All the other reviews are out of date, written during the Great Recession when LA county was dealing with huge budget cuts and short staffing. Trust me, the administrators here really do care about every patients satisfaction. All they care about is making things safer, better, easier, more convenient for patients. The way county was run 5 years ago is different than how its run now. True, a county worker has job security for life, but there is a lot of emphasis on training the workers right. Ive been to the doctors and pharmacy at El Monte CHC several times and Ill list out the pros and cons. Pros: Staff cares about patient safety as #1, patient care #2, staff performance#3. Not driven to make money like other doctors offices and retail chain pharmacies. Always some type of improvement going on. They got a new computer system, the pharmacy got remodeled. The workers there are younger, friendly, careful, and attentive. The pharmacy works with the doctors offices so theres never a problem with the pharmacy not being able to get a hold of my doctor if theres a problem or if I forget what the doctor told me. The pharmacy always helps and looks it up for me. They make it right. The doctors staff one time gave me someone elses prescription and the pharmacy caught it. They needed my prescription so they assigned a pharmacy person to specifically deal with my case. Although I waited extra time in the pharmacy to get the news about my prescription, my medicine for my infection was ready under an hour. No one judges you here. Everything is real simple here and basic. I feel like I fit in, i dont have to wear a shirt and tie to see my doctor and the security guards dont stare at me like Im trying to commit a crime. I get all the time I want to talk to a pharmacist. One time they didnt have my medication and I had to go to a CVS. although its different at CVS, I waited 15 min to drop off my prescription, it was ready in 45 min. And they told me it was over $200. I asked to speak to the pharmacist to see what it was for and if I really need it. They said the pharmacist was really busy but if I wait, I could talk to him. Well I waited almost 30 min just to talk to a pharmacist about the medications. Its definitely busy at cvs just like at El Monte. But I could tell everyone is overworked at CVS and they were miserable. At El Monte, theyre not miserable and theyre never mean or rushing me or other people or each other. The pharmacy is never out of stock. I guess cause so many people take the same thing they just have lots of stuff in the back. Cons: Long wait. Its expected. Theyre not charging me any extra money for doctors visits or pharmacy prescriptions. I take 13 medications, I would hope that they take their time and review my medications to make sure everything is right and Im not getting something thats gonna hurt me. All said, The county clinic in EL Monte is better than it was 5 years ago, even an year ago its better. Just be patient, voice your concerns and thoughts to the workers in a nice way and they honestly try their best to help you. It may take time, it usually does, but they do everything they can to avoid a mistake

What are we doing here?????? Sick and hope to get help relieve our pain and suffering??? or did we all get a very cruel awaking of what un-called pain and suffering???? We were "instructed" by the admitting nurse to come back the next morning before 5:30am (building opens at 7:30am) if we are SICK and desperately need medical help. Sure, what is waiting in the dark and cold for hours outside of a building if we are able to get medical assistance right? Sure it sounds ok. So, we start our wait outside the building 5:20am and at that time there were about 20 ppl with illnesses in front of us. ok, i thought we were in luck. as 15 mins passed, buses and cars build the waiting line behind us to about another 60+ (almost around the building) ok, this time we were really happy to be where we were standing, coming before day break was a GOOOOD Idea. Keep in mind, everyone who was there (and there every morning waiting for that 7:30am to open) needs medical attention some worst some mild. now, 7:30am the doors open. security came through the doors and instruct us how to proceed with getting a ticket and follow the leading nurse inside a waiting room to see if we could be seen??? (humm what does that mean, waiting to be seen) so anyhow, Only the sick was admitted through that door so I had to wait outside and my Mom went in. There was at least 50+ (rough guess-ta-mate) about 2 additional hours inside that secret room, a line of ppl walked out, my mom was one of them and since she didnt speak english, i was fortunate enough to get in at the end to find out what was going on. Spoke to the man-nurse, he said they could only work on 11 ppl today so if we need to be seen by doctor come back again tomorrow at 4:30am to test our luck again!!!!!!!! WTFFFFF Unbelievable cruel and unusual punishment to "WE THE PEOPLE of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA":, never thought in a million years this was happening here in the #1 nation of the World. The leading nation of this great Earth. The example of what a perfect nation should be. Lets put it this way, these resources are available to us because somewhere somehow there are funds made by us "WE THE PEOPLE" sometimes long ago to help if and when in need. (right???) There are more than enough resources in that building to help more than 11?, 35? 45? people A DAY. People who are SICK and in pain??? who are in need to get MEDICAL treatment????? or is it? sure Ill be back tomorrow if I feel like a turkey or dinner, ... really?? who could ever guess this is what we are living in. (note: CAPS are not anger venting), its just LOOK this is whats happening and we NEED to make a change BECAUSE it is fr*eaking EMBARRASSING. How can we call ourselves a GREAT Nation if we dont match the Talk w/ the Walk. We could tirelessly be at war because other countries couldnt resolved their problem with one another and then call ourselves "Hero".. years of compromising our safety, burning our finances to the ground and so explain WHY cant we devote a bit of genuine effort to dedicate and help "WE THE PEOPLE"????

This place is a living hell. The people who work there are nasty and have no compassion whatsoever. The place is old and run down, and you are treated like a prisoner. I came as a walkin and we were given numbers and herded into a room and told not to leave, because we wouldnt be able to get back in. I arrived before 7:30am (when they open), like instructed, and I got #47. Only patients were allowed to be in the walkin area. A family member of mine was not allowed back, and when they tried to sneak back to me, they said they would call security. In the end, they wouldnt even treat me because I could not prove my address. They treat homeless people, mind you, but for some reason they insisted I had to prove my current address. And another thing, when you arrive as a walkin, they will only treat ONE medical condition, and even a prescription qualifies. Total waste of time, and not worth it, no matter how sick you are, and even if you do get treatment for free. Intolerable treatment of human beings. WILL NEVER GO BACK. Please, save yourself the misery and go somewhere else; anywhere else.
