Buffalo News patients-infection-risk-medical-scopes8/18/17 Why isnt the supervisor overseeing the quality of work of cleaning instruments? Isnt it long past time Stiller be fired!!!!! How many times will he be allowed to run this facility in this fashion? Take note more than one article about Stiller and the VA hospital in Buffalo. Again and again incompetence VA medical center warning 526 patients of infection risk from scopes Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence – noting that the critical audit follows reports about reused insulin pens at the local VA hospital in 2012 and other issues reported there – said the troubles were so serious that Brian G. Stiller, the VA’s medical director in Buffalo, should be fired. “Why is Brian Stiller still employed?” Collins asked Thursday. “We expect to see heads roll.” Most notably, auditors found that wait times for new patients for first appointments at the facility went from 6.3 days in October of 2014 to 13.2 days in September of last year. Things are worse now 1 year after this appeared in the Buffalo News February 2016. Calls never returned the staff has three answers to everything 1) not my job 2) not my problem 3) I dont know.

Some departments outstanding (e.g. dental), others not so much (social worker). Dont bother calling; pretty much every number is either unattended/ignored or goes to answering machine which isnt checked. The senior leadership is very responsive, but its a shame things have to raise to their lever for resolution. Things they could do to improve: have a waiting list of patients to take appointments when another Vet cancels; survey every Vet after every visit to address issues that either arent on the radar of the hospital or can be resolved quickly and easily; treat Vets like the have a choice in their healthcare(sometimes I get the feeling my provider thinks Im on Medicaid and my care is coming out of her paycheck); have all employees perform as if you job and advancement depended on it (empathy and responsiveness go a long way towards customer satisfaction); hire more Vets. The VA Choice program is a joke. Its a colossal bureaucracy, so it will obviously not be each to fix. I want to say again, not every department nor every employee is bad, but regrettably a few bad apples ruin their reputation.

First time going to the er for knee and hip pain and swelling. The p.a. that was on did a half assed assessment. He didnt ask if there was any increased pain while he was manipulating my leg, did not compare it to the other leg. Told me that my x rays showed that the rid that has been in there for 12 years is still ok. Sent me home and told to rest. The nurse that was doing the discharge give me a brace to wear, too bad it is way too small. She then said well it is Saturday night, not too much we are going to do on a weekend. It was a useless 2 hour round trip drive from Wyoming county. It seems that the rest of the hospital is much better then the er.

In 2016 I was in Wellsville, NY and experienced severe chest pains. Saw a VA Clinic. Described my pains. Staff asked if I had an appointment???? I said no, this was an emergency. I asked if there was a Nurse or Doc on duty. They said a nurse was on duty but with no appointment the nurse would not see me. They directed me to Bath, NY VA one hour away. I was stunned!!!!!! Noticed there was a Public Hospital in town and VA Staff advised VA would not pay. Went to Public Hospital and VA did pay! Staff at Public Hosp advised Bath VA would send me to Buffalo VA another 1 hour. Unreal! Thanks to the Staff at Jones Memorial Hosp. FUBAR to the Buffalo VA

I always receive excellent care at the VA hospital. EVERYONE I see there is cordial and polite, as most people in this country hold veterans in high regard. To all of the people complaining about the FREE HEALTHCARE that they are receiving at the VA, maybe you should start MAKING APPOINTMENTS rather than just coming in to the ER and expecting every damn doctor to drop everything just to see you over a little chest pain. Its a free country & youre more than welcome to go PAY a private doctor to see you if youre not satisfied...if not all of you snowflakes & sick call rangers need to shut your mouth & stop complaining

On July 11, 2016 my life was saved by the Buffalo VA. I am 46yo male. I was admitted via ambulance to the emergency room. I had developed compartment syndrome in both legs and had acute kidney failure. I was read my last rites and taken to surgery where there was a very good chance that if I did live I would not have legs. Long story short I have use of my legs and am not on dialysis anymore. Both of which were not expected. If it werent for the doctors working on me, not giving up on me and providing the best care. I am eternally grateful for the doctors, nurses, therapists, aides at the Buffalo VA

7 hour wait time for a simple consultation required to sign up for va services because the doctor didnt want to come in for the 9am apt. So I had to wait until 3:45 for him to arrive, didnt get into until 4:15 as he took others before me, and damned near missed the last bus back to Batavia. Add to this I didnt have a cell phone or a penny to my name at the time and Id have been stranded in buffalo over night with no way out.

A VA office that lets a phone ring off the hook when it is during business hours needs to be closed. It is also a testimonial of the supervisors who are unqualified to work for the VA. What a disgrace for the office on Elmwood. Read the other comments posted and you will have to wonder why their phone number is even listed.

Staff are usually quite pleasant and do everything they can to help you. There are usually problems with the system, but it is the VA. They are grossly understaffed because they are underfunded. Much better than most of the VAs that I have been to.

Ive been currently served by Dr. Bhattachatyya in the Podiatry Department. I have Neuropathy and a tumor in my foot that was terribly infected. Under his dedicated service and dedication it is slowly healing. Thank you very much Dr. B.

Had colonoscopy performed on Tuesday, July 26th. From check-in to check-out, I found each and every member of the Endoscopy Team extremely professional. Even had a follow-up phone call yesterday. They deserve a five star rating.

I always receive great care here. I get in fast and my needs are met. The staff are friendly and professional. If you are a veteran enroll today and see the difference in care from the private sector.
