I was referred to Sunset Pet hospital when I moved to the area from Seattle, by my dogs trainer. He felt that Dr. Shottmans demeanor and training methods would be a good match for a couple of rescued rotties with "issues", and boy was he right! Unbelievably, Tinkerbell actually liked the team there, and she was usually so afraid of vets that shed wet herself trying to get away. For that matter, even my sketchy Starbreaker starts wagging his little nubbin when he sees where were going. Sadly, the cats never seemed impressed, but, well, theyre cats. They never seemed distressed, either. Honestly, if you take the time to form a relationship with the staff, the way you would a medical doctor, youre going to reap the most benefits here. Ive been with them for almost 7 years now, and I wouldnt want to go anywhere else. Ive tried a lot of different vets over the years, as Ive owned pets my whole life. There are some that are cheaper, its true, but the quality of the vaccines they buy and other, similar issues, are reflected directly in those costs. This vet takes my pets health very seriously, but they also take my sensibilities into account. Im not a huge fan of unnecessary chemicals, for example, but totally willing to cook for a neurotic emo rottie. By listening to my concerns, Doctor was able to immediately flex and recommend alternate treatment that has really helped my aging boy. When the unthinkable happens and its time to say goodbye, this team is the absolute best. Theyve helped me through the loss of two of my furry companions, and have done so with compassion and understanding. The facility is clean but not fancy, and the staff is kind, cheerful, and they have a sense of humor. They praise my pets and tell them how good they are, until theyre wagging and wiggling. They recognize how my pets bond to me and work with that relationship, unlike all the previous vets who tried to intervene or work against it. Overall, this has been the best partnership I could have ever hoped for, and I would hope that anyone looking for a "family" vet for the life of companion animals who are family, and not just pets, would consider this vet.

Thank you for providing excellent care for our precious animals. The biggest challenge for our move to Renton Wa from California was to find a veterinary clinic for our 9 year old diabetic cat, Willie and our 4 year old lab, Bentley. Our animals are like family members and we want only the best care for them. Sunset Pet Hospital has exceeded our expectations. My initial phone call to search for a veterinarian was to Sunset Pet Hospital. I was welcomed by the staff upon my initial appointment and treated with professionalism. Dr Kate Schottman has a wonderful rapport with animals and shows a genuine interest in the well being of the animals. She communicates clearly while listening to the concerns of the patients owner. Another aspect of her professionalism is she takes the time to be helpful. Her love of animals is displayed while she communicates with them, setting them at ease while giving them her full attention. In addition to pet medical care, we needed the resources of overnight care. The hospital has provided excellent overnight boarding for our lab. They also provided the name of an agency that could make home visits for our cat while we were away. Every time we have had to be away, we are reassured that our animals are in safe hands. If our animals could talk, they would thank us over and over for the special treatment they receive from Dr Schottman and her wonderful staff. Bentley is always very happy to see the staff. He is greeted with VIP attention when he walks in the clinic. Our time in Renton is coming to an end in a few weeks. It will be sad to leave Sunset Pet Hospital. We know there are other pet clinics out there, but we will always have special thoughts and memories of Dr Schottman and her staff. They are a class act in our opinion. I brought my dog and cat there as it was close to my house. But I am very thankful I actually moved vets. Dr. Kate over medicated my dog for something he showed NO symptoms of. He became lethargic and lost weight. When I look him off, she seemed disappointed in me and seemed to ignore my observations. I came back in for an eye infection and she stated that she wasnt concerned about the eye and "it was nothing". She was concerned about putting him back on meds! I finally got a second opinion and glad I did. It ended up that the dog DID have infection. I was disappointed in the fact they always wanted to medicate the animals and didnt seem to care a whole lot about what I as the owner had to say. I wont go back.

I first went to Sunset Pet Hospital because it was close to where I lived at the time and I had just adopted a 6 yr. old cat. I moved out of the area and continued to drive to see Dr. Schottman for the next 10 years because she is a very knowledeable and compassionate vet. My cat had some major health issues over the years and Dr. Schottman was great with my kittys care and didnt have me do any unnecessary procedures. My kitty passed away at the age of 16 and I think she lasted so long because of the excellent care she received. I adopted a dog a few summers ago and I wouldnt think of taking her to a vet other than Dr. Kate.

The staff at Doctor here are great. Other reviews mention the facility, but the color of the walls and decor does not mean they are not capable of providing excellent care. My dog Gus has been in many times for routine visits and unexpected infections. Each time we are treated with care, and get follow up calls after the visit to make sure Gus is doing well. We recently took a family dog here for a second opinion on care and Doctor Schottman was able to find tumors that the other vet at the VCA completely missed. I highly recommend this clinic if you are looking for a low-key, quality vet facility.

My experiences with Sunset Pet Hospital has been with my cats and I can highly recommend this business. Great consideration is given to my pets. All members of the staff have acted with professionalism. Kate Schottman, DVM maintains a high level of knowledge about veterinary medicine and takes the time to share this knowledge in an understandable manner to pet owners. Sunset Pet Hospital is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association and that is important to me.

My family has been bringing our cats to Sunset Pet Hospital for years now. The staff is always knowledgeable and kind. My cat has had countless problems including allergies, and other medical problems. They always remember details about our cats, as well as our family. They have been there during the healthy check-ups, and also during difficult times. I have been very happy with the service Sunset Pet Hospital has provided over the years.
