Im a single grandmother, raising three of my grandchildren since their births (now ages 9, 8 and 3). When my first was born, in May of 2007, M was born purple and nonresponsive, but was able to be released just three days later. M. was assigned to a pediatrician within Dr. Oriels office , and we saw this doc twice in the first two or three weeks. I couldnt stand him from the beginning - he had no empathy for my newborn grandson, no emotion other than being brusque. When M. was three weeks old, his doc went on vacation, and Dr. Oriel took over for the patients during the vacation. I took my grandson in due to serious health concerns shortly after his own doc left. I was absolutely delighted with Dr. Oriels care and concern, and the way he interacted with M. We had to go in a number of times over the next few weeks because there was concern he had a heart murmer, among other things. On our last visit before Ms original doc returned, I asked Dr. Oriel if we could switch to him as Ms pediatrician; he said he didnt know, hed have to check with his staff to see if he had room, then walked out. Within ten seconds, he was back, smiling and told me yes, of course. Since then, even though his patient load was over the top, Dr. Oriel "grandfathered in" two more of my grandchildren, including my now 3-year-old, who was born addicted and contracted spinal meningitis during his birth. Dr. Oriel even went to see him in the NICU, before he was released! I am almost 62 years old, have raised three of my own kids and now three grands, and in all my life, I have NEVER had the privilege of meeting a doctor who cares so much for his patients; he goes far out of his way to ensure that "his" kids get all the services they need to thrive. We started with him in Auburn, and when M was four months old we moved to Shoreline for 18 months, traveling to Auburn to see Dr. Oriel. During that time I gained custody of another infant grandchild, and Dr. Oriel never hesitated to take on her medical care. My eldest grandson, M, has serious mental health problems and developmental delays. Dr. Oriel has advised me what to expect, with stunning accuracy, from day one. He has also provided us with referrals, information to access special services, has been an active part in Ms care and treatment, as well as my other two, regularly, without fail. We moved back to South County after 18 months, and, until my grandchildren are grown, we will never go to any other pediatrician for their care - he is the best of the best, and my grandchildren (and I) adore him. I will never be able to thank you enough, Dr. Oriel!

2 Star rating for Auburn Valley Pediatrics OFFICE STAFF. To be clear, if I could rate Dr. Oriels expertise as a pediatrician, it would be 5 Star. Dr. Oriel was the first pediatrician to see our newborn in the hospital and we liked him so much that we went out of our way to ask him to be our doctor. At the time, we werent aware of the office logistics and communication problems that Auburn Valley Pediatrics has. Our first visit with our just born baby, we waited a half an hour. In that time, we would see new people walk through the door, sit for a bit in the waiting room, then have their name called. After 4 or 5 times of people going before us, we approached the desk. They apparently had forgot about us on their schedule. When we finally were called, Dr. Oriel was very apologetic which we appreciated. Our newborn had a small heart murmur and was underweight. Dr. Oriel had the best understanding of the situation so we were reluctant to switch because of this one bad experience and because of our newborns physical state at the time. The next appointment, we didnt wait 30 minutes... we waited 1 HOUR! Again, we saw people come through the door and get escorted to a waiting room immediately while we sat there with our newborn strapped in a car seat. Another woman was there and we asked her how long she had been waiting. 1 hour as well. After that appointment, we concluded that although Dr. Oriel is a great doctor, his staff, and in particular, his office scheduler, are completely incompetent and incapable of doing their job. There is clearly a very large gap in communication between the staff there which has lead to our very upsetting experience. We have since switched to a nearby pediatrician and havent experienced the types of problems we did at Auburn Valley Pediatrics. My review: if you want the best doctor - Dr. Oriel - go to Auburn Valley Pediatrics but just know that your wait time could be over 1 hour. Hopefully, Auburn Valley Pediatrics hires someone more competent to schedule appointments and coordinate patient logistics.

Dr. Bruce Oriel is a wonderful pediatrician! He is caring, compassionate, thorough, and connects well with his patients and their family. He and his clinic staff make every effort to make the children comfortable and at ease during their appointment. He uses both humor and compassion when treating the children, which we as parents appreciate! He listens carefully to the concerns of his patients and takes the time to educate parents when ever possible about their childs condition and discusses thoroughly the recommended treatment plan. We appreciate that when applicable, he takes the time to follow up with us to see how our child is doing, especially when there has been a recent concern in her health. We believe choosing the care provider who will look after your childs health care needs is probably one of the most important decisions a parent will make in the days following their childs birth. We can wholeheartedly say we believe choosing Dr. Bruce Oriel was the best decision we made in our childs health care thus far. He has been very proactive and insightful with treating her needs. We feel blessed. We highly recommend him! C & B Kim

Dr. Bruce Oriel is the best Doctor that I have ever met. He is my kids Pediatrician and I’ve never met a doctor with such a great balance of compassion, knowledge, and humor. He puts the kid at ease with playful interaction while also having excellent communication with the parents. We started taking our children to see Dr. Oriel when he was at Auburn Valley Pediatrics and although it is out of our way, we will continue to use him at Mary Bridge Pediatrics (in Tacoma) because he is that good. Thank you Dr. Oriel!

Dr. Oriel is one of the best Drs I have ever had. He became my pediatrician after my mom has several positive encounters with him at the hospital (where she worked). He continued seeing me for many years until I was 21 and moved out of state. I am almost 29 now and still have not found a Dr. as great as him. He has set a very high standard for finding a pediatrician for my own children one day.

Dr. Oriel has been my sons pediatrician since he was born and he is my nieces, nephews and friends doctor also. When asked by others who I would choose I say him every time. He is very kind and open and gentle with the children in his care. My son is very shy and has a hard time adjusting to new things and Dr Oriel has a way of helping my son open up and make him feel important.
