If turnover wasnt such a problem at the front desk, perhaps the "senior" staff member (of 19 years of age) would not have such a giant attitude problem. I have been using this vet now for over a year, and have been biting my tongue, being patient with the new staff, and waiting my turn. However, though I have 7 dogs and am in very frequently, no one remembers who I am, who my dogs are, what breed they are or is even the slightest bit friendly. If I call in for an appt, it takes quite a long time to describe and re-describe the issue every time I call. This last time, I called and was given an appt time of 1:30pm. When I arrived, everyone looked confused, I was asked repeatedly "do you HAVE an APPOINTEMENT?" Yes, I did at 1:30. "WHO gave you that appt?? I dont know, was I supposed to write down a name? "WELL WE DONT TAKE APPTS AT THIS TIME AND WE DONT SEE YOU ON THE BOOKS. Apparently this was my problem or fault now, and not their multiple new staff members ignorance as was told "EVERYONE knows we are OFF and NO ONE would have made you an appt for 1;30". Then I was Chastised for not bringing in a stool sample even though when I checked in I told them I could not collect and needed a swab done. After that, a mean woman came out of the back and gave me the what for, for being there when they werent taking patients, (yes, my fault again). Then she chewed me out for being "nasty to the receptionist" (UM SHE WAS NOT THERE when the little snip was biting my head off, and I WASNT nasty, I just happened to show UP to their inconveneince). After they collected from my dog (no one knows if they were nice to her or not but I hoped so) I told them they would no longer have my business and the multiple thousands of dollars I have spent there for Xrays, whelping, shots, etc. Did they care? NOPE. If you can be drawn in by the new building, and convinced that since they have 8 docs on board this is a great place, go there. But watch out, ignorance awaits. And they WILL over test, and they WILL overcharge, so be in charge of what is done to your dog IF you go. I am going to be tallying up what I spent there over the last 12-14 months, and writing a letter to the main Vet, detailing my experiences with his "staff". I dont imagine it will make any difference but in hard times, maybe someone will listen when the lobby isnt bustling full of NEW patients.

Being a former veterinary receptionist I did a lot of research before bringing my pets to this clinic. That being said, I had a 6 year old Boxer who was acting dramatically unusual. I called ahead to see if they could fit her in same day and they were able to stay late (after closing) to diagnose and treat her! They spent 2 hours with her and my husband trying to figure out what was wrong. After they came to a conclusion she was sent home with meds and bloodwork was sent to the lab. The dr called me daily to check on her (most clinics make the vet techs or receptionists do this). The dr even sent me pdfs of the reports and labs, as requested. After she finished her meds she was back to normal. Then things got bad again, we knew it was a possibility after the findings. We took her in for a euthanasia, I wasnt ready to let her go due to her acting normal as soon as we walked in. The dr asked if we wanted to try another test and we did. She was sent home with more meds. About 3 weeks later she was back in bad shape so I called to get a refill on meds they were fast with the approval and fill. But about 20 minutes after my phone call she passed away in my arms (to cardiomyopathy, we knew she had limited time left. They did everything they could to lengthen it, they gave her 5 extra weeks of life). I called to request a drop off for cremation. They had to stay open late again to do this for us. Overall we couldve been charged thousands and they gave us discounts and treated us fantastically. Other vets refused to set a emergency walk in appointment. I called every clinic in south hill. We recently got another boxer puppy who has been seen twice once for a scheduled puppy exam/vax and again for a eye injury. The eye injury was a last minute emergency visit they made time to see us and didnt refuse service. Not to mention this was on a weekend, the busiest day in any vet clinic. She was sent home with the meds I requested and is 100% better. Overall this facility is amazing!

I realized how rare I actually write reviews when talking with friends recently and if any place deserves a 5 star review, its this place! I first went here because they were the only place in the area that didnt either hire out to a specialist for ultrasounds, charge almost $400 or have a machine so old it couldnt do what we needed it to do. My first appointment, I went in on a Sunday (for a non emergency, imagine that!) and didnt have any extra weekend surcharges or anything like that. I ended up coming back after my specialist appointment for palliative care and they were so kind and understanding. When the time came for my sweet kitty to head to wait at the Rainbow Bridge, I called and even though Id only been there twice and wouldnt get there until 15-20 minutes after closing time, they had no problem waiting for me and the kindness and compassion I received was amazing. They are a bit of a drive for me compared to my old vet, but Dr. Duprez has completely made it worth it. The prices are reasonable, in line with other smaller practices, but their cost for things like ultrasounds seem to be the best in the area (Believe me, I called 30-40 different places). The only issue I had is that I would have appointment set for a specific time, but the diagnostic testing would be for several hours later. It always worked out though and never detracted from the experience!

Ive been with South Hill veterinary clinic since 2009 but I noticed that their quality of care has dramatically changed. Recently my animals have gotten tapeworms and I went in about a month earlier and got medications for all three of my animals for a different type of worm, round worms and got it without having all of them to be seen but at this point when I went in today I asked the doctor to do the same thing if she could refill my prescriptions since I have been spending so much money there and the one I brought in was infected over the last month Ive spent around $500. What really frustrates me is that she said she couldnt do it because there was no documentation of them giving my animals the treatment for the month before and right there that just confirmed everything for me if they cant even keep the right documentation Im not going to entrust you with my animals.

Ive been taking my dogs here for a couple of years, and the service has gone way downhill. Recently, I brought my sick dog in first thing in the morning, because he had been very ill all through the night, and was having trouble breathing. They were completely uncaring, and basically just said we could wait around forever until a vet could see him several hours later, or they would stick him in a kennel in the back and get to him when they could. Both the reception staff and the vet techs were so rude! Although they were not busy, they acted as if we were a huge incovenience. No one seemed to care that my dog was suffering, or that I was worried about him. (I called another vet, and they were really nice, and arranged to have him seen right away.) After such terrible service, I will never bring my pets here again.
