First, for the sake of all who walk through the doors of this ER, there should be a thorough investigation of the policies and staff of Valley Baptist Hospital ER. I brought my father to the ER on Friday, 04/15/2016, at approximately 9:30 PM. I went in to get some assistance because he was too weak to walk in on his own. I spoke with a gentleman and told him my father was 81 years old, has a bad heart and had a liver biopsy two days previously. He had developed severe pain in his mid section. (Our concern was either his heart or a complication from the liver biopsy.) The young male who triaged him took an EKG and had someone compare it with one on file. He said there were no changes and sent us back out to the waiting room to wait our turn. Dad could not hold himself up so we put the wheel chair on the backside of the row of chairs to support him. An hour and a half later he collapsed to the floor and started vomiting. It was painfully obvious to us that my fathers issue was not taken seriously. The triage nurse insisted he get back up in the chair. He was too weak to move. I asked for a stretcher and this person said they could not do that. He ask the staff to call security. When security came they wanted to call the charge nurse, but the triage person said no. Eventually, the security personnel were able to get my dad into the wheelchair because we were told there was a stretcher inside. Instead, they put us in a small room with no stretcher. I couldnt take it anymore and said loudly, "We dont need security, we need a doctor!" I must say we received the best care from the security guards. They were very sympathetic. One of them told us we could tip the chair back to make my dad more comfortable and proceeded to do it for us. Why didnt the triage person do this when we arrived after we asked if there was someplace my dad could lay down? I wonder if he would treat his dad like this? After this event we were still not offered medical treatment, so we left. Security made sure my dad made it safely into our vehicle. I think it is sad that a christian hospital employs security personnel who are more caring and empathetic than the triage individual who refused to call the charge nurse that security had requested. It is our hope that we will never need the services of Valley Baptist ER again.

I was taken to the emergency room for a finger laceration here. They did not have any empathy for my situation. The doctor came if you can even call him that, after 30 minutes of my thumb bleeding out, and said there was nothing that could be done it would only regenerate 30%and that I had to go home and wash with soap and water. Also the piece of my thumb that I brought was thrown away because he said it was useless. I left and with a whole roll of gauss on my finger that was covered in blood and when going to be checkd out I told them you cant send me home like this. while they were switching the bloody gauss they were passing me the bill horrible. No respect for the patient. With my thumb with two rolls of gauss they sent me home. I left and went to the Christus Muguerza Hospital in Reynosa, Mexico and was taken to ER and straight to reconstructive Surgery with the Plastic Surgeon. I had tissue taken from another part of the thumb to recustruct and now my thumb look completley normal 100% recovery. 100% regeneration. Amazing experience and saw the surgeon 5 times after and it didnt cost me any more than what I paid for the surgery for the follow up visits. Valley Baptist: ER visit only given Gauss, told to go home and wash with soap and water - $2300 USD Christus Muguerza Reynosa Mexico ER visit X-ray Reconstructive Surgery Sedative Anastesia to be unconcious. 5 Follow up visits Medication $1700 USD I will definately go back to Christus Muguerza for any emergency and NEVER return to Valley Baptist. The worst Hospital I have ever visited. I hope the Director conducts a serious restructing of his team and strategy so the public can be given the proper care needed.

This hospital is fine, all hospitals are a business which means they compete and try to do best, and all are very similiar, with the main difference being job pay and technology.. Since VBH has good technology, one of best stroke centers etc. and very good pay for their employees, they tend to take better care. HOWEVER, i cant stand all these idiotic review of overhearing nurses talking about patients or laughing. DO you think these people are machines, built to endure the hardships of people dying and literally serving patients every needs without any humor or relief? DONT ACT like you all havent ever joked about anyone or seen someones situation and judged them.. infact this helps individuals learn from that scenario so they dont make mistakes that the patients made cause they dont want to END UP in that situation (drug overdose etc.). I mean its not like they treat them worse or think any less of them as a person. Obviously they still treat everyone the same and care just as much, and if you cant see this then all you need to educate yourself in personal relationships. Also, be happy that you are treated nicely because you MOST of you are paying for the service, but also remember that 26% ER admissions are circulatory, 14% are digestive, and 6% are substance abuse, so leading a healthy lifestyle might prevent admission in the first place. Less redmeats, less cholesterol (less eggs), more excercise, and most importantly MORE EDUCATION (also prevents substance abuse).

I wouldnt even give this hispital one star. My grandmother was sent home from this hospital with pneumonia and gi bleeding and no antibiotics for it. They refused to do any more for her they basically said "take her home where she can be comfortable passing." She was brought to the hospital walking and when she was released she could not walk and hadnt been eating the 2 weeks she was there. Took her home, 2 days later her health declined and my mom transferred her to harlingen medical instead and they found a blood clot in her lung by doing a scan which valley baptist didnt do for her. It was already too late when they found it so her days were numbered. We let them know how valley baptist treated my grandma And the staff and Doctor reassured us that they were not going to be like them. They were very nice and attentative. She passed away peacefully at Harlingen medical last week. Point to this is that valley baptist sent my grandma home sick! And her doctor at valley baptist had the nerve to see her at harlingen medical and said "werent you at valley baptist?" And my mom replied "yes we brought her here because yall sent her home sick" and we never saw that Doctor again. I will never have a loved one step foot in this hospital. If I were you Id go to Harlingen Medical instead.
