I brought my Pibble to see Dr. Mathes on the recommendation of a friend who heard about my dissatisfaction at another office. From the first phone call to the greeting we received upon arrival, we and our dog were treated with courtesy and compassion. Thats not something you find much of these days and it was worth the trip out from Rochester. We went specifically because our dog was displaying symptoms of either ACL or dysplasia. The doctor had me put my Pit Bull, who is very suspicious of strangers and just getting her nails clipped is an experience, into a hug-hold while he got down on the floor behind her. He did some chiropractic work on her lower back, beginning with a sort of bumpy-roller gadget with magnets in it. For the first 30 seconds or so, I was sure that this was going to end with her bursting out of my arms. Then she actually began to relax and sink into my lap. If you only knew my dog....I was amazed. Especially when he got out the Activator, which clicks pretty loudly, and proceeded to adjust her back with it. She only tensed up a little at first and then settled back into my lap and heaved a big sigh. Based on my dogs behavior during and after the treatment I am sure going to keep bringing her to see them. They showed a genuine interest in my rescue dog and I was super impressed with them.

Dr. Mathes and his staff are some of the most kind, caring, open-minded people in the animal industry around here. You do not find many integrative vets outside of big cities, so this place is a little diamond in the rough. I have been bringing my animals to Dr. Mathes for over a year now, and I will never go anywhere else. The girls at the front desk are always so sweet and actually care about your animals, and Dr. Mathes is so gentle with them. Dr. Mathes doesnt push vaccines, and he educates his clients instead of using scare tactics like most vets. He is open to many different forms of treatment, and does not pressure owners, but instead offers simple, holistic procedures to help your animal on the road to recovery and overall good health. Dr. Mathes is a master of acupuncture and chiropractic work on animals big and small. He is educated about carnivorous diets and doesnt have the typical Science Diet crap for sale in his waiting room. He advocates for overall health of your pet. I recommend Dr. Mathes to all my friends and family! Worth the drive from Rochester.

I have been very happy with Pumpkin Hill Vet Clinic! It is very difficult to find a vet who is comfortable and knowledgeable with a holistic approach in animal care, and is supportive of alternative treatment options. At first, I intended to use Dr Mathes just for serious issues because of the drive from Rochester, but after our first visit, I switched all of my pets to Pumpkin Hill full time. Dr Mathes takes the time to help the animal feel comfortable before trying to examine them, and he caught a heart condition in one of my dogs that had been missed at his physical with our former vet just weeks earlier. It is well worth the drive to get there for the level of care my animals receive at Pumpkin Hill! We never feel rushed or pressured to try treatments we are not comfortable with. And, the prices there are extremely reasonable. As a dog professional, I have referred numerous clients to Dr Mathes for problems with their dogs, and hear rave reviews every time!

I love Pumpkin Hill ! Dr. Mathes and his wonderful, pleasant staff are a welcome change from the harried, rush you through clinics that seem to exist in Rochester...thats why I go to Bergen... Dr. Mathes help my dog Edith to walk again with acupuncture, which helped extend her life, and be almost painfree...He was there when I put her to sleep. Dr. Mathes is now helping my beloved 12 year old dog Sadie...who he is helping to reduce her joint pain and stiffness. I love the office...it has always been clean...smells great and is just a welcoming atmosphere...I also love the fact that Dr. Mathes makes farm calls (sometimes you may find a goat or 2 in the waiting room!) and helps out many shelters... Many of my neigbors make the scenic drive out to Pumpkin Hill now....try it... you wont be disappointed .... Sadie Cs mom

It has been about two months since I had Rich evaluate and treat my little furry Pomeranian buddy that is going on 14 years of age. He had some arthritic pain and a hunched spine that I have been dealing with for a few years with my local vet in Delaware with no improvement. I am from Byron and have known Rich for years so on my last trip up I brought my dog after contacting Rich to take a look at him,I now have a new dog, well the same dog but what a difference the right vet can make, Rich truly cares about the animal and what is best for it. My dog runs like a pup and no longer is hunch back. Rich, you and your staff are the best !!!!! I cant thank you enough, Max is doing great. Lee Fuller Wilmington DE.

The entire staff is professional, yet warm and personable. You can get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, and if its urgent, they find a way. Once there, Dr. Mathes and his technicians are very loving and compassionate. My dog adores them all. Dr. Mathes approaches each case with the individuality it deserves. He does not recommend treatments to "line his pockets" and will suggest holistic approaches to supplement your pets needs. Pumpkin Hill is a long way from my home, and I dont care. The forty minute drive one way is well worth the trip. You wont go wrong if you are looking for a vet by choosing this place!

I have used this place for years on my horses and I love them! I have a very nervous Arabian who I cannot give shots too. Mathis is the only one who can walk in calmly give her shots and walk out before she even knew what happened. Another time my older mare was very lame and we couldnt figure out why. We called Mathis and he said he was going to start at the hoof and work his way up to check everything. Within the first few minutes we discovered a splinter in her coronet band that was infected! I had other vets look at my horse and they never found the problem.

Dr. Mathes is next to god! He is extremely knowledgable & compassionate! He is 100% there with you & your loved ones explaining everything he is doing which really helped MY DOG, she is a service dog & extremely smart it helped her a lot when he spoke to her & showed her what he was going to do, it kept her calm, it was our 1st time w/ him, she was in a lot of pain & scared (she is not a people person), but she did wonderful w/ him...PLEASE move to Hawaii we need you there! Thank you ever so much for everything!

Cannot say enough good things about this vet! Our 7 year old Boxer was having several balance/head tilt issues. Our old vet didnt take any action and wanted to do imaging. First visit at Pumpkin Hill and we found a new treatment path. No lie - we had a 90 percent improvement with 24 hours for our guy. He loved the vet, was relaxed, and we had a great vibe. Take your pet here!
