ignored, and bounced back and forth between departments. Often when I leave, Im frustrated and feel like my concerns were not validated or taken into consideration. Ive also noticed that they are too quick in prescribing antibiotics. The pharmacy wait times can be a huge nuisance.
