My name is Shawna Troia and I have 2 children under the care of Dr. Merlino and she is by far the best Pediatric dentist I have taken my children to. My son who is 8 was so scared of even the word dentist because of prior bad experiences of another dentist but when he met with Dr. Merlino for his very first visit he was a totally different child from that day on he actually likes going to the dentist. Dr. Merlino fixed all the damage from his previous dentist and I am so pleased with her work. I also just took my 6 year old daughter recently to have her teeth done and she made her feel the same way she did for my son. I cannot believe what I read on here about her doing it for the money because that is all a lie. The office tells you what they will be doind before hand so you know. The whole office staff are just such a pleasure from the second you go in until the second you are leaving. I have told all my friends about Dr. Merlino and hopefully they will go to her because she is a dentist but she is also a mother so she knows what these children are thinking and feeling. I will also like to add how I love how she dosent just like to drug the children so they sleep for the whole visit like our previous dentist had done with our son, she talks to them and shows them each tool she is using them and even has a cute name so the kids dont get scared. I really cant say enough good things about Dr. Merlino and her staff, so if you read the other review and make your decision based on that then let me tell you that you will miss out on a great dentist.

My three year old daughter need extensive work on her teeth. Include two root canals to her front teeth and caps. Dr. Merlino took us in right away. This was a huge deal for us as Dr. Merlino was the 4th dentist we had taken our daugther to see and my daughter had just gone through a tramatic experience with drilling to her teeth while she was awake and was now deathly afraid to even enter a dental office let alone sit in the chair. Dr. Merino detailed a plan to fix her teeth that was immediate and nontramatic, which is what we had been searching for. She did an excellent job and minimized the anxiety involved in the procedure. We continue to drive the extra distance to see her for our 6 month checkups because we value her professional option. She is great with my daughter and she did excellent work. My daughter has beautiful, pain-free teeth for the past two years and I owe that to Dr. Merlino. I high recommend her services for anyone looking for a pediatric dentist. Thank you Dr. Merlino!

PROFIT-DRIVEN, DIFFICULT-TO-DEAL-WITH DENTIST PUSHING UNNECESSARY SERVICES. Shes got an attitude problem and a chip on her shoulder apparently, being a difficult person to deal with, speaks to children and parents with a bad attitude, unless of course $$$ is involved. Do you like pushy sales tactics? How about being yelled at when declining to x-ray preschool children with no signs of having to do so? How about being pressured and questioned at every visit after already declining? Phyllis Merlino loves to yell at parents! She wants you to do everything she says without question and has a self-given right to yell at you! She is RUDE, PUSHY, DEMEANING, and $$$-FOCUSED. Wake up Ms. Merlino, its 2017 and there are NUMEROUS Pediatric Dentist choices on Staten Island. These 5-star reviews smell of not being genuine after youve dealt with her.

I recommend this pediatric dentist. After asking multiple parents for a recommended pediatric dentist in Staten Island, I was given the most positive personal reviews regarding Dr. Merlino. Prior to my daughters appointment, I asked a family member in the dental field what I should expect during my 4 year old childs first visit to the dentist. My family member warned me my daughter would probably require a full set of x-rays (and that this is not a money maker for the dentist...but part of the first visit based on age..standard practice). Upon my daughters visit, she received a thorough cleaning, evaluation (with explanation to my child and myself), and a full set of x-rays to assess dental health. My daughter cant wait for her next dental check-up!

Im a physician who has entrusted Dr. Merlino to treat my daughter for over four years. My 10-yr-old Francesca has above-average anxiety when visiting ANY clinician. My wife and I carefully researched Dr. Merlinos practice before entrusting her and her staff with my daughters dental care. Dr. Merlino is a competent doctor with extraordinary patience. She has turned my daughter from a nail-biting squirmer into a child who actually LOOKS FORWARD to her visits with the doctor. Since my own practice focuses almost exclusively on childrens eyecare, I have first hand knowledge how difficult it can be to evaluate, diagnose and treat an anxious little one. Dr. Merlino has the skills necessary to accomplish this in spades.

When my daughter was 3 years old she required extensive dental treatment on her front teeth. We were referred from our family dentist to Dr. Merlno because she was a pediatric specialist. Dr. Merlino recommended that she be sedated with the Dental anesthesiologist. Our experience could not have been better, especially under the circumstance of nervousness regarding the sedation. Dr. Merlino and her staff not only eased our every fear their comforting demeanor helped us tremendously during this very difficult time. Our daughter did very well and given the circumstances our overall experience was pleasant. You will not be disappointed in choosing this compassionate and highly trained professional for your child.

We are the parents of a 13yr. old autistic boy named Anthony, who has been a patient of Dr.Merlino for the past 7 yrs. We have always had a pleasant experience at Dr. Merlinos office. Anthony is very big for his age and sometimes he is hard to handle, but Dr.Merlino has a way of making Anthony feel very relaxed and comfortable. She is very kind, patient and gentle with him , which is why he is so at ease with her. She also has an excellent support staff who share the same positive qualities as the doctor. I strongly recommend anyone bringing their child to Dr.Merlino.

Dr. Merlino is a wonderful dentist. She is very professional and knowledgeable about the most current dental procedures. My daughter (who is now 13 years old) has been going to her since she was 2. She explains everything thoroughly to both patient and parent.
