I see many specialists in the private sector, and transitioned to seeing doctors at the V.A. Northwest facility in Surprise, Az. Dr. Koss is my primary physician. My experiences have always been very positive. Actually, better than my experiences with the doctors in the private sector. My wait times to get in to the doctor have been never more than 15-20 minutes, times to get in to the Lab for bloodwork have been the same. Dr Koss has always been very attentive and pleasant. The men working the reception desk windows are not warm and fuzzy customer service oriented. Theyre all business, but then this is a facility for Veterans, so no one should get butt hurt if theyre treated with Military attitudes. I actually welcomed the efficiency and Military atmosphere. It felt good to get back to dealing with people who approach tasks in a military manner. Waiting 4-6 weeks for an appointment to see a doctor, or having to drive downtown for certain specialties, is no different than if I was to see a doctor in the private sector. Some of my private specialists have been called in October for an appointment and couldnt get me in until February. There was even a 2 month wait to get in to see my pain management neurologist when I was in need of urgent assistance. Every doctors receptionist says the same thing, "If its a life threatening emergency, hang up and dial 9-1-1", or they say, if youre in pain, go to the E.R, so the V.A. hasnt been that bad at all for me. Im happy with the care, so far.

I know that the Phoenix, VA is understaffed, but treating my dad for the past 20+ years was good, and they did what they could. The Northwest VA clinic on the other hand, is dangerous. I can only speak of one nurse and one doctor, who ignorantly refused to refill meds when I ran out inadvertently while visiting here. Told them its for off label use. They refused and literally walked me out of the building. After explaining my story to the advocacey center at the main phoenix VA. I was told that both the doctor and nurse would receive extra and remedial education to ensure it does not happen again. Bottom line, their seems to be some incompetent medical care here, im sure not all docs, staff, and nurses are, but the few Ive met are dangerous, the majority are awesome, and former vets and I hear even volunteers, but not long ago I was refused the flu vacc by a nurse a real RN and the other RN over heard and warned her of refusing, she continued and the other nurse had to administer the shot and replace her. This is the type of medical personel I have had the unplesant experience with, and anti-vaccer in the medical field as a nurse I think is rediculous that vets or anyone have to put up with this type of unsafe behavior.

I thought I would never have a bad word to say about the VA medical centers until I got assigned to the NW clinic in Surprise, AZ. When you call because you need to talk to someone about something wrong it seems you never get called back. And when they do it is usually someone that just says Im sorry but a nurse will be calling you Which most of the time never happens. I have had an ear problem now for 10 days and needed to get it checked out. Also you cant find out any information on any of the Doctors that work there. They told me that my team Doctor was a Dr Nhra Lein and I tried to find out any information on her and there is none. Why isnt it possible to get any background information on a Doctor there. It makes me think of the doctor in Ft Hood Texas. I will now see how far up the chain of command I can go to get this matter resolved

Horrible!!! The entire staff for pack team 8 should be ashamed!! My father has been seeing NP Carter for several years. Had bloodwork as recent as 3 mos ago. My father was recently taken to hospital from a fall and to our surprise, they informed him he has severe cirrhosis. Something NEVER addressed by his dr at this clinic!!! NEVER addressed. I am appalled!! And to make matters worse his fall created compression fractures in the spine and again NP Carter & her staff FAILED in 4 days to authorize him to see a recommended orthopedic surgeon, so here I sit at the orthopedic dig eons office spending $100s in care while they sit at the VA clinic twiddling their thumbs. Way to go!!! So honored you give your veterans "the best care possible", meaning, you dont get quality or timely care!

Moved to Az for lung condition and had to change my primary care to VA Surprise. The primary care doctor refused to refer me to Pulmonary Specialist even though I have a severe pulmonary condition and now have acute pneumonia. I had to contact my Pulmonary Specialist at VA in my previous state to intervene. But still wont get a referral until 3 months and then once the referral is put in, who knows how long it will be before I get an appointment. I asked to see another primary care doctor. Guess what! It will take 3 months before the request is reviewed and then a decision will be made as to whether I can change doctors. This is what national healthcare will look like.

So I see four reviews here. One is a five star with no comment, while the other three are horror stories. Everyone Ive run into at the clinic was awesome. If I had a complaint, its that one of the doctors I saw on a preliminary basis discussed politics with me, and our politics dont match. But then, my politics dont match the majority of the city I live in (Surprise). As to the care Ive received, theyve been great. I get in to see the doctor in a reasonable time. If I have an emergency, they deal with it. They are just what I want in a medical clinic. As a bonus that probably wont apply to many, theyre only a mile away from my home. So glad Im going here.

I have had a problem that has been going on for months now. I set up an appointment and when it came time they called me to tell me its been cancelled and the next available appointment wasnt until next month. I called them and ask when exactly is my next appointment and they forgot to tell me that that appointment has been cancelled. So the I have to wait until next month just to see a doctor. Im getting pushed around and I do like it. I can never see a doctor at this clinic. my problem is starting to effect my work and my daily activities.

It took a month to schedule an appointment. I got a call the day of my appointment saying the doctor was "sick" and had to reschedule. On the day of the rescheduled appointment, I found out the doctor had to cancel again. I think this is the new VA way of making it look like they are taking care of business, but they really are not. Previously patients would wait for months for an appointment. Now they can SAY that patients wait a shorter time, but what they dont say is that appointments (in my experience) get cancelled routinely.
