My dog was on deaths door when we brought him in directly after a visit with our vet. He had air in his chest cavity. He had to be wheeled into the building on a stretcher because he wouldnt walk. They tapped his chest (put a syringe in) to release the excess air and put him on oxygen. Without doing any test whatsoever, not even an X-ray, they diagnosed him with having Tension Pneumothorax. They wanted $7k just to do the examination to confirm the diagnosis and depending on the results of that diagnosis, he would then need a surgery that would bring the bill up to $19k. All of this was gone over IN DETAIL with many treatment plans listing every single charge. The bill was heavily padded and in many cases things were charged twice. They were more concerned with the financials than the actual treatment. Every time I had a question regarding the treatment options, prognosis, alternate treatments, etc. Dr. Altwood had to go look up the information to give me. Rather than coming up with alternative treatment ideas, she only came up with alternative billing options. That tells me where their priority is. We discharged our dog from their care and am now seeking out a second opinion. He is doing much much better and Ive researched that these conditions in many times heal on their own. We were left with an almost $600 bill (AFTER a 10% law enforcement discount) and they did nothing except watch him, tap his chest once, and administer O2. But, they did spend HOURS trying convince us to spend $7k just to diagnose him. Given the nature of their priorities of financials above actually treating their patients, Im surprised the bill didnt include a service charge to wheel my dog in the building, as they seem to nickel and dime for EVERYTHING!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO PAY OUT OF YOUR NOSE BEFORE YOU GET ANY KIND OF REAL ANSWERS TO WARRANT TREATMENT!!!!!!!

This is probably one of the worst veterinary hospitals on Long Island. My 8 month old puppy, who was hours away from dying from a bacterial infection in her intestines, was turned away from treatment because I had my grandmothers credit card to pay for the vet bill and she was not present. Not only would they not accept that payment, they proceeded to send me a bill in the mail for $134 for an emergency room fee when they never even treated my pet. They were not welcoming, they did not feel that my dog having bloody bowel movements was a priority. They proceeded to have me sit in the waiting room for about 20 minutes while my dog is vomitting and having bloody bowel movements. I brought her to another animal hospital who rushed her in and treated her, no waiting to fill out paper work, no turning away payment. This place wanted to go over all payments BEFORE they even treated my dog. The other animal hospital I went to did not even mention anything about payments (they did provide an estimate while they were already treating my puppy so I was not left in the dark) until after my dog was treated and in the clear from dying. This animal hospital is by far one of the worst on Long Island. I have had my fair share of unwelcoming vets and hospitals on this island, but this one is BY FAR THE WORST. I would rather drive hours away to have my animals treated then EVER take them back to this place.

THE MOST OVERPRICED FACILITY ON LONG ISLAND.... I took my dog here for a quote on torn ACL surgery. Right off the bat was a $200+ consult fee. I didnt need a consult, I already had a diagnosis from my vet and a radiologist, I just needed to know the price. After explaining the surgical options (of which I was already well aware, and had researched at length), I chose to go with the less invasive extracapsular repair procedure. They suggested the much more invasive and expensive TPLO. I declined that procedure in favor of one I felt more comfortable with. They brought me an itemized estimate that not only included many duplicate and unnecessarily padded charges (like pre-surgical bloodwork which I had already had done and provided to the doctor and $96 for a bag of glucosime chewies), but it also included an additional $3000 above EVERY OTHER QUOTE I GOT... $3000 more for the SAME surgery that I got 4 other quotes on.. lets recap.. I got 5 surgical quotes for an extracapsular repair, 4 of those quotes came in between $1000 and $2000, east end came in at just under $5000... I was not looking for the "cheapest option", I have no problem spending money to help my fur baby, but it was very clear to me that their ONLY concern was getting as much money from me as possible. If you are looking into surgery, I strongly recommend you take your fur baby and your business elsewhere.

Brought my cat in a few nights ago. She had been missing for two nights and came home with a gash, oozing puss on her bottom. We brought here there right away. They wanted 1,500 to do "major surgery" we asked if she could make it to our primary vet in a few hours (it being 3am) they said they can do what they can to get her there. THEY WOULDNT DO ANYTHING UNTIL WE PAID. It was ridiculous. My cat was in a separate room and when we finally saw her again I wasnt even sure if they did anything but tranquilizer her. We ended up spending around 500$, with the thought we will bring her to our vet when they open in the morning. My cat died the next morning. I was up all night with her making sure she was still okay. The vets never gave us any indication that she would not make it to my vet. DO NOT GO TO THIS ANIMAL HOSPITAL. THEY ARE HORRIBLE MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE. They dont care about your pet, if you dont sign the first itiemized bill they throw in front of you they will take their time coming back with a new "estimate", they dont help your animal until they are paid in full. I lost my cat because of them.

I have taken my animals both dogs and cats to East End for over 12 years. I have nothing but praise for them...especially Dr. Robin Jayger and the entire staff. Over the years I come come to trust and rely on them. Having a variety of animals, emergency do occur. I find that they explain the situation and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Since they are a diagnostic center, they are though and go above and beyond to give the right information for good decision making. I am most impressed with the fact that if my pet has a chronic condition, such as high blood sugar disorder, and if I specifically ask for them to assist with follow up they will. Now the charges are not for the weak at heart, but I believe they are true professionals, with expertise far beyond a general vet. Even in the worst of circumstances, when a beloved pet must be euthanized.it is performed with dignity and with you holding your pet. In my opinion, although I am not rich, they are worth my piece of mind. I have nothing but praise and respect for the whole group and I am not an easy customer to please.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE- They experiment on your animal. Dr. Parente is young and doesnt have enough experience. They seem real nice at first but if they know that they cant keep milking you for all that youve got they will kill your animal and give you a bill that will send you over the edge. They killed my dog. He didnt have to die. Do yourself a favor. GO to the place in West Islip. The doctors are a thousand times better. NICE doesnt and wont help save your animals life. Please dont trust your animal in the care of this hospital. I guess thats why they need to offer grooming, rehab and day care because they are horrible at practicing medicine. Actually thats what they do they PRACTICE medicine. ON YOU AND YOUR PET!!!! Dr. Parente is not experienced enough. He sucks you in with his bull crap kindness. Can you imagine that he sent a report to my deceased pets primary vet that had so many errors and wrong information in it, it made us wonder if he knows/knew what the hell he is/was doing? Dont end up like me regretting that I brought my poor baby to this hospital.
