We are new to Camas so we didnt have a vet established. We first visited another vet and $300 later we were told our pup was "anorexic." We put him on an expensive diet for over a month and watched him continue to lose weight. I felt something else was wrong so I called another local vet. After a very impersonal and shallow exchange with the receptionist, I was placed on hold for 20 minutes. While on hold, I scrolled Google and found Summit Animal Hospital. I decided to hang up and call. I was upset/crying when the receptionist answered. Immediately she calmed me and made me feel like it was OK and she truly cared that my pup wasnt feeling well. They didnt have any available appointments for the day I called but she didnt want me to worry longer than I had to. She placed me on (a brief) hold and cleared it with Dr. Tyler Vance for us to come in- right away. My pup was given an IV of fluids and medication to help stimulate his appetite. Dr. Vance didnt have an opportunity to speak with me in person during the visit but he called me that afternoon to tell me his observations. Dr. Vance also told me to feel free to call at any time if I wanted to discuss my pups health. Over the next 3 weeks, I called him several times as my pups health continued to quickly decline. Finally, we decided it was time to let my pup have relief from his pain. I was a mess. A blubbering, boohooing, mess. Dr. Vance sat on the floor with me and my pup as I wept and prepared to say goodbye. He didnt rush me and spoke in the most calming tone. He made me feel like we were his only and most important patients. After my pup left us, Dr. Vance stayed and pet him until I was ready to leave. Again, he didnt rush us. He then told me to just go past the front desk and we would settle up the bill later. I left his office howling with grief. It means so much to me that I was able to go to my car and let out my emotions rather than trying to hold a conversation about money. (Im weeping again while writing this.) I cannot thank Dr. (Tyler) Vance and his staff enough for their kindness during one of the most heartbreaking times of my life.

The vets are a caring group of doctors and for the most part the rest of staff are competent and empathetic to the needs of the owners and their pets. If you want good care for your loved one, Summit is a great choice.
