During the month of May, 2008, we came home late one afternoon to find our dog, Tai, having what appeared to be a seizure, unable to move on her own, and panting as though exhausted. We called Newburgh Veterinary Clinic, and they very kindly agreed to stay a little late to allow us to bring her in immediately. The immediately brought us into an examination room, but before the exam could take place, Tai died. They brought her into the back and resuscitated her. Unfortunately despite the best efforts of the doctors (who were very caring, attentive, and in our opinion, did everything they could), it was too late. The level of responsiveness and care was outstanding... but thats only one aspect of our visit. The rest of the story is ugly. Between the time we had arrived at home, and the time we left with Tai, was perhaps five minutes at the most. We did not expect to be making a visit to the Vet, and once again, we are grateful for their accommodation. After making the necessary arrangements for cremation and thanking them again, we went to the front desk to arrange for payment. Since we had literally run out of the house, we did not have our checkbook with us. I said that we could run home, get a check, and pay the bill. The office manager stated to us that this was not acceptable since we were not established customers, and asked if we had a credit card. We replied that dont use credit cards. She escorted us to an empty room at the end of the hall, told us to wait there and she would be right back. I asked if there was a problem, and she said “Yes. Its you,” and she left the room. My wife and I looked at each other wondering what the heck was going on. While in the room, I looked at the bill, which obviously was packed with charges that were not legitimate. They had charged me for the attempt to resuscitate my dog, and then charged me to euthanize a dog that was already dead. Now, they had stuck us in a room as if we were prisoners until she could check with someone as to whether to let me go get a check to pay. She returned a half hour later, and said that one of us could leave to get the check, buit the other had to remain as “collateral.” As I stated, I have no problem with the medical care, but I have an ENORMOUS problem with a bill packed with false charges, and where they hold people hostage instead of extending courtesy. I went home, got a check, and paid the bill, phony charges and all. There are many other competent vets in the area. I recommend that you go ANYWHERE else, again, not because of the care, but because of the rude and unnecessary practices that seem to be the policy at this office.

Newburgh Veterinary Hosp is a well run, organized, competent, competitively priced animal care facility but above all it is a kind, compassionate place for both my animals and myself! I always judge a business (medical and non-medical) by their front end staff before I consider anything else. The front desk staff @ Newburgh Vet treat their clients like friends or family. They listen and try to solve whatever issue is brought to them whether it is about an appointment or just a general question. What a pleasure it is to be able to call or walk in, state my reason for contact and walk away smiling or laughing. An example of the level of care and respect we get from these folks: We have a cat that has been labeled "aggressive". In order for her to be seen by a vet she has to be sedated. Add this to the regular vet visit and the bill is quite high. One of the front end staff, Mike, came up with an idea to satisfy the needs of the cat, the vet and me. All 3 parties were taken care of with minimal issues & my cats health was priority. It is this forward thinking, thinking outside the box and "plan b" attitude that pushes Newburgh Vet staff ahead of the rest. Another example of feeling taken care of is when I work with Kristen. I call, usually in some kind of rush, and she quickly & efficiently takes care of my reason for the call and we end up giggling or laughing as I either hang up or leave the hospital. Kristen, too, is good at the plan b attitude and good at making sure the animal, owner & vets needs are all taken care of. Those are only 2 examples and with only 2 staff members. But my positive experience is for and with all the front desk staff that have taken care of our pets over the years. Beyond the desk my pets and I have been seen by the best Vets and Techs! Once in a room, they come in and my animal & I are made to feel as though we are priority one! They are kind and soothing as they treat my pets. Newburgh Veterinary Hospital does something else that is wonderful in my eyes: they have a "low cost spay/neuter" program for strays! In my opinion that is proof that they are a kind, caring, compassionate animal facility!

11/29/2016 We consider our little "fur Babies" part of our family. As such they deserve the very best of care and having a good grip on reality, we expect there to be a price for this care. The first thing we noticed was how clean everything was with no odor at all. The best any consumer can expect from a caregiver is quality, professional care but the level of that care is a variable and unfortunately but expectedly more comprehensive, thorough care comes at a slightly higher cost. We live on Long Island so we are accustomed to very high pricing. The need for surgery was first diagnosed by Dr. Vic via an instant X-Ray that did not require our Yorkie to undergo anesthesia. Small dogs do not tolerate anesthesia well. He then introduced us to Dr. John Banks an accomplished Veterinarian Orthopedic Surgeon and thoroughly explained the procedure to repair her Patella Luxation, replace cartilage and tendon. Pricing for the procedures was well below what we had heard from friends that had their dogs knee repaired on Long Island. The procedure was performed shortly thereafter and although we have a way to go, we are extremely satisfied with the results. Having run a small company I must say the staff is exemplary and couldnt have been more accommodating or done more to ease us through this. Unlike dogs, I find humans tend to get callous in their everyday routine. They seem to forget that although routine to them its brand new to the patients family. Instead what we felt was, patients, compassion and real concern for both us and our fur-baby. They have gained our trust and we are so glad we found this organization. The doctors are very caring. My 2 pets are patients. My oldest one, Millie needed surgery since she had a tumor closed to her rectum and it was urgent. Her doctor was very understanding of our pain. She sat down with us and explained Millies situation in detail. I was traveling within a week and we wanted to wait for the surgery. We left the clinic with Millie. The doctor gave up a packet of gauss and an antiseptic to keep it clean. We came back home. On that same date the doctor called us herself and said that she was afraid that Millie was not going to make it if we waited. She needed to warn us of the deadly consequences if we did not take care of business before traveling. Millie was bleeding from the tumor. It was horrible. We went back to the clinic the next day. Millie had a successful surgery. This was a year ago and Millie is fine. I had returned with her to the clinic a few times since she has a condition that is affecting her pituitary on her brain hence she needs blood test every 3 months to check her levels. She is on medication for life. In addition, today I took her back pretty sick. She needed to be hospitalized. I did not have the kind of money they were asking. I was ready to leave heart broken, but the doctor kept Millie have her hydrated, performed x-rays, took blood, gave her a few shots of antibiotics and gave me 3 med to take home. I paid a quarter of what it would take to leave her there. I am very grateful because the doctor could have send us home not caring about Millie since we could not hospitalized her. Instead, she took care of her on the spot. I highly recommended Newburgh Veterinary Hospital.
