My dear grandfather is a 85 years old, holocaust survivor! On June 6 he broke his hip and we had no way to get him to a hospital in NY city, Which is why we took him to Coney Island Hospital. What a mistake! The operation went well, but what happened later became a nightmare and i still havent woken from it! Dont get me wrong, there are some great people on the staff ,but there are a lot of very rotten ones ! They look at the screen of the computer, and the people to them are just a number. On July 4th ,my grandfather was in bed with a dirty diaper full of bowels and urine for four hours until we got there and called the administrator!I We could not stop crying ,the last time my grandfather was in situation like this was in concentration camp! but this is only the start! My Mother is a 62 year woman, and on the 28 of june she was assaulted by hospital police for talking outside of the main entrance to me about my grandfathers care. He did not like her kind (Russian) and made it very clear The Gorilla of a man, 6 foot 4, 350 lb, told her to stop talking and because she didnt, he threw her against the wall and down and smilled about it Then they tried to cover it up,but its all on video and criminal charges were filled with real police! Please people think twice, before you leave your loved ones in this hell hole!! Other issues 1) My grandfather had an order in the computer to be sat up in a chair so he doesnt get bed sores and deteriorate. It took them 8 days to finally sit him because each department was blaming the other. Be advised, at coney island hospital, you need to be the biggest advocate of your loved one, i just feel sorry for those who have no one to fight for them! 2) Make sure the hospital doesnt decide to drug your family member by giving them xanax 4 times a day to make their job easier. 3) DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS THERE!!! RUN!!!

I went to check on my dad while he waited in the ER his chart and that of other patients were lost as he was waiting to be transfer to a room, this made the process take longer and no one wanted to answer why . Then a man who seem like the head of staff was clearing out papers left on the tables and throwing then out in garbage and telling the nurse "see this is how you keep organize " "if anyone ask you didnt see anything" walking away laughing. I was like wow maybe this is why the charts disappeared. Then the head nurse pass by looking for a papersheet she left and that was one of the papers thrown in garbage she was mad. Then am hearing how they making new charts for those lost but now doctors dont want to sign cause I assume they unsure whether they saw that patient or dont want to be responsible for any mistakes. Finally after hours waiting to go up my dad is taking up to the 7th floor, and its just a shame floor is dirty patient bathroom is dirty unsanitary . the nurse that check my dad vitals and blood for sugar levels left and left garbage on the bed. My dad had an incident with his drainage bag as he needs to get up to use bathroom and the sheet needed changing due to a leakage my mom told nurse and after a while they bring new sheets and leave it there my mom had to change it mind thats a problem since the patient is In bed with IV antibiotics and drainage bag connected , a nurse aid needed to provide assistance but none did. I was really dissatisfied and disappointed at the quality service from staff and the unsanitary conditions patients are under. Now dont get me wrong there is some dedicated doctors and nurses that do there best and work with what they have available but there others that just make there job harder. For those that did help thank you.

I was here with my Infant Son 7 weeks. Had his first fever. Verbally everything was fine and informative but as soon as the actual work had to be done the nightmare has started. The nurse had to do simple tests (Urine and Blood). Our baby was calm and well fed and acted very well. The worst of two was the urine test they had to have a catheter inserted in his urine tract, if done properly should be practically pain free. The nurse (young male) has done all sanitary procedures well and confident but then when he had to insert the catheter he lost his confident and was shivering. Due to his shivering and as a conclusive result unprofessionalism he made my son suffer SEVEN FAILED ATTEMPTS to insert the catheter. Blood test was taken with less failure yet when he inserted the needle in his hand he vinously and nervously wiggled the needle because he missed the vein/capillary. During all the failed attempts my son made both number one and number two out of severe pain he had experienced and due to that they left the catheter in his urinary tract. He was calmed down hardly after all the pain he went through. Breast fed hardly just to get at least some liquid in his system so he can at last pee and have the catheter removed from his urinary tract. After about 15 minutes he had filled his bladder slightly and we called the other nurse who was much more mature and seemed more promising in her professionalism. Our hopes ware hopeless. When she was taking the urine sample from the catheter she dropped the ampule with his urine that he had some much suffered for and all his suffering and our nerves that are never regained ware lost. ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE OF A HOSPITAL no matter how much renovation they make this hospital will stay the worst.

Overall terrible experience ever! I went to Coney Island Hospital emergency room with my 70 years old mother because she felt from stairs three days earlier and got open wound on her leg that got worst, it was red and swollen instead of getting healed. I thought that doctor can clean it and put some topical antiseptic so it will heal better. Instead we stayed there for more than five hours and neither the doctors nor the nurses even touched it because insurance companies does not pay for this. Yet, insurance companies pay for blood work test, radiographs and medical dropper, that what my mother got. When I asked why she needs radiograph on her leg nurse told me that they want to check if bone got infected, but any person who familiar with medical radiology knows that on radiograph can be seen only extensive lesion that began to develop at least two weeks before and my mother had this lesion only for three days and even if the bone is infected you will never will see it on radiograph. But, nobody cared that my mother will receive unneeded dose of radiation, the only thing they cared is to bill insurance for this procedure. I can continue forever about this terrible attitude of the most personal in the hospital that we encounter, but to make long story short, at the end we went home with prescribed antibiotics and open wound that got worst next day when we got home. This hospital is good only for drug addicted people to get morphine and not to help people who needs help. I feel really bad and do not understand which medical schools thaught those doctors that carelessness to their patients. Too sad...
